Overview
We believe in fostering relationships with—and among—our students, challenging them academically, and frequently celebrating their work. Through our advisory discussions, we support our students’ organizational and study skills, provide a space for students to be heard regarding social and emotional challenges, discuss current events, laugh, and play. Students also do independent reading during advisory and teachers’ conference with students about their books on a regular basis. Three times a year, students participate in Exploration, which is a deep, two-week study of one question. Examples include: “Can art change the world?”, “Is our relationship with animals ethical?”, and “What is courage?” Through workshops, guest speakers, and field studies, students come to their own answers. Students complete a creative project and write an editorial in response to the big question. Each exploration culminates in an exposition where students share their work with families and the community.

Overview
At Park Slope Collegiate, we are committed to creating and maintaining a diverse and integrated student body and faculty. We believe that students learn best in a heterogeneous environment where they can compare what they know and think with the knowledge and ideas of adult scholars as well as with the knowledge and ideas of their classmates. Our very small middle school offers students the opportunity to grow and learn with classmates from diverse backgrounds within an engaging setting. Teachers accustomed to heterogeneous classrooms provide students a variety of individual and group learning experiences. Once a week, students meet in circles to strengthen the community of the classroom by learning more about each other, practicing active listening skills, playing group games, and exploring their social and emotional interests. As a 6-12 school, we also guarantee a seat in our high school for any middle school student interested in continuing at Park Slope Collegiate.

Overview
Students benefit from the many ways that our teachers and staff support them. They learn to become empowered thinkers as they develop their creative abilities while striving for academic excellence. Parents value the various ways that teachers and staff encourage and challenge students to exceed their personal best. Parents and students alike appreciate the innovative strategies implemented to teach students' core subjects. For instance, students take the SEP Software Engineering Class that not only improves their computer skills, but mathematics as well. Additionally, there is an emphasis on improving literacy by enriching students' vocabularies and increasing the amount of time that students spend reading.

Overview
At Park Place Community School (M.S. 266), our mission is to create an environment that promotes respect for racial and cultural diversity, to deliver a rigorous academic curriculum, to utilize best practices for middle school education, to utilize community and technological resources to increase opportunities for intellectual and social development, and to develop well-rounded students through participation in the arts. All of our students receive an opportunity to graduate with high school Regents credits in math, science, and foreign language. They also have a personal planner, access to online Jupiter Gradebook to monitor academic progress, a school email address, and opportunities to learn chess and to travel out of the state of New York. In 2013, our students traveled to Washington, DC to witness the presidential inauguration. Our students also travel to Vermont every school year to participate in Farms for City Kids. We offer three distinct programs for our students: STEM Institute, Liberal Arts Institute, and Arts Institute.

The Dock Street School
Overview
Our goal at the Dock Street School is to foster curiosity, independence, and problem solving in young people so that they are able to adapt to an ever-changing and complex world. By providing a rigorous and nurturing college preparatory education with a strong emphasis on science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math (STEAM), we seek to prepare our students to be reflective, lifelong learners. At Dock Street School, students will engage with an authentic STEAM curriculum and work closely with our partners (New York University-STEM Robotics, Brooklyn Bridge Conservancy, St. Ann's Warehouse) on hands-on collaborative projects both during the day and after school. Students will also have access to our state-of-the-art music and dance facilities. Through these enriched academic experiences, students will build upon their existing critical-thinking skills and become decision makers who are able to act responsibly and compassionately toward their communities.

Juan Morel Campos Secondary School
Overview
An education at Juan Morel Campos Secondary School is full of promise. One of our most important promises is that, as a secondary school, we build a seven-year relationship with students and families. Additionally, our small learning communities strengthen bonds within the school community and ensure students a safe transition from middle school to high school. Another important promise is that all students at Campos develop their artistic talents in our rich band, theater, and visual arts programs. We also promise that all students are pushed to excel and prepare for college with the help of teachers, high school students, and a full-time college counselor.

