Overview
Michelangelo Middle School is where students begin their quest for excellence. Our students learn how to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, decision makers, and caring, ethical citizens. In addition, our students are prepared for high school and college by our special emphasis on the Common Core Learning Standards. Michelangelo has an active Parent Association that works with our parent coordinator to communicate with parents about various events, including student celebrations, school plays/concerts, Honor Roll breakfasts, Honor Society Night, and Family Nights. In addition, parents and students can view upcoming assignments on teacher web pages as well as monitor their child's progress via PupilPath. Parents are guided in the high school application process by our guidance counselors. Our graduates have been accepted into many of NYC's specialized high schools.

Overview
We are dedicated to providing students with an engaging and rigorous learning experience to which they have a voice in creating. We are committed to collaborating to determine the specific academic and cultural needs of our students and to designing innovative ways to challenge students at all levels. Through this work, we are preparing students for the 21st century and holding them accountable for ownership of their academic success. At our school, we value the importance of literacy as a pathway to success in all areas of life. As a result, we integrate strategic-reading periods (reading clubs) into our weekly program. Three times per week, students participate in reading clubs that are tailored to their individual reading levels and needs. We believe in the importance of personal ownership and accountability along with the development of social capital during the middle school years. At our school, all students engage in advisory coursework which provides students with opportunities to discuss difficult social scenarios as well as learn how to maneuver through them successfully. Through our student government students develop their decision-making skills while positively impacting the school community.

Overview
At Bronx Green, our primary goal is to effectively collaborate and prepare every student with the skills and knowledge to become exceptional learners and leaders. Further, we provide an environment conducive to learning in which every student can advance academically, socially, and emotionally. Families enjoy numerous opportunities to participate in their children's educational accomplishments through end-of-unit celebrations, parent workshops, Honor Roll breakfast ceremonies, Broadway shows, local MLB and NBA games, and end-of-the-year Museum Night. We offer all incoming sixth graders the opportunity to attend our Summer Summit program. The goal of the program is to acclimate students and families to the middle school experience and unique opportunities at Bronx Green. All students have access to technology based instruction via the use of Chromebooks, iPads, iPad Minis, two fully equipped computer labs, and SMART Boards. Through our College Access for All affiliation, our students enjoy the college experience by visiting colleges/universities located in- and out-of-state.

Overview
We believe education is the great equalizer and that knowledge brings about opportunity, voice, and joy. Teachers have the ability to mold and influence the lives of each child to be a successful member of our society. We believe that, given the right opportunities and guidance, all children can strive toward excellence! Students like our school because we have a hands-on, task-based learning environment that encourages collaboration and discussion. Students enjoy learning in our classrooms that have a studio feel with areas for station work, independent study, and conferring. In our school, students are full participants in their own learning under the guidance of teachers and staff. Our parents appreciate the level of support that their children receive through our programs. Parents recognize our commitment to preparing each student for high school, college, and beyond.

Bronx Alliance Middle School
Overview
School Motto: "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together!"—African Proverb. We are a college preparatory, community school with a strong academic program and diverse enrichment activities suited for college-minded scholars. Our values-driven academic and advisory programs emphasize persistence, accountability, communication, and teamwork—qualities we know are important for academic and personal success. Because of our college-prep focus, all scholars must manage a heavy workload and attend our Expanded Learning Time program, making for a longer school day. In all, we provide learning and enrichment activities for scholars that, for some, begin as early as 7:45am and end at 9pm. We also provide weekend programming as well. Our doors are always open! We are also excited about our dynamic Advisory program that ensures a personal and academic mentor for every scholar. Advisors work with scholars and families to not only ensure academic success but social and emotional success as well. Bronx Alliance is a hard-working school, committed to providing every scholar an amazing middle school experience. At Bronx Alliance, we are family—we love each other, we love our work, and we are going far together!

