NYCDCP Manhattan Bike Count Locations

The Transportation Division of the New York City Department of City Planning (NYCDCP) has performed annual bike counts in Manhattan since 1999. The counts have been conducted along designated bicycle routes at 10 on-street and 5 off-street locations during the fall season. These locations have remained generally consistent. The data collected includes cyclist/user volumes, helmet usage, use of bike lane, gender, etc. The bike counts data can offer insights into the overall trends in user demographics and travel patterns over time.

2021 Students In Temporary Housing

Students in temporary housing (STH) are defined as students experiencing housing instability at any point, for any length of time, during the school year (from the first day of school to 7/2). This includes students and families that are "doubled up" (sharing the housing of others due to economic hardship), living in shelter (including NYC Department of Homeless Services family shelters or Human Resources Administration domestic violence shelters), or living in some other unstable, temporary housing. There were approximately 87,000 New York City district school students who resided in temporary housing in the 2020-21 school year, with about two thirds of them residing in doubled up living arrangements. Approximately 9,500 of those 87,000 students were residing in the DHS shelter system on any given night. The DOE works in close partnership with the Department of Homeless Services to provide streamlined support for students in shelter throughout each day.

New York City Local Law 85 of 2015 requires the New York City Department of Correction (DOC) to publicly report Jail Visitation Statistics within 30 days of the beginning of each quarter for the preceding quarter. Specifically, the DOC is required to report the following metrics on a quarterly basis:

(1)The total number of visitors to city jails, the total number of visitors to borough jail facilities, and the total number of visitors to city jails on Rikers Island,</p>

(2) The total number of visitors that visited a person in custody at city jails, the total number of visitors that visited a person in custody at borough jail facilities, and the total number of visitors that visited a person in custody at city jails on Rikers Island, </p>

(3) The number of visitors unable to visit a person in custody at any city jail, in total and disaggregated by the reason such visit was not completed, </p>

(4) The person in custody visitation rate, which shall be calculated by dividing the average daily number of visitors who visited persons in custody at city jails during the reporting period by the average daily person in custody population of city jails during the reporting period, </p>

(5) The borough jail facility visitation rate, which shall be calculated by dividing the average daily number of visitors who visited persons in custody at borough jail facilities during the reporting period by the average daily person in custody population of borough jail facilities during the reporting period, and </p>

Maternal mortality is widely considered an indicator of overall population health and the status of women in the population. DOHMH uses multiple methods including death certificates, vital records linkage, medical examiner records, and hospital discharge data to identify all pregnancy-associated deaths (deaths that occur during pregnancy or within a year of the end of pregnancy) of New York state residents in NYC each year. DOHMH convenes the Maternal Mortality and Morbidity Review Committee (M3RC), a multidisciplinary and diverse group of 40 members that conducts an in-depth, expert review of each pregnancy-associated death of New York state residents occurring in NYC from both clinical and social determinants of health perspectives. The data in this table come from vital records and the M3RC review process. Data are not cross-classified on all variables: cause of death data are available by the relation to pregnancy (pregnancy-related, pregnancy-associated but not related, unable to determine), race/ethnicity and borough of residence data are each separately available for the total number of pregnancy-associated deaths and pregnancy-related deaths only.

NYC Cooling Tower Registrations

This dataset contains cooling tower systems currently registered in the NYC Cooling Tower Registration Portal and <i>Legionella</i> water test dates as reported by a building's qualified person. Decommissioned cooling tower systems are excluded from the dataset.

Cooling tower registration in NYC was mandated by Section 17-194.1 of the NYC Administrative Code on August 18, 2015, and operation and maintenance of cooling towers in NYC are ruled by Chapter 8 of Title 24 of the Rules of the City of New York (Chapter 8).

The cooling tower system’s qualified person, as defined in Chapter 8, must report Legionella water test dates to the NYC Health Department as required by amendments to the NYC Administrative Code Section 17-194.1(f) on April 28, 2019.

The NYC Department of Buildings requires building owners and managers to register their cooling tower systems and the registration data is shared with BWSO for this dataset. Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Eligibility by Census Tract - FGDB

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires local municipalities that receive Community Development Block Grant (CDBG or CD) formula Entitlement funds to use the 5-year 2016-2020 American Community Survey (ACS) Low and Moderate Income Summary Data (LMISD) data file to determine where CDBG funds may be used for activities that are available to all the residents in a particular area ("CD area benefit" or "CD-eligible area"). A CD-eligible census tract refers to 2020 census tracts where the area is primarily residential in nature and at least 51.00% of the residents are low- and moderate-income persons as per the LMISD data file. For New York City, a primarily residential area is defined as one where at least 50.00% of the total built floor area is residential. Low- and moderate-income persons are defined as persons living in households with incomes below 80 percent of the area median household income (AMI).
In addition, floor area percentages have been updated with the most recent floor area data (PLUTO 24v4).
Persons who are interested in determining their individual household eligibility for CD-funded programs should refer to <a href='https://www.huduser.gov/portal/datasets/il.html'>HUD's household low- and moderate-income limits for the given year.</a>

This data set includes certificates of occupancy issued through the New York City Department of Buildings' DOB NOW: Certificate of Occupancy module. This module was released in March of 2021, anbd from that point onward this data set should be utilized instead of the "DOB Certificate of Occupancy" data set. The data is collected because the Department of Buildings tracks Certificates of Occupancies issued. This data include items such as job filing name, job filing label, BIN, Address, and Certificate of Occupancy status, sequence, label, and issuance date.

"A Certificate of Occupancy (CO) states a legal use and/or type of permitted occupancy of a building. New buildings must have a CO, and existing buildings must have a current or amended CO when there is a change in use, egress or type of occupancy. No one may legally occupy a building until the Department has issued a CO or Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (TCO).

A CO confirms that the completed work complies with all applicable laws, all paperwork has been completed, all fees owed to the Department have been paid, all relevant violations have been resolved, and all necessary approvals have been received from other City Agencies. The Department issues a final CO when the completed work matches the submitted plans for new buildings or major alterations."
