<p> High school juniors and seniors in the Learn & Earn (formerly the In-School Youth Program) program will receive assistance in career exploration, college readiness, and high school graduation. </p>

<p> Learn & Earn helps high schoolers succeed in school while preparing them for college and their careers. </p>

<ul> <li>Must have a Social Security Number </li> <li>Must be able to work legally in US </li> <li>Enroll between September 1 - 30 </li> </ul>

<p> You may be eligible if you can answer yes to these questions: </p> <ul> <li>Are you between 16 - 21 years old? </li> <li>Are you a NYC high school junior or senior? </li> <li>Do you meet <strong>one</strong> of these requirements? <ul> <li>Do you receive cash assistance or SNAP, or are you a member of a household that receives cash assistance or SNAP? </li> <li>Are you homeless? </li> <li>Are you a foster care youth? </li> <li>If you do not meet one of these requirements, ISY will look at your income to see if you are eligible. Tax benefit for senior homeowners

<p> SCHE gives property tax help to senior homeowners. It lowers the taxes of seniors who own one to three homes, condos, or coop apartments. </p>

<p> Seniors can get a partial exemption from property taxes.<br> </p>

<p> To be eligible for SCHE, you should be able to answer yes to all of these questions: </p> <ul> <li>Are all owners 65 years of age or older, OR is the property owned by spouse or sibling, who doesn't need to meet this age requirement? </li> <li>Is the property your primary residence? </li> <li>Is the combined income for all owners less than or equal to $58,399? <ul> <li>Income does NOT include SSI or Cash Assistance benefits. </li> </ul> </li> </ul>

<p> EITC can provide a tax refund of up to $8,463 (combined federal, state and City). The credit is meant for low- to moderate-income working individuals and couples, particularly those with children. You claim the credit when you file your taxes. </p>

<p> HEAP helps eligible households meet their home energy needs in the winter season. The money can pay for fuel, your utility source, equipment and/or repairs. The City pays the costs either directly to the company (heating benefit and/or utility benefit) or to the household (utility benefit only). </p>

<p> HEAP can help you pay for the costs of heating your home during the winter months. </p>

Rent freeze for seniors

<p> Senior citizens can get a rent freeze through SCRIE. If their rent goes up, people with SCRIE do not have to pay the higher rent. Instead, the City pays the landlord the difference between the current rent and the future rent. </p>

<p> SCRIE can help senior citizens freeze their rent and prevent it from being increased. </p>

<ul> <li>Once you apply, it takes 10 - 15 days to hear back </li> <li>You can qualify for SCRIE even if you have not filed your taxes </li> <li>You will need to send documents. <p> People with low and moderate income can obtain affordable housing through the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). NYCHA has Senior and Community Centers and offers residents programs to help find work and provides education on how to manage money and finances. </p>

<p> Affordable housing for low-and moderate-income New Yorkers. </p>

<ul> <li>Rent is based on your family's income. Most buildings have electricity and gas included in the rent. </li> <li>You do not need to be a citizen to apply. However, at least one person who lives with you must be a citizen or have legal immigration status. </li> <li>Accessible apartments are available for people with disabilities. Some apartments have been modified and are available for persons with mobility impairments. <p> CTC allows people with qualifying children to lessen their federal income tax by up to $1,000. You can claim both CTC and the credit for Child and Dependent Care expenses. </p>