Leaders of Tomorrow
Overview
The community of leaders at Leaders of Tomorrow is dedicated to personal and academic excellence. Choosing to live in the community obligates each member to a code of civilized behavior. Allegiance to these ideals requires each of our students to refrain from and discourage behaviors which threaten the freedom and respect every individual deserves. Each student at our school is considered a leader and as such we expect them to adhere to the following creed: "A Leader practices personal and academic integrity. A Leader respects the rights and property of others. A Leader will discourage bigotry, while striving to learn from differences in people, ideas, and opinions. A Leader will demonstrate concern for others, their feelings, and their needs for conditions that support their work and development."

Cornerstone Academy for Social Action (CASA)
Overview
Our school provides a holistic learning environment dedicated to developing 21st Century skills. Our curriculum focuses on intellectual, social, and emotional development, as well as left-, right-, and whole-brain activities. We encourage students to work collaboratively, think critically, solve problems, analyze and synthesize information, practice adaptability, be curious, and build communication skills. Our teachers use Socratic seminars, performance tasks, project-based learning, technology, and traditional methods of teaching. Teachers check for understanding multiple times during instruction, as well as at the end of a lesson. There are weekly and bi-weekly assessments, and evaluations given every six to eight weeks under state testing conditions. Projects and performance tasks allow students to transfer their skills into a product. Academic intervention services are provided in core subjects. The level of rigor allows our students to have success in high school, college, and beyond.

Overview
At Pelham Academy students learn to work hard, support each other, and celebrate their success. Through regular and consistent work with their teachers and advisors, students are taught how to analyze situations and recognize what is in their best interest. Students begin to explore their interests in the sixth grade, and continue that journey through eighth grade. Throughout their time here they will have the opportunity to participate in high school and college visits, to create art portfolios, and prepare for the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test. Our collective goal is to help mold our children into reflective young men and women who are prepared to be competitive in high school, college, and beyond. Our students are provided with the environment and support they need in order to learn, develop, and mature. Our learning community consists of everyone and anyone who can impact the lives and futures of our children.

Cypress Hills Community School (P.S./I.S. 89)
Overview
Cypress Hills Community School (CHCS) is a small, community-based, dual-language school where students learn in Spanish and English. The school's mission is for all students to become fully bilingual and bi-cultural, and to be deeply concerned about themselves and each other, their community, and the world. We offer native language instruction to all students, including: Spanish language arts, content area instruction in Spanish, and targeted tutoring groups during the school day and after school. The small environment allows students to develop positive relationships with their teachers, where they benefit from both academic and emotional support. CHCS has developed a philosophy guided by Project CARE (Communication, Accountability, Respect, and Effort). These core values provide a common language we believe is necessary for fostering and maintaining a peaceful and productive environment.

Overview
Students have the opportunity to use local field sites such as the New York Botanical Gardens, the Bronx River, and NYC parks to hone their observational, research, and data collection skills. Our partnership with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine allows students to work closely with medical staff in researching the history, causes, and impact of specific health issues within the community. Parents appreciate our strong Parent/School Connections, which provide opportunities to collaborate with teachers, students, and partners to enhance student learning. Our “Learn and Serve” philosophy encourages our students to become responsible citizens, able to solve problems and help their surrounding community. Students are offered an education that includes a solid foundation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and that provides role models through close association with our Parent Learning Partners and community-based organization partners.

One World Middle School At Edenwald
Overview
One World is a small school committed to understanding who our ambassadors are in order to teach them. We support our ambassadors in developing as lifelong learners by working with them to develop their character, intellect, wellness, and a desire for lifelong learning. Ambassador and class accomplishments are recognized and celebrated! Some of our most successful clubs have been founded by our ambassadors—our Tech Team produces videos for school assemblies to showcase school highlights. Other opportunities include attending multi-day trips to various universities and historical sites. Similar to the United Nations charter, all cultures are celebrated at One World Middle School—real issues are discussed and we provide an ongoing platform for dialogue. Leaders, activists, and ambassadors have a common thread in that they communicate clearly and appropriately for the audience and message. For these reasons, the areas of writing, speaking, and listening are carefully nurtured. We weave real-world applications into our academic curriculum to connect classroom lessons to real-world issues, problems, and situations. Our high expectations are balanced by support and accountability to ensure ambassadors reach their fullest potential.

