Good afternoon: OPA handles about $300 million in union dues deductions for city employees, and runs reports on request showing how many people in each bargaining unit paid dues in a given pay period, compared to how many people were in the bargaining unit. This is interesting to labor academics following a 2018 U.S. Supreme Court decision that changed the rules about which employees had to pay a union as a condition of employment.


What are the trends in union membership in different occupations? What percentage of employees are choosing to pay dues?

We are currently working with the "Real-Time Traffic Speed Data" downloaded from NYC Open Data. This data contains the locations IDs for each sensor. However, there is no mapping between these locations and the TAZ of NY. This would be critical for the research we trying to conduct. Is there any chance you could provide us with such mapping?

To trend the number of zip codes that have a positivity rate above a certain number (say 5%) over time. Say there are 5 zip codes 1 month ago and 20 today, then we know how rapidly spread is taking place over a geographical region. Thanks.

What model and make of boilers are used in NYC major air sources of airpollution under the Clean Air Act?

The DEP CATS database provides information for an individual boiler and does not identify if the boiler is located at a major source facility. The DEP permitting process is on an equipment basis and the NYS DEC Title V permitting process is based on facility wide emissions.

Title V source permits can be obtained in the NYS DEC website. https://www.dec.ny.gov/dardata/boss/afs/issued_atv.html

Each Title V permit includes specific permit conditions including any emission monitoring requirements.

DEP does not monitor for PM10 and NOx at major sources but NYS DEC has an air monitoring program.

I am a professor at the *** doing research on animal abuse. I have downloaded the 311 animal abuse complaints for 2019 to present. But I am hoping to get the same data for 2010 to present. I tried to download the entire 311 file and then select the subset of animal abuse complaints, but the file is too large for my computer to download. Could you please provide an excel file with animal abuse complaints (no other complaints) from 2010 to present?

Hi,

The Department of City Planning (DCP) does not have a dataset that has census tracts and zip codes in the same file and not aware of such a dataset existing. The reason is that census tracts and zip codes are not one-to-one, meaning a census tract could be split by a zip code and vice versa. You may want to reach out to NYC Health Department to see how they compare census data to health data at zip code level.

DCP did create a Neighborhood Tabulation Area (NTA) which aggregates census tracts to more of a neighborhood level (but not official neighborhoods). However, this is only available starting with the 2010 Census.

My name is ***, and I'm a graduate student at *** working with***. I emailed you previously regarding access to some data about population, age, and deaths due COVID-19 for a project for calculating Infection Fatality Rates. I received some excellent data from your team- thank you!

I'm writing to request a bit more information to complete this project. I’m looking for daily deaths recorded between March 23rd and May 17th, for the age classes 45-55 and 55-65 (deaths for these ages are currently grouped together as 45-65). I’m looking for how many deaths due to COVID-19 occurred on each of these dates within the time frame, for the age groups specified. I can use daily deaths or cumulative deaths for each day - I have no preference. If it is possible to group them by Underlying Conditions like they are in the daily summaries, that would be excellent, but it is not necessary.

Hello, I am working on a GIS project where I need to map green infrastructure sites in NYC. I see that there is the DEP Green Infrastructure Program Map, but I see that the data is displayed as points. Is there a NYC green infrastructure shapefile that has green infrastructure sites as polygons? Since I want to actually have the surface area of green infrastructure sites displayed, rather than just points.


I am trying to see if there is a relationship between the location and surface area of green infrastructure sites and neighborhoods with reduced energy consumption.

We don't have the shapefile in polygon format, only as points. However, there are size attributes that can be used for analysis, such as lenght/width/area of each asset.

We map all infrastructure with our lidar sensor and aerial imagery that was collected simultaneously, however, this sensor was not able to map all features in depth. I've been mapping all features via google earth but having this data for a small section would be great. I can provide our AOI.
