The Math & Science Exploratory School
Overview
Our school community offers students a rigorous and engaging academic program. Supported by dedicated teaching staff, administration, and PTA, students are provided with opportunities to engage in hands-on, inquiry-based curriculum while constructing knowledge within a meaningful context. Our Exploration Program is an outgrowth of our school's philosophy: middle school students are social individuals and benefit from learning through cooperative groups. The Exploration experience provides students with the opportunity to explore city-wide educational institutions. We understand that the middle school experience is truly unique and we offer a safe and fun place to be a kid. Our advisory program supports students' academic, social, and emotional learning. Our after-school program allows students and teachers to learn new skills and share common interests. We have earned a Blackboard Award for Outstanding School in Brooklyn and a "Well Developed" designation from the Quality Review Score. Our admissions policies reflect our commitment to diversity.

Blueprint Middle School
Overview
Blueprint is a college preparatory middle school. We focus on accelerating students in math and science, as the completion of high level math and science courses is a key indicator for college completion. Students love to investigate and experiment in math and science through our problem-based courses. They enjoy trips to high schools, colleges, cultural institutions, and our monthly Town Hall meetings where they meet people from different careers and learn about their paths. Our school is specifically designed to give students the knowledge that will put them on the road to high school and beyond. Each student receives a unique academic blueprint that serves as a plan for them to meet our learning standards. We hold weekly meetings to discuss student progress and invite families to participate. We also offer elective courses based on student interest such as our Music & Literature, Cooking, Fashion Passion, Photography, and the History of Hip-Hop.

Overview
Students enjoy an inclusive, engaging and rigorous academic environment, as well as many educational field trips. We offer accelerated courses in each subject, including seventh grade accelerated math and the Living Environment Science and Algebra Regents in eighth grade. Our program also includes three years of a second language (French or Spanish) and a three-year, in-depth study of drama, instrumental music, dance, chorus, art or photography. Our social/emotional support and academic and artistic enrichment programs help prepare students for the best high schools in NYC. Over 85% of our eighth graders receive an offer to their top choices. Parents have a voice via the School Leadership Team, Parent Association, fundraising, and volunteerism. Our non-captive lunch/recess allows students to explore the campus and community. We believe that outdoor play is essential to recharging the mind and fostering independence, social skills, and responsible behaviors. We are recipients of the 2012 Golden Apple Award, 2014 Respect for All Award, and have been a top NYC Fundraising School for Pennies for Patients since 2002. We also offer travel opportunities, including trips abroad and grade-wide overnight trips.

Overview
Charles O. Dewey Middle School staff inspire young minds today to create leaders for tomorrow. The school community provides students with a foundation to become strong leaders. Dewey adopted the Leader in Me program to encourage students to be leaders and goal-setters in their personal and public lives. Each week, students have their normal core curriculum focusing on Common Core instruction with technology and career-readiness infused in all lessons, along with a period devoted to lessons on the Seven Habits. There are a variety of opportunities for creativity through the arts in the classrooms. We offer fine arts, digital photography, a choral music program, web-design, spoken word, Latin dance, robotics, and our own art gallery. We specialize in limitless opportunities through project-based learning using STREAM (science, technology, reading, engineering, art, and mathematics). All classrooms have wireless internet access with laptops for each student, Elmos, and SMART Boards.

New Voices School of Academic & Creative Arts
Overview
New Voices School of Academic & Creative Arts (M.S. 443) was established as a small middle school to provide students with an academically rigorous education coupled with a creative, artistic program that enables them to be successful in their personal and academic life. With the support of strong parent involvement, community partnerships, and a diverse community, we have created an environment that nurtures students, both artistically and academically. New Voices has staff who are committed to teaching and learning through a teacher-driven professional development program. Teachers are committed to developing the talent and knowledge of our students and ignite their artistic passions. We believe that children who study and practice the arts enhance their intellect, learn self-discipline, and realize the global implications of creativity and culture. We aim to allow our students to excel in a positive, collaborative environment.

Overview
Our school has established the following goals: increase the number of students who are proficient in ELA and Math, organize classes to reflect the diverse needs of the student body including the Scholars Program, engage in parent orientations at the start of each school year in addition to family engagement opportunities every Tuesday to foster parent relationships, and offer a Specialized High School preparation program. To achieve these goals, we cultivate a safe social-emotional learning environment through the implementation of Restorative Practices. Students enjoy Restorative Circles weekly with their peers. An abundance of after-school opportunities are conducted through a partnership with SASF, Monday through Friday. The Student Council has branded our school as the Blue Jays and our proud basketball and cheerleader teams confidently sport that symbol on their uniforms! The 66 Rock Band and the Middle School Urban/Architect artists work in tandem to keep the arts an integral part of the school experience. Finally, 2017 marks the first year that our school will administer the Living Environment Regents.