Overview
Students enjoy our classroom projects where they take on the role of experts in many different career fields and attempt to solve the problems that challenge our community, country, and world. Students also enjoy our advisory groups where they work with a small group of other students and an adviser to discuss important personal issues, explore NYC, and develop our school's core values. Students love our enrichment and extracurricular activities. Parents like our online grade book that allows for instant access to teachers, grades, and student behavior reports. Parents enjoy our many project celebrations where students present their projects and receive awards for their hard work. Parents also like our Brain Pump programs that allow for students to get extra help, make up work, and even expand their learning. The five core values at Bronx Park are: professionalism, reflection, innovation, determination, and empathy.

Overview
Welcome to I.S. 171, Home of the Lincoln Scholar. Overview
The mission of J.H.S. 292 is to create a secure environment that embraces each student's individual talents and maximizes his or her potential. Our programs assist in preparing students for higher education while developing their sense of responsibility and building self-esteem. In our quest to produce successful young adults, we have created an open-door policy where teachers, parents, and students work side by side on academics and life experiences to further the growth of students. This is done by the implementation and sustenance of mentoring groups and Student Council, all of which focus on fostering leadership potential, community service, and helping students gain the world view that they need. Parents are impressed by the fact that we offer a performing arts component where each child has the opportunity to participate in an elective that will complement their academics, making them well-rounded citizens.

Academy for Young Writers
Overview
Academy for Young Writers is a supportive, sixth through twelfth grade community school focused on college & career readiness. In 2012, we relocated to a new building, equipped with state-of-the-art technology. We use an individualized approach to help every child succeed academically & personally. In addition to rigorous core classes, students take courses in musical theater, dance, computer science, technology, band, and foreign language. Every year, writing courses craft original works of writing that are published in grade-wide collections. Students also have the opportunity to attend field trips, overnight nature trips, and college trips. We offer a variety of after-school activities. We practice a restorative justice model, teaching students how to talk about and deescalate conflicts. We build community in small advisory groups to allow students and staff to develop relationships and the advisor is the point-of-contact for parents—the first staff member students reach out to when they need support. Parents can view their student's grades online. We have an active Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Parents appreciate the ease to which they can communicate with teachers, advisors, and administration about students' progress.

Spring Creek Community School
Overview
At Spring Creek Community School (SCCS), a grade six through twelve school opened in 2012, students engage in project-based curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking, questioning, and problem-solving. Arts and technology are integrated into daily instruction, and students are programmed for additional math and literacy periods to support their success across the curriculum. Students benefit from enrichment electives and school-based partnerships with arts and academic organizations. All classrooms are equipped with SMART Boards, document cameras, and multiple computers. Students are in an advisory that provides each child with social, emotional, and academic supports. Advisors support students throughout middle school, and build long-term relationships with families. Parents appreciate our focus on collaboration and communication, and all parents are registered with an online account, which gives them access to student progress reports and allows them to contact teachers directly. In order to support our six through twelve model, students who attend SCCS in middle school are strongly encouraged to continue their education in our high school.

Overview
Our students enjoy that their classes are organized into small communities. Students can choose from a variety of after-school activities to spark their interest and make them excited to come to school. Students like that their teachers find out about students' interests and use them to plan their lessons. For example, teachers might use sports to help teach math and forensics in science. Parents appreciate our school's focus on college and career success. With our small class sizes, and readily available teachers, we give individual attention to our students in order to build their character and academic ability. Parents like our commitment to keeping them informed about their child's progress through our online grading system. We integrate technology into school life as much as possible in order to enhance our instruction.

