DCA does not track or maintain any data regarding market size or employee data for any industry in the City, regardless of whether the business requires a DCA-issued license.

The Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) no longer tracks information regarding the catering industry, as the license category has been discontinued as of 9/30/2018. Details regarding the sixty-five (65) former licensees can be found on the NYC Open Data Portal in the “Legally Operating Businesses” data set; note these licenses are all inactive.

DCA does not maintain a comprehensive list of restaurants or track the restaurant industry as a whole, as this business activity is not licensed by DCA.

At this time, we believe that your requested dataset is not maintained by a New York City agency.

We don't currently have a record of which kind of antennas are on which Mobile Telecommunication Franchise Pole-top Installations. We do publish the locations of the 4000+ installations on light poles and utility poles throughout the City. Some, however, are Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and not technically “small cells”. There are also likely many “small cells” installed on private property in NYC, but DoITT does not collect any information related to those.

I am conducting historical research on the trends in the NYC commercial real estate market and I am writing to find out whether the data gathered through the Real Property Income & Expense reports is made available to the public. In particular, I have seen the annual report from the board of rent stabilization that uses historical RPIE data to track the trend in residential rents and I wanted to find out if similar historical data may be available to the public. I am especially interested in commercial property data from the RPIE reports, such as rents over a historical period of time for all of class 4 or specific building types such as office buildings), but would be interested in whatever RPIE data or annual reports may be available.


I am trying to analyze historical trends in the NYC commercial real estate market. In particular, I would like to be use the data on rent or income and occupancy to try to track the trend office rents over time.

RPIE filings are tax secret pursuant to NYC Admin Code §11-208.1, which is why this data is not available to the public.

You made reference to a report from the board of rent stabilization, but we would have to see that data to be able to determine if it is actual RPIE or from another source of public data.

I would like to analyze traffic light intervals on NYC streets.

Here are some questions that come to mind, although I'm certain that there is much more information stored on the DOT servers for each intersection's traffic lights:

- how long are the go & stop phases for each direction?
- is a traffic light influenced by pedestrian crossing requests?
- how are the phases synchronized along a street?
- what is the traffic speed go-phases are optimized for & is bicycle traffic speed taken into account in this?
- is a traffic light set to a fixed schedule, i.e. day/night, or remotely controlled to react to current traffic volume


I'd like to understand the current level of optimization and automation in traffic light signaling. I'd further like to explore how a two-tier optimization for both car and bicycle traffic throughput could be implemented.

HPD as an agency is not responsible for maintaining a list of all habitable buildings in New York City. Our Multiple Dwelling Registration dataset collects registration information from owners of residential rental units. Per the dataset description: “Owners are required to register if they own residential buildings with three or more units or if they own one- or two-family homes and neither they nor members of their immediate family live there.” However, there are many small buildings in NYC that would not be accounted for in the MDR dataset. I recommend that the requestor consult PLUTO data to meet your needs.

This is a follow up to a previous exhcange. I went to the website provided and attempted to find what I need, however, only most recent files appear. The 2010-2011 Survey also appears but when I click on the link it states the website does not exist and the data is not there.

On the Survey Archives page, linked here, https://infohub.nyced.org/reports-and-policies/school-quality/nyc-school-survey/survey-archives, it states to access data from 2007-2014 to email the provided email address for this data. However, I have done this several times and have not received a response. I have also tried calling and have been given phone numbers that are dead and have been referred back to the open data website. I am a bit at a loss as to where to go from here. The data are listed as for being of public use but cannot seem to get a hold of any of what I would hope to have for this project.

I was recently told by someone at the DOT that there is taxi GPS breadcrum data (at HERE we refer to it as probe data) available on the NYC Open Data site. I have been able to find a great deal of “Taxi Trip Data”, but none of them appear to have GPS data (other than the start and end points) such as Lat, Long, timestamp of the collection, path ID, heading, etc.

