The Academy of Business Management and Culinary Arts focuses on preparing students with the technical skills they need to apply to future careers and everyday situations.We offer paid and unpaid internships, job shadowing, mentoring and partnerships through the National Academy of Finance and Careers through Culinary Programs.

This program will strengthen their home language as they continue to improve their academic English skills. Social studies and science courses are taught using both Chinese and English, and students take Chinese as a Native Language courses in addition to their English as a New Language classes. Please Note this is a General Education Bilingual Program for ELL students.

The STEM Academy provides students with a rigorous college preparatory curriculum with opportunities to explore the disciplines of computer science, engineering, and robotics and to take AP and college level courses. Courses will prepare students for colleges, career paths, and more. With significant opportunities for hands-on learning, students will gain fluency with the design process. All applicants are interviewed; information available at STEM@johndeweyhighschool.org

The Pre-Med Academy equips students with knowledge and competencies that allow them to excel in college pre-med and health professional programs. Students experience an immersive clinical internship, study anatomy, medical technology, medical ethics, and take AP and college-level courses. Students graduate with certifications in CPR, first aid, and others accredited by the American Red Cross. All applicants are interviewed; information available at premed@johndeweyhighschool.org

This is an opportunity for students interested in law and exploring the struggle for justice and human rights. Program electives focus on the criminal justice system. Through our affiliation with the Justice Resource Center and Facing History & Ourselves, students visit criminal and juvenile court, work with lawyers and politicians, and participate in moot court, mock trial, and Model UN competitions. Students will also have the opportunity to apply to a variety of law related internships.

Students will experience a unique journey in Visual, Theater, or Dance Arts. Students will be introduced to learning the basics of each field and advance by learning new techniques and skills in their focus area culminating in an Endorsed Diploma. Theater Arts students will participate in acting, scene study, and play writing. Dance will include traditional and modern dance, jazz, interpretive dance, and choreography. Visual Arts classes include studio art, ceramics, and photography.

CTE Curriculum provides a pathway for students to transition from high school to post secondary opportunities in health careers. Students will engage in hands-on experience by providing patients with health care needs in various medical settings through clinical internship programs.

Introduction to design and coding for the web. Students have opportunities for paid internships, instruction directly from industry professionals and access to college level coursework.

This screened program offers web, digital media and college-credit bearing coursework. 9th grade students learn video game engineering and web design in addition to the traditional liberal arts. Students continue their computer science classes and take college-level courses. Upperclassmen can continue their CS training at tech company offices such as Google, Major League Baseball and Disney. Students also participate in internships facilitated by our partner St. Nicks Alliance.

Students develop English and Spanish language skills through courses taught by native speakers and a technology-based interdisciplinary program emphasizing bilingual speaking and writing.

NYS CTE Certified Nursing Assistant program that includes supervised clinical rotations with training from registered nurses and a developing Sports Medicine program with courses such as Exercise Physiology, Human Anatomy, and Nutrition. Bard High School Early College Queens (BHSEC Queens) was founded on the belief that many students are ready to do serious college work at age 16. Bard College, in partnership with the New York City Department of Education, has created an innovative program that enables high school students to move, in four years, from ninth grade through the first two years of college. In partnership with Rosie's Theater Kids students receive pre-conservatory training in vocal music, dance, and acting. All first and second year students participate in an annual musical theater concert. All third and fourth year students perform in an end-of-year main-stage musical production. In partnership with the professional theater company Waterwell, and built around the core values: engagement and empathy. Students take daily conservatory-style class in acting, movement/devising, voice & speech and theater studies. Each applicant will be required to act, sing and dance at this audition. Please prepare the following: Acting: Present a one-minute memorized monologue (comedic or dramatic) from a published play. Singing: Present 32 bars of a memorized Broadway song (age-appropriate) - an accompanist will be provided, so bring sheet music in the appropriate key. Dancing: Be prepared to learn a short theater dance combination - please wear clothing that allows for freedom of movement, as well as jazz shoes or sneakers.

Prepare two contrasting monologues (one minute each), for example: dramatic/comedic, classical/contemporary, published/original, or theater/film. Choose characters close to your age or life experience, decide who your characters are talking to and why, and completely memorize both pieces.

Present a memorized classical music selection. The song must demonstrate vocal skills and ability. Classical selections can be found in either 'Twenty-Four Italian Songs and Arias' or 'The Art Song Anthology.' Do not present rock, pop, gospel, country, musical theater, Disney or contemporary music. You must bring sheet music for your song to the audition; an accompanist will be provided. Vocal musicianship (the ability to sing scales, sing a cappella, etc.) will be tested at the audition.

Participate in an Ailey School master class that includes ballet, modern, and jazz techniques. Applicants must wear ballet shoes and fitted black dance attire. No prepared solo is necessary.

UAM students are able to solve problems, access, analyze, and evaluate information and messages from a range of media, make a decision, and express their thinking verbally and in writing. The Academy of Urban Planning and Engineering

We are small high school in Brooklyn creating communities of learners in Urban Planning, Engineering and Advanced learning. We are a school community that provides resources and opportunities for our students to build, debate, compete and excel in exams to prepare for college and career. We believe in the whole child and support our students with mentoring programs that build 21st century skills and beyond. 9th graders are programmed for Engineering, Algebra and African Drumming in their 1st year along with Extended Learning Time to prepare for Regents and AP exams.