Overview
Our students love the ability to work as real writers, readers, historians, scientists, and mathematicians. Classes involve small group and individual assignments, as well as interactive projects. Advisory, electives, and one-on-one coaching gives students the chance to develop their own learning plans and try new activities. Parents love the one-on-one attention that each student receives in his/her academic coaching sessions. Parents also love that we develop independent and resilient thinkers who are prepared for the demands of high school and beyond. We partner with our sister school, The School of the Future in Manhattan.

Overview
Our scholars enjoy the individual attention they receive at East New York Middle School of Excellence (ENYMSE). At ENYMSE, our motto is "Success Without Excuses," and our scholars are held to that expectation every day. Scholars are able to pursue their education in a nurturing environment. Our school just completed construction of a state-of-the-art science lab. Scholars experience STEM units in both math and science courses. We enrich these programs through strategic partnerships and trips for our scholars. All of our scholars are involved in an array of clubs and teams allowing them to explore pursuits outside of their academic interest. Our after-school program enriches their experience through academics, sports, and the arts. Parents like the small school experience where each student has a STAR coach (advisor). We are committed to a strong parent-school partnership. We invite you to join our school community and find out why ENYMSE is Brooklyn's best-kept secret.

Highland Park Community School
Overview
The mission of Highland Park Community School (HPCS) is to cultivate empowered leaders and bold thinkers that create innovative solutions to problems locally and globally. Each grade has a real-world, project-based theme through which all instruction is connected. Students like these projects because they provide opportunities to tackle important social issues, make a difference in their community, be creative, and have fun while they apply new skills. Our scholars benefit from rigorous, exploratory instruction that prepares them for the best high schools and provides the foundation needed for college and career. Our advisory program supports students' social and emotional needs, and guides them as they develop and act on Individual Goal Plans (IGPs) focused on academic and personal goals. We encourage parent involvement that goes beyond attending PTA meetings-family members are encouraged to join us on field trips, volunteer, participate in projects, and support our initiatives.

Intermediate School 78: The School of Architectural Design & Innovative Technology
Overview
At I.S. 78, The School for Architectural Design and Innovative Technology, our mission is to provide all students with engaging, rigorous, and technology-based learning opportunities which align with the Common Core Learning Standards. All classrooms are air-conditioned and feature a 65-inch LED flat panel SMART Board. Our students enjoy personalized attention from our dedicated grade teams. Every student has access to a full-time academic counselor, a vibrant and diverse arts program, and meaningful after-school activities. Teachers utilize online academic enrichment programs (Achieve3000 & Waggle Math), to collect data that informs instruction, which leads to improved ELA and math skills. Through our Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM), students develop skills, foster positive relationships, and experience social growth. Our enrichment clusters, as well as our embedded organizational skills program, promote creativity and collaboration, in support of college- and career- readiness and community service. In partnership with staff, families, and the community, we foster the emotional, social, and intellectual growth of our students, in order to prepare them to reach their full academic potential and become outstanding citizens.

Overview
The M.S. 379 community will work collaboratively, as partners, to engage students in rigorous learning opportunities preparing them for high school and beyond. Our expectations are that students will grow global competency and develop academic skills and knowledge necessary to address shared global challenges as they become productive members of our local community and global society. We aim to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young adults. The knowledge and skills students gain in our school will empower them to become active, compassionate lifelong learners. Our students explore content through challenging project based and self-directed learning models and make connections to our local and global communities. M.S. 379 is opening in a new building for the first time in Fall of 2018. The building name chosen by the community is the College Point Collaborative School of Leadership and Innovation. Those themes will be reflected in the culture of the new school. Student activities and electives will be decided with input from the community and the interests of the entering sixth grade class.

Overview
P.S./I.S. 206 is a multi-cultural school with approximately 1,500 students, 360 of which are in our middle school. Students have the opportunity for engaging discussions centered on critical thinking. Staff and administrators know students by their names and support their individual needs. Parents often want their child to attend our school because they feel confident that their child is in a safe and highly rigorous school. Students enjoy a healthy balance of strong academic instruction along with opportunities to develop their strengths in technology and the arts. Community service is a staple of our school and students enjoy the rewards of helping others. One of the most coveted positions is that of a student mentor where middle school students are able to support elementary students both academically and socially. SMART Boards, digital projectors, iPads, personal Androids, and over 200 new wireless laptops ensure that our students are ready for the technology-driven future.

