Neighborhood Tabulation Areas (NTAs):
Description: Neighborhood Tabulation Areas (NTAs) were created to project populations at a small area level, from 2000 to 2030 for PlaNYC, the long-term sustainability plan for New York City. Since population size affects the error associated with population projections, these geographic units needed to have a minimum population, which we determined to be 15,000. This criterion resulted in combinations of neighborhoods that probably would not occur if one were solely designating boundaries of historical neighborhoods.

I am looking for a dataset that contains the names, phone numbers, and addresses of each public school in the NYC, hopefully with more demographic data as well including ages, genders, graduation rate. Basically, I would like the book that students in 7th and 8th grade are given for high schools but with all schools grade/middle/highschools in NYC

Hi, does the city release any data on the CityFHEPS voucher or any city-funded housing subsidy? Or any data marginally related to statistics on CityFHEPS, the city's subsidy budget?


What are the demographics of the voucher holders? How many of those are able to transition from shelter to the community with the voucher within a 3-month period of receiving a shopping letter? How many of those who have found housing with the voucher did not end up returning to the shelter within a one year and two year period? Where do shelter exits relocate to with the vouchers?How do these data vary for clients in prevention cases? Thanks.

I am yet to receive the core (comparative) statistics that I need to show what remarkable progress the NYPD and ASPCA have made since ACIS was formed. I have received general statements suggesting a big rise in productivity and protection of animals. However, I specifically require data pertaining to 2016 - present (by year) of: animal cruelty reports received; animal cruelty reports investigated; animals seized; prosecutions initiated and prosecutions finalised.

Apparently, the NYC Department of Buildings currently posts 23 datasets in NYC OpenData.

In them I am unable to find the “Actual construction cost of completed work (total job cost)” as shown in toto and in detail on the form “PW3: Cost Affidavit” that every owner is required to submit to obtain Sign-off.

Is this information available in OpenData? If not, will it be made available in the future?

Estimated job cost and initial cost (initial cost = ‘estimated cost of job’) do not suffice as they are mere estimates. “Actual construction cost of completed work” is what is needed, and this is available on every PW3 submitted by permit holders to obtain Sign-off.

The significance is this: since time immemorial the NYC Department of Finance has obtained the actual costs from the Department of Buildings, for the purpose of adding the actual costs of new construction or renovation to the market value of the property, so that they may be taxed. Apparently, these costs have not yet found their way into any of the Department of Buildings’ Open Data datasets.

However, you may be sure that the Department of Finance obtains each and every one of the actual costs directly from the Department of Buildings, and always has. I have not yet been able to open some of the Department of Finance’s Open Data datasets, as it seems they cannot be opened by ordinary means. So, I do not yet know if the Department of Finance lists the actual costs somewhere in its Open Data datasets. But that it lists and analyzes them somewhere in its own internal datasets, is without doubt.

I would like to see two things happen: the Department of Buildings publish this data in its Open Data datasets, and the Department of Finance publish this data in its Open Data datasets.

The Youth Development in Diverse Contexts research lab at *** is seeking weekly or daily data on hate crime, with the inclusion of motivation, type of crime, and victim and perpetrator demographics. We would like this information for 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. We only need data for precincts 26, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 52, 61, 66, 67, 68, 70, 71, 72, 73, 75, 77, 81, 84, 88, 94, 100, 102, 103, 104,
105, 106, 107, 108, 109, 110, 111, 112, 113, 114, 115, but are happy to have data on all of them if that is easier to compile, as long as we can identify the location that the crime took place.


We are aiming to identify the impact that crime in one's neighborhood impacts sleep quality. We have previously collected other crime statistics, but hate crime data was missing from the dataset.

As per Local Law 11 of 2012 (NYC Open Data law), Local Law 109 of 2015 (timely and thorough responses to the public), and Local Law 251 of 2017 (requirement to publish all public datasets on the Open Data Portal), I hereby make the following request and ask that you comply with the above referenced laws:

1. I would like to see Citywide Payroll Data for Fiscal Years 2008 through and including 2013, specifically for the Department of Sanitation. On the NYC Open Data website your data only goes back to FY2014.

2. I would like to know the borough work location of Sanitation Workers for FY 2014. The NYC Open Data portal information is not complete for that sub-dataset. It has the work borough location for DSNY employees for FY 2015-2019, but not for 2014.


I'm exercising my rights under the above cited laws to answer my questions with the data. It's as simple as that.

You denied my previous request on the grounds that medical information cannot be made public. However, the type of information I'm requesting now is ALREADY public. Payroll info is public, it's already in the public domain, so that excuse won't fly. I'm just asking for more transparency in disclosure.

And don't deny it on the grounds that it's "too much" info. I'm not asking for the entire city's payroll info. I'm just asking for the DSNY payroll info, just one department, that's it, for FY 2008-2013. And also the work borough locations for 2014. You guys have this info on spreadsheets already, it doesn't take much to either upload it to the NYC Open Data Portal or send it to me directly.

Please comply with the above cited laws and fulfill this simple request. Cagey responses or denials under false pretenses are not in compliance with the laws.