Academy of Arts and Letters
Overview
Arts & Letters students benefit from strong relationships with our faculty and programs that support their growth. Ask them and they'll tell you: "You'll work hard here, but it is worth it!" and "The teachers know us so well and challenge us every day!" Each student has an advisor who gets to know the family very well through various communications and events. Online grading, high academic expectations, and lots of community events make Arts & Letters a great place for students and their families.

Urban Assembly Institute of Math and Science for Young Women (M.S. 527)
Overview
The Urban Assembly Institute of Math and Science (UAI) takes a holistic approach to educating our young women, ensuring they possess all skills needed for success. Our rigorous and innovative curriculum inspires students to challenge stereotypes that currently exist for women in math and science, and builds their persistence in the pursuit of learning to leave them well-equipped to graduate from college. We teach our young women to navigate adolescence and beyond through classes like social-emotional learning, health, and financial literacy. Our partnership with Girls Inc. of NYC encourages our students to be strong, smart, and bold through field trips and free after school and Summer programming. As a Girls Inc. of NYC partner school, our students gain exposure to a variety of mentors and careers, as well as additional arts and athletic activities including step, computer coding, and guitar courses. UAI graduates are not only accepted into college, but also complete it due to their varied experiences in and outside the classroom.

Overview
Middle School 50 is located in the Southside of the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. M.S. 50 has partnered with El Puente, a nationally-renowned community human rights organization, to create a new community school. Our mission at M.S. 50 is to promote youth leadership through academics, arts, athletics, and activism and to empower student voice by providing opportunities for students to engage in inquiry-based and project-based learning. In all content areas, students at M.S. 50 are taught to make evidenced-based arguments and to justify their opinions using persuasive academic language. In addition to receiving a rigorous academic education, M.S. 50 students will be able to select from a rich variety of enrichment activities (debate, spoken word, video game design, marching band, drumline, robotics, theater, art, photography, social action, dance, sports, chess, and more) and academic advancement opportunities during our Expanded Learning Time.

Overview
At P.S./M.S. 84, students become lifelong learners. Our diverse, child-centered environment fosters self-confidence and mutual respect. Working closely with parents and with Williamsburg's talented community, we nurture the social, emotional, and educational lives of all students. In 2016, P.S./M.S. 84 opened a 1,500-square foot hydroponic rooftop greenhouse laboratory to provide students with opportunities for hands-on learning and problem solving in real-world scenarios. The greenhouse laboratory allows for exploration in multiple disciplines, including environmental sciences, engineering, the arts, health sciences, and economics. The greenhouse classroom also focuses students on issues of global concern, including climate change, efficient use of resources, building greener cities, and growing a secure and healthy food supply. The addition of our rooftop greenhouse classroom will enhance our STEAM Curriculum (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics).

The Benjamin Franklin Magnet School for Civic Leadership in Health and Science (P.S./I.S. 157)
Overview
As a Leader in Me school, and through partnerships with the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, BEAM Center (Engineering), Common Threads (Culinary Arts), Urban Advantage (Science Inquiry), Prospect Park Zoo, Engine 211/Ladder 119 of the FDNY, Woodhull Hospital (Health), and Heights and Hills, P.S./I.S. 157 is a school where we believe our scholars learn by doing. We are a pre-K through eighth grade school with a concentration on student leadership, health, engineering, and science. We focus on project-based learning —creating products from wood and clay to solve problems, growing greens for salads for our cafeteria in our state-of-the-art hydroponics lab, and coding to bring robots to life (just to name a few). We are a dual-language school with a passion for science in the public interest. We train our scholars in STEAM-related fields and we're proud that our scholars are inventors, builders, dreamers, leaders, and doers.

Overview
M.S. 582, the Magnet School for Multimedia Technology and Urban Planning, offers students a rigorous academic experience across content areas grounded in UNESCO's four pillars for the 21st Century: Learning to know; Learning to do; Learning to be; and Learning to live together. M.S. 582 students will graduate with a digital portfolio of projects that include performance-based assessments, academic unit projects, community projects, digital photography, video clips, writing pieces, and reflection essays. Our teachers guide students as they engage in hands-on projects in our state-of-the-art MAC computer lab and fabrication lab that supports web design, arts portfolios, animation, robotics, coding, woodworking, architecture design modeling, clay work, 3-D print modeling, and urban planning. In our Greenhouse classroom students are growing fresh salad and colorful flowers. M.S. 582 students have the opportunity to work with our partners at the BEAM Center, Salvadori Center, BRIC Media Arts, NYSunworks, CUNY CityTech, and Pratt Institute. All of our specialized programming, including The Leader in Me, is designed with college- and career-readiness in mind and preparing our scholars to get accepted into the specialized high schools in NYC.