I.S. 68 is a school that provides its students with a high-quality education that surrounds Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). We are a certified Eco-School and are a part of the Billion Oyster Project. Our students learn about science and technology through our pollinating garden and school-wide air purifying initiative. We pride ourselves on our newly implemented robotics program which uses state-of-the-art equipment and 3-D printing. I.S. 68 has a belief system based on Steven Covey's The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People in which students demonstrate positive behavior by being proactive, setting goals, collaborating, and prioritizing. We have a strong focus on student leadership development which is supported by the Leader in Me program. Students also benefit from various partnerships. For example, through our partnership with Long Island University, students have opportunities to visit colleges and universities around the country.

Overview
Our Performing Arts Program provides students with a strong sense of discipline and responsibility. Our teachers take advantage of the natural curiosity, energy, and enthusiasm of sixth through eighth graders. The program supports students at different levels of maturity and includes a balance of teacher-structured and student-initiated activities. The Performing Arts program provides training for beginning and experienced students in dance, drama, instrumental band, steel pan orchestra, and vocal music. The courses represent a selection of introductory classes together with those that fulfill the needs of highly talented young artists. The curriculum focuses on basic skills, a disciplined manner of inquiry, individual creativity, and good study habits. Students are encouraged to work cooperatively and to share their special gifts and talents.

The Science And Medicine Middle School 366
Overview
The Science and Medicine Middle School (SMMS) uses health and medicine as a lens through which students learn core academic subjects, including mathematics, science, social studies, and English language arts. SMMS equips young people with the knowledge and skills to manage their own health and well-being, advocate for community members, and pursue post-high school education preparing them for careers related to health and wellness. We believe that students can, and should, shape their health, education, professional futures, and communities. To that end, SMMS uses a student-centered approach to learning which highlights student voice and engagement as priorities throughout our school. Through our partnerships with universities, hospitals, and other medical facilities, we enable our students to travel on their life's path to high school, post-secondary education, and careers.

Middle School for Art and Philosophy
Overview
Students at the Middle School for Art and Philosophy (MSAP) engage in a variety of units of instruction throughout the year. Our instruction is concept-based, interdisciplinary, and Common Core-aligned. The infusion of visual arts and applied philosophy courses makes our program unique. Our 21st Century Community Learning Center after-school partnership provides access to the arts through mural painting and a jazz band. We have continued our chorus through a partnership with the Brooklyn Arts Council. Our Elders Share the Arts Program connects students with elders in the community. MSAP students have been invited to perform at The Brooklyn Arts Council's annual fundraiser, the Urban Arts showcase, and a number of other venues. What students like most is that their teachers provide a nurturing environment though a small school structure that holds them accountable for their work and their actions through continuous support and opportunities for improvement.

Middle School of Marketing and Legal Studies
Overview
Students at the Middle School of Marketing and Legal Studies (MLS) are immersed in basic marketing and legal studies coursework that compliments the station based, student centered learning that is aligned with the Common Core standards. Additionally, MLS is the only school in District 18 that offers intense preparation for three out of the five high school Regents exams (Algebra, Living Environment & US History) that students will take at the end of their eighth grade year. Through engagement in events such as our annual college tour or career day, students are exposed to a multitude of opportunities to explore their interests and create college- and career-driven goals. Our community partners provide direct support in navigating the high school application process and helping students gain acceptance into the best-fit schools for themselves. MLS proudly supports the other enrichment activities essential to our student's middle school experience through our monthly spirit days, annual Broadway Jr. productions, and our track program that produces some of the top middle school athletes in the nation. MLS also has a merit system that allows students to accrue merit points towards monthly prizes or the interactive incentive room.

Overview
At the Brooklyn Science and Engineering Academy, we believe that early exposure to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) will support students' overall academic growth, develop their critical-thinking and reasoning skills, and enhance their interest in STEM study and careers. We engage young learners by having them assume the roles of scientists, authors, researchers, engineers, and mathematicians–thus preparing them to compete and succeed in high school, college, and beyond. Hands-on, real-life learning projects will guide instruction and engage our students. Through our partnership with St. John's University, students will have access to STEM-based resources and receive an early college experience. To facilitate the transition from elementary to middle school, we provide a daily advisory class that is grounded in mindfulness, positive behaviors, and goal-setting.

