<p> Senior citizens can get a rent freeze through SCRIE. If their rent goes up, people with SCRIE do not have to pay the higher rent. Instead, the City pays the landlord the difference between the current rent and the future rent. </p>

<p> SCRIE can help senior citizens freeze their rent and prevent it from being increased. </p>

Child Support Services

<p> The program helps mothers, fathers, and guardians with child support. People who receive child support can get help collecting it. People who pay child support can get help finding a job. Other services are also available. </p>

<p> Financial support for children and employment support for fathers and mothers. </p>

<ul> <li>You don\u2019t have to be a citizen to get this service, and you won't be asked about your immigration status </li> <li>This program doesn\u2019t help with custody or visitation. It can guide you to resources for these services </li> <li>You should get a child support order even if you think the other parent can\u2019t afford to pay right now. They can get help finding work and may qualify for financial protections </li> <li>A child can get child support until age 21, even if the other parent isn\u2019t involved in the child\u2019s life </li> <li>Parents whose cash assistance was lowered because they did not participate correctly with child support can have it raised when they begin to comply. These parents should bring the necessary documentation to their <a href="https://access.nyc.gov/locations/?programs=15014" target="_blank">child support office</a> </li> <li>Child support has proven to benefit kids in many ways, especially when it comes to doing well in school </li> </ul>

<p> To be eligible for child support services, you should be able to answer \u201cyes\u201d to these questions: </p> <ul> <li>Are you a parent or legal guardian of a child under the age of 21? </li> <li>Are you primarily responsible for the child\u2019s day-to-day life? </li> </ul>

<p> Veterans and their families who are homeless can get help through HUD-VASH. The program helps veterans find and keep permanent housing by providing Section 8 rental vouchers as well as case management and other supportive services at VA medical centers. </p>

Rent freeze for people with disabilities

<p> DRIE provides a rent freeze to tenants with disabilities. If their rent goes up, tenants with DRIE do not have to pay the higher rate. The City pays the difference between the current and future rent. </p>

<p> DRIE can help people with disabilities freeze their rent so it won't be increased. </p>

<ul> <li>Once applied, it takes 10 - 15 days to hear back </li> <li>You are not required to file taxes to qualify for DRIE </li> <li>You will need to send documents. <p> Gifted & Talented (G&T) programs are one way that NYC supports the needs of exceptional students. To participate in G&T Admissions, sign your child up to take the G&T Test. Students who get a high enough score on this test will have the chance to apply for G&T programs. </p>

<p> G&T programs support the needs of exceptional students with more challenging classes. </p>

<ul> <li>Students with disabilities, in temporary housing, and English Language Learners (ELL) are encouraged to take the test and will be supported in G&T programs </li> <li>Open to students in public school, charter school, private school, and parochial school students </li> <li>District programs take students in local elementary schools, Citywide programs take students from across NYC </li> <li>Students have a higher chance of getting an offer to District G&T programs </li> <li>Sign up for the test online or in person </li> </ul>

<p> The Young Adult Literacy Program (YALP) is a free program that helps youth ages 16-24 who struggle with reading, writing, and math prepare for <a href="http://www.acces.nysed.gov/hse/high-school-equivalency-hse"><u>high school equivalency</u></a> (HSE) classes. Participants can attend pre-HSE classes and get support at eight community-based organizations (CBOs) and eight public libraries in NYC. </p>

<p> HEAP helps eligible households meet their home energy needs in the winter season. The money can pay for fuel, your utility source, equipment and/or repairs. <p> Career and technical education (CTE) lets students gain career skills as they complete high school or high school equivalency (HSE). CTE offers <a href="https://www.schools.nyc.gov/school-life/learning/career-and-technical-education" target="_blank"><u>work-based learning experiences</u></a> like job shadowing, mentorships, and internships. Students can also earn a CTE-endorsed Regents Diploma, on top of traditional high school graduation requirements. </p>

<p> EITC can provide a tax refund of up to $8,463 (combined federal, state and City). The credit is meant for low- to moderate-income working individuals and couples, particularly those with children. You claim the credit when you file your taxes. </p>