Lyons Community School
Overview
Our staff care about our students as individuals and learners, working hard to make school a positive, successful experience for them. Students benefit from exciting learning opportunities, such as weekly field studies trips, science projects, visual arts, and creative writing activities. Families appreciate our small environment where students get individual support, dance, arts, technology, and an array of learning experiences. Families also appreciate how our teachers work together with them to support their children. Students have advisory every day, which includes a dedicated adviser who makes ongoing contact with their advisee. Lyons is a Restorative Justice school, meaning that when a student harms the community, the expectation is that the consequence be focused on restoring the community and growing from the experience. We want our students to learn to be more thoughtful, curious, well-rounded, and compassionate people. As a secondary school, students can stay through high school. We are part of the NYS Performance Standards Consortium, which means students do extensive essays, experiments, and presentations instead of most Regents. Students call teachers by their first name and do not wear uniforms.

The Walter Crowley Intermediate School (I.S. 5)
Overview
At I.S. 5, we talk like scholars, write like experts, think like innovators, and live like leaders. Students appreciate that I.S. 5 provides them with a nurturing learning environment which is focused on developing their academic, emotional, and social needs. They also enjoy the smaller learning environments our communities provide as they can readily communicate with administrators and/or teachers as it relates to their growth. I.S. 5 consists of four learning communities commonly referred to as Community of Scholars, Community of Leaders, Community of Innovators, and Community of Leaders. Our school community is currently engaging in opportunities for project-based learning, with hands-on projects that highlight the importance of global citizenship and the legacies of our contributions in the community at large. We are building student socio- emotional growth through the incorporation of Leader in Me, based on the work of Franklin Covey. Teachers utilize Mastery Connect and Skedula to track student progress, drive instruction, and communicate with parents on a daily basis.

Overview
Students in our school are fully immersed in differentiated instruction that targets their individual learning needs. Students are able to select up to two talent activities each school year. I.S. 61 has created five academies within the main school that foster a nurturing environment for our students. Each academy is set up with its own dean, guidance counselor, assistant principal, and staff of teachers, therefore creating a small learning community. Parents are also able to track their child’s progress for each unit through a special Engrade account. To support our efforts to assist students in meeting the standards for college- and career-readiness, parents have an option to select our AGP program for their child. Students are expected to maintain an 85 GPA as well as take all Regents offered by the school. Programs are also available for parents of our school community, including English as a New Language (ENL), GED, and fitness programs.

Overview
We are a diverse school community that is divided into five small learning communities called academies. Each of these academies serves as a smaller school within our building to help create and foster a nurturing environment for the students they house. We have done this by assigning each academy its own assistant principal, dean, guidance counselor, and staff of teachers. Each academy is geographically located in a specific area of the building and has its own lunch and assembly periods. In order to provide students with an opportunity to become active members of the school community, I.S. 73's Student Council has been established to enhance school spirit and to improve the overall student experience. These students are elected to one-year positions and serve as representatives of their grade level as well as their homeroom class. Student Council members are responsible for discussing school-wide concerns and activities during the year. In addition, our school provides all eighth graders the opportunity to take the Specialized High School Exam in school during the school day at I.S. 73. Kaplan provides free test prep prior to the exam for all of our students who choose to sit for the exam.

