Exposure to the arts is vital to academic success and cultural fulfillment of our students. The goal of PS 191's arts education program is to create an environment conducive to engaging in-person and remote students in various disciplines of art through a collaborative process that allows students to infuse their personality, culture, and environment through expression. While strengthening the students' creative skills through the study of craft and technique, we will engage them in the critical studies of the history of the arts with rigor and curiosity to create unique, challenging and diverse performances to share with our community. The arts are integral components in curricular performance indicators across all core content areas. Our teachers and paraprofessionals on every grade level work collaboratively with the arts instructors to integrate and align art studies with the social studies curriculum. We will broaden student perspective by working with teachers, professional artists, and arts organizations representing diverse, cultural, and personal approaches to art and by seeing performances of widely varied art styles and genres online.

The arts play a large part of PS 241's mission. This year students are provided with music and visual arts instruction weekly offered in-person and virtually. Students also have the opportunity to collaborate with many cultural organizations through virtual sessions with teaching artists as well as attend virtual field trips in the arts. In our keyboard lab, students have been able to receive piano instruction. Students have had many opportunities to perform in monthly assemblies as well as our yearly spring dance festival. Through our arts programs, whether in the building or remotely, we instill a lifelong passion for the arts and aim to boost the confidence of all students.

High School for Innovation in Advertising and Media is a small career-focused high school which offers classes in graphic design, traditional visual arts, advertising art, and cartooning. Our visual arts classes are based heavily in technology, with all students having access to the entire Adobe Creative Suite to use in the execution of their projects. e have partnered with the Brooklyn Academy of Music for our Spoken Word program and performance. We also offer Opening Act, an afterschool improv theatre program. Throughout the pandemic and limited access to in-person learning, we continued our arts programming, ensuring students still had access to the enriching experiences.

Even while arts have been remote this year, PS 249 strives to enrich student learning by aligning the arts curriculum with the national, state, and city standards. We continue to support student independence, content knowledge, and the ability to think critically. Students in PS 249's arts program are encouraged to engage fully in the art-making process at home this year, taking creative risks and developing their own voices. Throughout the school year, young artists exchange feedback, make revisions, virtually display and perform their work as well as share in artful experiences with their families and community. The arts team continues to work collaboratively with administration. Professional development opportunities make sure lessons are supported by the NYCDOE Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts and stand behind the mission of PS 249 which is to nurture students as they become college and career ready.

PS 316 continues to offer a comprehensive visual arts and music program. We continue to build upon the previous year's learning to extend and nurture deeper artistic expression. We have a full-time theater teacher who is able to broaden the students' knowledge and experience in dramatic endeavors, including exposure to Greek theater in the 5th grade. We have added a permanent 4th grade Shakespeare project through CUNY CAT. We were able to link the arts curriculum with common core standards, classroom thematic units as well as follow the NYCDOE Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. We have broadened our music program to include not only the Music in the Brain keyboard program for grades K-5, but also a violin program for grades K-2 and a cello program for grades 3-5 through the Noel Pointer Foundation. We have partnered with CASYM, a Brooklyn-based steel pan group to teach our students, and we are also working with Brooklyn Steppers, a drumming teaching organization. We have hired an additional teacher who provides instruction in percussion, guitar, and acapella singing as well as working with our schoolwide chorus. We have continued to partner with cultural organizations to bring in artists for assemblies and engage in field trips. Furthermore, our drama teacher completes a grade wide theatrical performance for each class in the grades K-2. There is a yearlong drama club for three to five students. The pandemic did disrupt these programs, but we adapted.

For this school year, students focused on learning the elements of music. In doing this, they were enabled to understand any piece of music, whether through performance or analysis.
Sixth graders explore the world of music through the soprano recorder. Students start their instruction in reading standard music notation. Seventh and eighth graders begin to learn how to how to play the B-flat clarinet. They play music by reading musical notation. This year, many of our eighth-grade students received admissions to performing arts high schools.
A licensed art teacher teaches all students visual arts. Students studied the elements of visual arts and the work of famous artists, replicating techniques to demonstrate understanding, knowledge, and appreciation. Also, all students participating in the Extended Learning Program receive an opportunity to participate in visual art, dance, step, and theater, most of which are taught by teaching artists. By June 2022, more than 85% of the students will achieve a score of 80% as measured by the New York City Blueprint for the Arts.