Overview
All students are encouraged to participate in school activities and community service as well as to develop meaningful relationships with adults in our school. Students enjoy the availability of interesting classes and after-school activities. There is an enrichment program to fit each student’s needs. Parents appreciate our various methods of making the home/school connection. We communicate with parents using the school messenger system which notifies parents of school events over the telephone, emails, and mailings. In addition, we provide informational workshops for parents. Parents also enjoy our new Parent Center which is complete with computers, a color printer, and comfortable seating. Our parent coordinator and community assistants are available to demonstrate Skedula, Acuity, and Access web-based programs for families. Parents/Guardians also like our principal’s open door policy, where they have an opportunity to meet with the principal, academy principals, and school staff.

Overview
We follow the EL Education (eleducation.org) model, in which students engage in learning expeditions and have multiple opportunities for hands-on learning. Students participate in fieldwork experiences with experts in a variety of fields (activists, authors, scientists, doctors, etc.) that take them outside of the classroom and give them a chance to experience the concepts they are learning. Students receive a strong background in science, technology, and sustainability and have multiple opportunities after school to apply the ideas learned in class to real-world projects. Parents play a major role in the school, from attending student-led conferences to being chaperones and participants for fieldwork to contributing to various school committees. Students belong to crews, which are small advisory groups with an advisor. Students participate in a four-day wilderness/backpacking adventure.

Overview
Students like our technology-based education. They use their laptops in class to take notes via the use of Google Docs, do research, and create iMovies, PowerPoints, class wikis, and class blogs. Through our Green Magnet Educating for Sustainability curriculum, students are involved in studying about, and taking actions in, their local and global communities. Students also like the wide range of in-class programs and after-school activities we offer. Parents appreciate our parent education classes and the school's communication efforts, including many opportunities for parental involvement. We utilize a web-based communication portal called PupilPath that permits parents and students to track student academic and behavior progress daily and in real-time. Laptops and additional digital devices are utilized in all classrooms. Our school community is diverse, with over 40 nations represented. We have a greenhouse, pollinators' garden, and an organic vegetable garden on our campus.

Overview
Our students like the use of technology in every classroom (laptop carts, ActiveBoards, etc.) and our facilities, which include five gyms (with two basketball courts, a dance/yoga studio, a weight room, and a swimming pool). Parents appreciate the regular communication they receive through email, phone blasts, text messages, and the school's gradebook system. Additionally, online gradebooks show students' grades in real-time, including homework and test scores–parents will also be emailed when a student misses homework. Parents also appreciate the school's frequent college tours, and our partnership with Queens Community House, The City University of New York (CUNY), and numerous Advanced Placement courses.

Overview
Redwood is a small middle school that offers students exciting academic opportunities including STEM coursework, Regents courses in eighth grade, and foreign language. Students are strongly encouraged to sign up for our after-school program which runs from 3:10pm-6pm. During this time, students engage in both academic work and enrichment clubs. Advisory groups work together on identifying school, community, and global issues and creating service learning projects around those issues. Students also participate in week-long mini-courses called Inquiry Explorations. Inquiry Explorations are intended to challenge students through in-depth immersion in compelling topics like stereotypes in fairy tales, forensic science, and photography. These courses will include fieldwork, use of experts, and product development geared towards audiences in and outside of school.

The Young Women's Leadership School, Queens
Overview
The Young Women's Leadership School (TYWLS), Queens is structured to give each young woman individualized attention. We focus on nurturing the academic, social, and developmental growth of our students. We expect our students to go above and beyond the New York City and New York State school graduation requirements as we prepare them for college. Our parents appreciate the personalized attention their family receives. We use PupilPath, a web-based communication system, to inform our parents of their daughter's academic progress. Parents also appreciate the Summer Bridge Enrichment Program for incoming sixth grade students. The Young Women's Leadership Network (YWLN) and the CollegeBound Initiative provide a full-time CollegeBound counselor. Students are immediately exposed to colleges, college fairs, and expectations beginning in sixth grade.

Overview
The Academy for New Americans offers newly arrived immigrant students and their families the opportunity to adjust successfully to their new setting. The program offers a specialized curriculum that facilitates the acquisition of the English language through a one-year programmatic option. Our school is committed to providing the following services to our students: a welcoming climate that is conducive to English language acquisition, a specialized curriculum that focuses on English language proficiency, an environment that promotes self-esteem and addresses the needs of early adolescence, an introduction to the New York City school system, an emphasis on becoming familiar with American culture, computer literacy classes, support services such as counseling and tutoring, and a committed, well-trained staff that guides the students through the transition period as they become acclimated to our multicultural society.