Overview
Located on the 32-acre Frank Padavan Campus, P.S./I.S. 266 is a barrier-free building that offers a Common Core standards-based curriculum in all content areas. Students thrive in a nurturing setting where they build a strong personal connection that facilitates student achievement while meeting their emotional and social needs. The cornerstones of this atmosphere are rooted in developing: a community of learners where students, parents, and staff seek to expand their knowledge; building leadership capacity where all constituencies develop ownership of the school's mission, vision, and educational process; a collegial environment that emphasizes the learning process through sharing of knowledge, strategies, and methodologies; a school of philosophers where pertinent questions are asked ensuring vitality and growth. Our academic environment is one of great rigor, offering a range of honors courses in grades seven and eight, and a variety of special programs including Chess Club, CHAMPS, Real Heroes program, Youth Alive, Legion of Leaders, Debate Team, Tri-M, Drama Club Grades 6-8, Extravaganza Grades K-5, and Festival Choir Grades 5-8.

Overview
I.S. 77 is a family of learners. We offer programs for special progress and honors, English as a New Language, and special education. We offer Spanish, with differentiation for native speakers. Each classroom is equipped with a laptop, a projector with a document camera, and speakers. There are opportunities for students to become involved in community outreach programs. We celebrate a Student of the Month based on virtues. We have a partnership with the Greater Ridgewood Youth Council who sponsors an after-school program which offers homework help, sports, and recreation in our school. We also work with the Youth Council in their young adult internship program which benefits many of our graduates. Our PTA is very active and encourages all parents to be a part of our family of learners. Through the use of the internet program PupilPath, parents and teachers are able to communicate with each other regarding grades and assignments.

Overview
It is our mission to educate our children, not only academically, but through a core foundation of knowledge that includes the arts, technology, and the ability to accept individual differences as assets rather than hindrances. It is our hope that our students will recognize social injustices, speak out against inequities, and value humanity so that when they take over our society they are caring, empathetic people who will advocate for the goodness of all mankind.

Overview
Whether it's sports, field trips, personalized learning or curricula rich in reading, writing, and authentic thinking, P.S./I.S. 102Q has all the programs you'd expect from an excellent school. But these programs are not the main reasons why our students achieve. Our students achieve because they understand the greater purpose requiring them to do so: to serve others. Think for yourself; care for others. It's what we do at P.S./I.S. 102.

Though a large school, we provide a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment through our small learning communities. Students are divided into four houses with a dedicated assistant principal, guidance counselor, and dean. I.S. 125 offers an extensive arts program. Day and evening performances are offered throughout the school year. I.S. 125 has a unique accelerated program which provides the opportunity for gifted students to sit for Regents exams. Students graduate from I.S. 125 fully prepared for high school and, by extension, college and their career. Parents are an integral part of the I.S. 125 community. They are valued members of the School Leadership Team, PTA, and various other committees. We hold evening events, including a multicultural show and dinner. Overview
Our students love our small-school feel. Our goal is to continue to create small learning communities where every adult knows your name. This allows our student body to understand that their teachers are tuning in and making decisions based on their individual needs as learners. Students are exposed to multiple arts disciplines. Parents and families of our students appreciate our open communication and dialogue with our staff regarding the needs and next steps of their children. Because of our small size, parents and families are able to participate in many student activities, performances, and parent workshop sessions. Students in our school begin sixth grade with a focus on taking Regents courses and/or the Language Proficiency Exam upon completion of eighth grade. In addition, they participate in hands-on learning that takes them beyond the walls of the classroom.

Overview
A dedicated staff and small school environment offer individualized social, emotional, and academic support. Queens Valley School offers all students high quality, differentiated instruction to prepare them for high school as well as college and/or a career. We value our technology program which includes SMART Boards, computers, and a state of the art lab. We offer an accelerated Regents program to all eligible eighth grade students. Our web-based programs include Castle Learning, Ed Performance, GoMath, Code X, Flocabulary, and MyOn Reading. Our Talent program provides students with an innovative and in-depth study in visual arts, dance, drama, vocal music, and video production. In addition, we have added a Talent track in coding and publishing; this provides our students with an opportunity to develop skills in STEM, computer programming, and graphic design. It is a vibrant program that strives to encourage and facilitate an enriched and creative environment. Our teachers model their artistic process with commitment to scaffold instruction. We have had students place as both finalists and semifinalists in the P.S. Art city-wide competition since its inception 10 years ago.

