I am looking for information on any marriage in which one or both parties were a minor (under age 18) in NYC. The information I'd need is the year each marriage took place, along with the age and sex of each party to the marriage, for the years 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.

If information on age and sex of the parties to a marriage is not available or can't be shared for privacy reasons, then it would also be helpful to just know the total number of minors that married in each of the years mentioned. A total number of girls compared to boys for each year, and the lowest age of a minor married for each year would also be very helpful.


New York passed a law in 2017 that changed the requirements for minors (under age 18) to marry. I am trying to understand how this law impacted the number of minors who married in NYC, by comparing the number of minors married, along with their exact ages and sex, in the year immediately before and following the law's implementation.

Unfortunately, we currently do not have anything that would satisfy this request. We recommend trying to use the Department of City Planning’s Street Sectional Map. This has served as a basemap for New York City’s Zoning Maps since 1961. Check DCP’s NYC Street Map (https://www1.nyc.gov/site/planning/data-maps/nyc-street-map.page) to see if they have a representative street sectional map for the 1980s. We also think you should try using the New York Public Library’s Map Division (https://www.nypl.org/about/divisions/map-division). Hope this helps!

In May, the NYPD claimed that it was stepping up patrols outside Black houses of worship in response to the mass shooting in Buffalo. I am hoping that the NYPD will be willing to share data on the number of visits it has made to houses of worship since January 2022 up through the current date. I filed a FOIL request ***** on *****, but I am wondering if this data might be already available in another dataset. I know, for instance, that NYPD visits to houses of worship are included in the Complaint NYPD Data, but I am not sure how recent the data is. Thank you.

I would like HPD to be required to post a csv formatted version of its NYC Housing and Vacancy Survey microdata on NYC Open Data. Right now, the agency limits available formats to SAS and STATA, neither of which are useful to the majority of public data users. In this day and age, the City of New York should be moving to increase, not restrict, access to publicly-funded public datasets. No one should have to make a special request or have friends in the agency in order to obtain the NYCHVS in a csv format. That is the case, however, now. Please change this a require the microdata to be posted on NYC Open Data in a csv format, the during the same year in which the data are received by HPD. Thank you very much.


Many questions about housing; general research

No, HPD will not release the requested NYC Housing and Vacancy Survey (NYCHVS) microdata as open data because HPD does not own this data. However, we spoke with the Census bureau, which has agreed to post csv formats of the NYCHVS microdata when the files become available (around late 2022).

They have a dataset posted on Open Data here: https://data.cityofnewyork.us/Health/NYC-Pool-Inspections/3kfa-rvez. In order to find inspections related to Parks pools they can filter on "Facility_Name" where it contains "NYCP&R."

I'm looking for up to date traffic counts for Columbia St. in Brooklyn. The records only go until 2019. Since these are automated and since the city has a subscription with Streetlight, shouldn't these be updated automatically?


I want to know recent traffic counts.

Traffic Volume Counts dataset on the Open Data Portal was removed due to the redundancy of the data, it was added back due to high demand, linked below. The Automated Traffic Volume Counts data was the preferred dataset with the more detailed 15 min count intervals compare to the 1 hour count intervals. The data are collected 3-6 month per year at various locations by placing automated traffic recorder on streets and the update schedule is once per year during the fall.