Hello! I am looking for a dataset specifically on the NYC Local Law 84 energy disclosure data. I found mention of this dataset in a paper titled "A data-driven predictive model of city-scale energy use in buildings", by Kontokosta and Tull. The dataset includes time series data from 2010 to 2015, and a breakdown of the energy use by fuel type. I am specifically interested in the time series data; I have seen the public datasets for local law 84, but I am hoping for more fine grained temporal data.


For this dataset in particular, we are hoping to build more accurate models for predicting energy consumption. Other parameters we plan to include are weather data, window ratio, shadows from other buildings, and even estimated occupancy. This is part of a larger project for producing real-time personal "energy footprints", or the portion of energy a person is responsible for throughout the day. By combining the models of energy prediction with population models (developed separately), we hope to provide a clearer picture of how an occupant's energy footprint is affected throughout the day depending on the places visited.

Hi ,

I would not suggest aggregating and dividing any census information into arbitrary districts or geometries. You would end up splitting census tracts and then would have to estimate how to reassign split population to each new cube. For example, if one of your cubes splits a census tract by 80% and that tract has 10,000 people - you would most likely assign 80% (8,000 people) to that cube, but in reality, only 2,000 people might actually live in that split up portion.

I would suggest using City Planning's Neighborhood Tabulation Area's (NTAs). NTAs are small geographic areas that were created by the New York City Department of City Planning, using whole census tracts from the 2010 Census as building blocks. Each NTA’s boundaries are consistent with Public Use Microdata Areas (PUMAs), approximations of New York City's Community Districts developed for use with the Census Bureau's Public Use Microdata Samples (PUMS).

You could then divide population by NTA without splitting census tracts and the data will virtually align to Community Districts (with slight variance).

Which 2014 primary are you trying to analyze? Different elections have different election districts. For example, the State Senate districts are different from City Council districts. Also, NYC Open Data will only have the districts for New York City, not other districts within the State.

You can find historical election and political districts on Dept. of City Planning's website here:

You can browse through or search for data. The lowest level (most general) would be the Election districts, search "Election" and look for 2014 version (the data is released quarterly so there are 4 versions 14A, 14B, 14C, 14D).

One, please understand that 2008-2009 data can be found in separate data sets. The only 311 compliant data that spans different years can be found from 2010-Present here: https://data.cityofnewyork.us/Social-Services/311-...
Two, Please have a plan on how you would like to filter down on what you are looking for. This data is massive with millions of rows and may require significant time to render a visualization even if it is just to make a small change.
Three, please be advised that there many complaint categories. It may be helpful to just select a handful that are relevant to what you are trying to convey. When trying to visualize the amount of complaints for every complaint type in 2008 data, my bar chart was practically illegible

2006-07 was the first year of the Progress Report. School performance data for years before then (back to 1998-99) can be found on the New York State school report card website (look for the "school report card database" - not the reports themselves which are mostly missing).

The Progress Reports were the main accountability tool used by the New York City Department of Education from 2007 through 2013. The School Quality Reports replace the Progress Report. We are currently in the process of uploading any outstanding Progress Reports files to the portal.

I am looking for data about rental income (avg unit rent), expenses, and vacancy rates by building. I believe that in assessing the market value of rental buildings the owner provides annual information on building income, expenses, and vacancy rates. This information is partially disclosed in other datasets (the condo valuation files). Is it possible to get this data for all rentals over as long a time series as possible? Ideally I would like the BBL (full tax lot identification to link to PLUTO) and I would like information on the ownership (mainly a way of linking what buildings are owned by same owner, not info about the owner).


I am a graduate student in economics. I am primarily interested in how rents respond to multiple ownership (are multi owners more efficient), how fast vacancies are found in the city, and general dynamics of rents. I have NO financial interest in this data; purely academic. This data, if released, would be very helpful to all researchers interested in urban rents and vacancy rates, which are typically only available at large geographies and long time horizons (e.g., 5 years at Tract level based on ACS). I believe this data and its study would be beneficial to the city and its aims for more affordable housing.