Overview
We ensure our students are prepared for college and 21st Century careers. Our teachers provide support and enrichment in an inquiry-based environment. We incorporate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) into the curriculum through our Collaborative Learning Program and Software Engineering Pilot. Students experience an interdisciplinary approach to learning through residency programs with Arts Connection, Silk Road Connect, and other cultural partners. Our students participate in engaging field trips, artist visits, and performances, and have won awards in science, math, robotics, art, spelling, and athletic competitions. We partner with Asia Society and Confucius Classrooms to provide our students with cultural experiences, and we offer Chinese language instruction and a dual language program. Parents are integral to our school community and they are invited to participate in activities and take on leadership roles. Daily communication between parents and our school is facilitated via our interactive website and Pupil Path online system.

Overview
J.H.S. 189 provides opportunities for young people to be engaged in social action/community service projects. In this context, students identify problems as well as needs and seek solutions that make a difference. To that end, every person at J.H.S. 189 is involved in a year-long community service project. Giving back to the community is a core belief in our school’s culture. As a result, we have approximately 42 social action projects every year.

Overview
J.H.S. 194 aims to educate children holistically by challenging all students academically, encouraging student voice, and supporting self-expression through a diverse fine and performing arts department, which includes: fine art, concert band, theater, film and media, dance, and photography. J.H.S. 194 strives to support students academically, socially, and emotionally through our grade-level academies, each with a dean, an assistant principal, and two shared guidance counselors. We house a Beacon program on-site which expands the choice of after-school activities for students. Our fine and performing arts department collaborates with numerous arts agencies throughout the city, including: New York City Center, Flushing Town Hall, Jazz from Lincoln Center, Magic Box, and the Leap Program. We have student council in every grade and encourage students to be active members in the planning of school events. We believe parental involvement is essential to student success. We welcome open communication with our families and host a variety of events throughout the year.

The Magnet School of Global Studies & Leadership (P.S./M.S. 200)
Overview
We are now The Magnet School of Global Studies & Leadership. Our students study nations and cultures from around the world and they explore ways in which they can become leaders and effect global change. In class, students have daily access to laptops and iPads to support their learning. Our curriculum emphasizes the use of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education to make the world a better place. We are a unique school because we are small, but we span grades PK-8. Middle school students engage in challenging lessons with each other each day, but they also act as mentors for younger students in the building. Our motto is: "200 Cares." We strive to build and maintain a caring school environment where all students feel welcome and supported. Middle school students engage in two semesters of enrichment electives each year, including topics like chess, media studies, yoga, comedic improvisation, journalism, community service, and sign language. In addition to the core academic subjects, we offer Spanish, Visual Arts, Drama, and Physical Education three times per week. We also invite middle school students to participate in sports and dance before school and to attend our free, daily after-school program.

Overview
We are proud of our school. Teachers, students, and families are dedicated. We practice the concept of social justice which we translate to mean Equity Access, maximum inclusion for all. This is reflected in how we build our classes, organize all activities, and ensure that every student has access to all the school has to offer. Nearly all of our students take two Regents and our high passing rate reflects high expectations and high achievement for all students. The process starts for many of our students in pre-K and we welcome new students all along the way to eighth grade graduation! Parents appreciate how our school provides a challenging curriculum within a small learning community that promotes positive behavior. Our collaborative teams work together to set goals, to plan for effective instruction, and to monitor and assess student performance. The skills and strategies that students gain enable them to attain success and reach their potential. Our skilled staff supports families in many ways. Parents feel that the school creates a physically and emotionally secure environment in which everyone can focus on student learning. A quick visit to the school will reveal the family feel most visitors notice when they are here.

