Money for heat and utility expenses

<p> HEAP helps eligible households meet their home energy needs in the winter season. The money can pay for fuel, your utility source, equipment and/or repairs. The City pays the costs either directly to the company (heating benefit and/or utility benefit) or to the household (utility benefit only). </p>

<p> HEAP can help you pay for the costs of heating your home during the winter months. </p>

<ul> <li>You can apply for HEAP every year between November and March </li> <li>You may still be able to receive benefits even if your utilities are included in your rent </li> <li>Emergency benefits are available if your heat has been turned off or is in danger of being turned off </li> <li>Requires proof of address, social security number, income, and your utility bills (if you pay utilities) </li> </ul>

Rent freeze for people with disabilities

<p> DRIE provides a rent freeze to tenants with disabilities. If their rent goes up, tenants with DRIE do not have to pay the higher rate. The City pays the difference between the current and future rent. </p>

<p> DRIE can help people with disabilities freeze their rent so it won't be increased. </p>

<ul> <li>Once applied, it takes 10 - 15 days to hear back </li> <li>You are not required to file taxes to qualify for DRIE </li> <li>You will need to send documents. Never mail your original documents, just copies </li> <li>You do not need your landlord's permission to apply </li> <li>Apply online, by mail, or in person </li> </ul>

Free health care in schools

<p> Students can get easy access to health care at their school. Services include: </p> <ul> <li>medical exams </li> <li>eye exams </li> <li>asthma screenings </li> <li>help with medicine </li> </ul> <p> Some SBHCs also offer mental health care and reproductive care for high-schoolers. </p>

<p> Students can get free health care in their school. </p>

<ul> <li>Students can get free care regardless of immigration status. </li> <li>Students can get free care even if they don't have insurance. Staff can help families apply for free or low-cost public health insurance. </li> <li>Centers offer appointments during school hours and 24 hour phone support. </li> <li>High-schoolers can receive private reproductive care. They do not need consent from their families. </li> <li>Not all schools have SBHCs, you can check with your child's school to see if a health center is on site. </li> </ul>

<p> All students enrolled at a school with a SBHC are eligible for health care services at their school. </p>

<p> This tax credit helps working families pay for the care of children, adult dependents, or disabled spouses. You can claim up to $3,000 in expenses for one dependent or $6,000 for more than one when you file your taxes. </p>

<ul> <li>File your taxes by April 17, 2018 </li> <li>The tax credit equals 20-to-35 percent of what you spent on care for a child 12 and under </li> <li>If you qualify, the government mails your refund or deposits it into your bank account </li> <li>Single parents and custodial divorced parents can also qualify for this credit </li> </ul>

<p> Special Education Parent Centers provide information and resources to families of students with disabilities. The centers can help families be more involved in their child's education, understand their child's disabilities, resolve issues with families and school districts early, and more. </p>

<p> Middle school offers students opportunities to explore their interests, discover new subjects, and learn more about themselves. New York City students can apply to up to 12 middle school programs. </p>

Free health care in schools

<p> Students can get easy access to health care at their school. Services include: </p> <ul> <li>medical exams </li> <li>eye exams </li> <li>asthma screenings </li> <li>help with medicine </li> </ul> <p> Some SBHCs also offer mental health care and reproductive care for high-schoolers. </p>

<p> Students can get free health care in their school. </p>

<ul> <li>Students can get free care regardless of immigration status. </li> <li>Students can get free care even if they don't have insurance. Staff can help families apply for free or low-cost public health insurance. </li> <li>Centers offer appointments during school hours and 24 hour phone support. </li> <li>High-schoolers can receive private reproductive care. They do not need consent from their families. </li> <li>Not all schools have SBHCs, you can check with your child's school to see if a health center is on site. </li> </ul>

<p> All students enrolled at a school with a SBHC are eligible for health care services at their school. </p>

<p> High school juniors and seniors in the In-School Youth Program will receive assistance in career exploration, college readiness, and high school graduation. </p>

<p> ISY helps high schoolers succeed in school while preparing them for college and their careers. </p>

<ul> <li>Must have a Social Security Number </li> <li>Must be able to work legally in US </li> <li>Enroll between September 1 - 30 </li> </ul>

<p> You may be eligible if you can answer yes to these questions: </p> <ul> <li>Are you between 16 - 21 years old? </li> <li>Are you a NYC high school junior or senior? </li> <li>Do you meet <strong>one</strong> of these requirements? <ul> <li>Do you receive cash assistance or SNAP, or are you a member of a household that receives cash assistance or SNAP? </li> <li>Are you homeless? </li> <li>Are you a foster care youth? </li> <li>If you do not meet one of these requirements, ISY will look at your income to see if you are eligible. <p> Senior citizens can get a rent freeze through SCRIE. If their rent goes up, people with SCRIE do not have to pay the higher rent. Instead, the City pays the landlord the difference between the current rent and the future rent. </p>

<p> HEAP helps eligible households meet their home energy needs in the winter season. The money can pay for fuel, your utility source, equipment and/or repairs.