FISA-OPA maintains this dataset as a point in time. The work borough location was not part of this dataset when it was published for Fiscal Year 2014. What would be produced now would not necessarily match the available published data. The same explanation goes for previous years—we would not be able to produce accurate results on past data without data integrity issues. I would like information on SNAP participation by demographics and zip-code in NYC at the week level during the time range 2018 to present.

To effectively answer my question, I would need at least age demographics, but the more granular the data, the better. To more effectively answer my question, I would like to observe SNAP participation by disability status as well.

I would also like data on SNAP eligibility by county (or zipcode!), if possible.


I am interested in studying why only 42% of eligible elderly take up SNAP benefits.

The introduction of the online purchasing pilot program in April of 2019 is a great setting to answer this question.

I need a list of all the hotels in New York City, with their latitude and longitude (any additional information about like the amount of rooms would be helpful too).


I am writing a dissertation about restaurants in NYC and I need hotel locations to control for tourist or visitor density.

We are not aware of a specific hotel dataset that is publicly available. You could use PLUTO or MapPLUTO, which contain extensive land use and geographic data at the tax lot level (PLUTO is a CSV field, MapPLUTO is a geographic file available as file geodatabase or shapefile).

Within those datasets there is a Building Class field. You can select lots with Building Classes that start with "H" for hotel. You can see all of the Building Class values in the PLUTO data dictionary (Appendix C). You should review Appendix C to see if there are any other building classes that meet your criteria.

Your site has restaurants or food places that are not inspected yet, but not available in a list one one health site while another has it but not in order unless one knows the name to see them all.


Trying to see which food places are new to visit first which have discounts sometimes on the first 2 days.

The DOHMH New York City restaurant Inspection Results dataset on Open Data portal is updated daily with inspection information for all active restaurant food service establishments. An active restaurant food service establishment is one that has a valid Food Service Establishment Permit, which needs to be renewed annually. Every restaurant in New York City is scheduled for an unannounced inspection at least once a year. During the inspection, an inspector checks for compliance with city and state food safety regulations and marks points for any condition that violates these rules. Information on restaurants that do not have a valid Food Service Establishment Permit is not available.

Our group is interested in finding out what cemeteries are really costing NYC. We want to know how much cemetery land is worth and what NYC is missing out on by keeping the large plots of land as cemeteries. We will also look at how cemeteries impact the housing market: are homes within 100 yards of a cemetery purchased for less than similar homes that are not within that boundary? We will also explore the demand for cemeteries and look at death rates and data on how many people are choosing cremation over burials. This will help us understand if there is still a high demand for cemeteries, or if they remain due to historical preservation.
Currently, We are focusing on calvary and greenwood cemeteries. It would be very much helpful if you could give us some cvs file related to this.

To find tax lots that contain cemeteries you should filter the Building Class field for value 'Z8' - cemetery. You can use the AssessTot field to find the Assessed Total Value. This is not necessarily the property value, this is the value the Department of Finance uses to determine property tax. You can also do a spatial query to determine which lots are within a distance from cemeteries and find their total assessed value as well. You may want to look up the Owner Name of the cemeteries - most are privately owned.

Please consult the PLUTO data dictionary for any questions regarding MapPLUTO fields and values.

The Planimetrics dataset from DOITT also contains a Cemetery outline feature but does not contain much attribute information. That dataset can be found here:

I'm trying to find a dataset of the Yellow Taxis with the geo information (longitude and latitude) of each trip. I was only able to finde dataset that included the start- and endpoint of the trip, but I would need it of the whole ride. A data set that contains the total number of units in a building, preferably by unit number so as to ascertain the arrangement of units within the structure.


We do surveys of buildings and in order to equitably distribute the survey to the occupants, we need to have a configuration of the units so we can equitably distribute to unit numbers that would provide the most equatable coverage of issues across the architecture and design for any particular building. For example, we wish to ascertain if certain parts of a building are receiving better or worse heating or A/C coverage. If we focus entirely on just one section of the building with our surveys, it would be unbalanced - so we need to distribute the surveys across all floors and levels but without swamping the entire building with surveys.

When I look up a building in the HPD database, I can see information about the registration of the building. IE last filing date, property manager, etc.


I would love to have this to query which property managers are late on registering a building with the HPD.

Hi ,

The registration data be used to determine which property registrations are out of date, per our documentation. Each of our registration records contain information on the last valid registration date at the time of posting. A valid registration is one in which all of the appropriate data is supplied. Each registration will also display an expiration date. If the expiration date has passed, the property registration is not current. Note that this dataset is updated quarterly, so any information submitted after the last quarter ahead of the current publication date will not be available.

I'd like to request that the automatic update schedule for HMC Complaints and Complaint Problems be changed from monthly to daily, to mirror when complaints become available via the HPD portal.


An app my organization has developed aims to provide users with the most recent HPD complaint data available. Currently, data on our app lag behind the HPD portal up to one month. In contrast, similar datasets such as HPD violations and DOB complaints are updated daily.