Overview
I.S. 237 provides a robust and supportive middle school experience and, at the same time, promotes college and career readiness in multiple ways. Our strong academic program includes Special Progress (SP) courses on each grade level. Eighth grade SP students take Regents exams in Algebra, US History & Government, Earth Science, and Living Environment, as well as the Spanish Proficiency exam. Many students go on to attend Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, and Brooklyn Tech. English language learners receive instruction before, after, and during the school day as well as on Saturdays. All students receive instruction in visual arts, band, strings, or chorus. Our extended day programs include academic tutoring, basketball, musical theater, guitar, keyboard, and art. Our Debate and Math teams have won multiple district-, borough-, and city-wide tournaments. SONYC, a free after-school program, offers homework help and recreational activities Monday through Friday from 2:20pm-5pm, Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5pm-6:30pm, and is open during most school holidays. We welcome parent involvement at all times.

The Queens School of Inquiry
Overview
Students like the warm-yet-demanding teachers who challenge and engage them. They profit from their early exposure to the campus, courses, and professors at Queens College and find a wide variety of friends here. The Queens School of Inquiry (QSI) is a neighborhood school that works with Queens College (QC) beginning in the sixth grade so that students may earn up to 60 free QC credits in high school. Parents appreciate the personal contact with their child's teachers and with the principal.

East-West School of International Studies
Overview
We prepare students for college and career. We are a small, inclusive school supporting all students with two teachers in many core classes and a Nest program for students with autism, with one teacher per thirteen students allowing significant individual support. Students take math and ELA seven times a week and a language: Japanese (sixth grade), Korean (seventh grade), and Chinese (eighth grade). A robust environment embraces our four pillars: honor, excellence, curiosity, and celebration. We promote a positive, safe school atmosphere by encouraging acts of kindness through a nation-wide anti-bullying program: Rachel's Challenge. Friendships grow in our many clubs, advisory, and student government. Our parent coordinator keeps parents informed through bi-weekly postcards, a newsletter, and First Fridays. Assignments, grades, and attendance are available on Skedula. Our 6-12 model transitions students from middle school to high school and on to college. We are a Reward School with scores in the top 5% in all of New York State.

World Journalism Preparatory: A College Board School
Overview
Our students like the opportunities we present for self-directed learning and enjoy being active participants in our school culture. They also enjoy using technology across the curriculum. Parents value our project-based learning activities and our focus on journalism. They also appreciate that our seven-year curriculum carries students through a challenging, yet personalized, middle and high school program. Students run their own broadcast news show (The Highlight). Each student creates an online portfolio of his/her best academic work and they participate in student-led Portfolio Review Conferences. Everyone has a World Journalism Preparatory School (WJPS) email account. It is expected that students come to WJPS for a 7-year program (grades 6-12). Our middle school prepares students to succeed in our high school which is very academic and rigorous.

Overview
BELL Academy is proudly recognized as a Schoolwide Enrichment Model. Following Dr. Renzulli's Schoolwide Enrichment Model allows us to place a strong focus on challenging our students in real world project-based learning, while taking their unique gifts and talents into consideration. With the support of talented and dedicated staff, all students are encouraged to develop their unique profile of talents. Students can experience up to three interactive Enrichment Clusters each year. Some of the Enrichment Clusters offered are Drama, Young Entrepreneurs, Projects for Peace, Future Community Leaders, Film, Healthy Living, and String Ensemble. Instructional technology is leveraged in meaningful ways to enhance student learning. All students have access to laptops, iPads, and SMART Board technology in every classroom. Our talented teachers engage our students in complex tasks and include components of STEAM learning to ensure students are best prepared for college, careers, and beyond. Students and families enjoy our small, nurturing environment, which allows parents and teachers to work collaboratively to provide optimum learning conditions for all students.

Overview
Students at Dreyfus Intermediate School take pride in our strong focus in technology in our classrooms as well as our expanded Arts programs. Our seventh-grade students have the opportunity to participate in a year-long technology-based College and Career Readiness course that centers on career exploration, financial literacy, and computer applications. In eighth grade, students have the opportunity to participate in an elective course that teaches coding and game design. Dreyfus Intermediate is also a participant in the iZone where students take Spanish and Integrated Algebra in an online environment. The learning environment at Dreyfus gives students an opportunity to work with skilled, flexible, and committed teachers and administrators. Students also appreciate that they are able to communicate with the entire school community through the school's independent website Berta49.org. At Dreyfus Intermediate we believe that higher expectations lead to higher learning.