Overview
Marine Park J.H.S., located within the beautiful surroundings of Marine Park, provides a nurturing school environment where students develop college- and career-readiness through high level academics, various arts programs, and technology. Tech is infused into all of our classrooms through the use of SMART Boards, laptops, iPads, and e-readers. Students research skills on building and design which they explore through our award-winning STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) programs. Students also discover their talents through our arts programs. Marine Park embraces the comfort of our students in a fully air-conditioned building including all classrooms, the gymnasium, the cafeteria, and the auditorium. Parents and teachers enjoy a close relationship. There are multiple opportunities for correspondence including emails, PupilPath, School Messenger, phone calls, SLT, PA meetings, and parent workshops.

Overview
We believe that a well-rounded individual, passionate about learning and committed to his or her talents, is best prepared for the demands of the modern career landscape. Through the approach of the Schoolwide Enrichment Model, the staff of M.S. 890 is committed to creating an engaging, supportive, and rigorous learning environment for everyone. Students choose an enrichment cohort and work side-by-side with their peers to dive deeply into their selected content area. Through guest speakers, field trips, and authentic learning tasks, students become experts in their selected field and work towards a culminating capstone project in senior year, during which they solve a self-identified problem or question and present their findings to the community. As a result, students grow as independent thinkers and apply what they learn to devise solutions that have a positive impact on their world. In addition, we offer opportunities for students to pursue their interests in sports, music, drama, clubs, foreign language, and writing—both during and after school. Parents have a voice in school-based decisions via the School Leadership Team, Parent Association, fundraising, and our varied parent engagement events.

Overview
We focus on providing our students with a challenging and global education while meeting the emotional, creative, and social needs of all students. We focus on critical thinking and problem solving through interactive literacy and math activities, enhanced through an integration of the arts into the core curriculum. Parents are actively involved in their children's education and we share the joys of watching our children grow, learn new skills, and make friends. We implement the Renzulli Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM) in all grades and include parent talent, community volunteers, and experts from the community in developing an enrichment curriculum. By addressing the needs of all students, including our students with special needs, English Language Learners, and gifted students, the SEM Model engages all of the children in visual, musical, spatial, and kinesthetic activities through their interests and talents thereby enabling them to enhance their academic potential.

Overview
At P.S./I.S. 127 we will work collaboratively to promote the social and emotional growth of all students and cultivate self-motivated lifelong learners who are college and career ready. Our shared vision is to inspire students to pursue their dreams by fostering a safe, trusting, and nurturing environment that will promote academic, social, and emotional growth of all scholars at P.S./I.S. 127Q. Our school offers three different program choices for English Language Learners (ELL). We have a dual language program that starts in kindergarten and continues through middle school. Students entering the dual language program are given a baseline assessment in order for our school to provide the best services to ELLs.

Overview
Nestled in the heart of New York City, Steinway Intermediate School serves the multicultural population of Astoria. Our school consists of three academies that provide students with small learning environments, thus fostering a sense of community and closer collaboration between the school and parents. The Jewels Academy houses all sixth-grade students, while the seventh and eighth grade students are equally split between The Albert Einstein Academy and The William Shakespeare Academy. Dedicated to providing rigorous academic instruction, the school offers a strong Honors program, which provides in-depth study and prepares students for Regents exams in Living Environment and Integrated Algebra I, while also promoting the arts and humanities, by offering dance, music, and two art courses. This year 30 students were accepted into NYC's Specialized High Schools. Moreover, 34 additional students were accepted into Townsend Harris, Bard, Frank Sinatra, Beacon, Baccalaureate, Manhattan/Hunter Science High School, High School of Fashion Industries, and Talent Unlimited.