Ebbets Field Middle School (EFMS) believes that the arts are a fundamental part of a well-rounded education and are a necessary outlet for students to apply and experiment with concepts from other fields. EFMS views the arts as a place to bring together subject strands from English Language Arts (ELA) to science, and math to engineering. As such, the arts at EFMS are infused throughout content areas, and arts teachers take a multi-disciplinary and project-based approach to instruction. The EFMS Arts Department employs one full-time arts teacher in music. Numerous opportunities are also provided by engaging cultural partners and teaching artists to supplement and expand upon classroom work, including Ifetayo Cultural Center, HONK NYC, the New York Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall’s Ensemble Connect, Broadway Jr., Brooklyn Music School and BRIC Media Arts. All students from grades 6-8 take music seeing each teacher two times a week. In music, students are exposed to the breadth and diversity of musical genres and instruments around the world. They focus on the cultural context within which musical movements have grown, and they apply this knowledge both to songwriting and on an instrument of their choice by learning the fundamentals of technique, performance, and composition. Students have the opportunity to showcase their work multiple times a year at student award dinners, school assemblies, district events, cultural partner events and our annual Night of the Arts.

The goal for our art department is to continue to introduce and increase an awareness of the arts which will further increase the appreciation of the arts among the students. Through participation in technique classes, students will continue to learn culturally specific art forms. We currently offer three arts disciplines: dance, visual arts, and music. Within our Dance Department, students receive Dance Technique and Theory, Dance History, and Anatomy while promoting social and emotional wellness within their coursework. Through instruction, our dance educator is aiming to develop a dance program that produces and creates young training artists and upstanding citizens that will be well prepared for the expectations of their community. In Visual Arts, students will gain experience with a variety of art media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, and graphic design, and learn to express their ideas visually as they develop technical skills in each media. Through the study of art history and analysis of works of art history and analysis of works of art, students will develop critical thinking skills and make personal connections to the art of various time periods and cultures. In the Music course, students will develop the ability to hear, identify, and work conceptually with elements of music such as rhythm, melody, harmony, timbre, texture and form. Instruction in all three disciplines align with The Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts.

Arts instruction was not available for our students this year.
Q42 1 Rev
Our classroom teachers integrated the arts into the academic curriculum. Additionally, PS 375 partnered with MoCADA Art Museum to provide virtual afterschool enrichment. 0ur visual arts teacher also provided visual arts programming both remotely and in-person after school 3 days per week. Our school community is looking forward to a renewed emphasis on arts education and enrichment. We are also planning to partner with arts organizations in dance and music to compliment our visual arts program.
Q43 1
Jackie Robinson has always enjoyed a rich arts program through dance, music, and visual arts. Our student body was always enriched by these experiences. Like many other schools, the affects of the COVID-19 pandemic has been devastating to our school community. We are looking forward to the future and know the arts will play an important role in our healing process.

Academy for College Preparation and Career Exploration: A College Board School utilizes Puppetry in Practice, an organization that is committed to using the arts as a lens through which students experience, learn from and appreciate the world’s rich history of ideas, cultures and imagination. Established in 1979, Puppetry in Practice is an independent, not-for-profit organization housed in the School of Education at Brooklyn College. Puppetry in Practice assembles artists from around the world and places them in New York City schools and other educational environments to provide hands-on, arts-based approaches to language development and written, oral and visual expression. It also uses the creative arts to enhance literacy, spark curiosity and imagination, and engage in cultural immersions in the countries of origin that make our city great. Puppetry in Practice introduces and instills an enthusiasm for the creative spirit in every individual, at any age, through various means of expression. Through the power of storytelling, using centuries-old art forms or new electronic media, Puppetry in Practice encourages exploration by partnering with schools in building communities, both internally and externally. We believe the world’s great stories bridge cultures and help young people become aware of their creative selves, the contributions of others and their connections to a global community.

Our goal is to continue to expose our students to different arts forms. We brought in several arts residencies from Marquis Studios, Music for Many and Purelements An Evolution in Dance to work with our Pre-K-5th grade students. The residency with Marquis Studios was funded by Council Member Matthew Eugene of the 40th district. This program funded an afterschool visual arts program for our 1st and 2nd grade students. Music for Many provided residencies for grade Pre-K-2 in dance and K-5th in visual arts. Purelements provided dance to students from Pre-K to 5th grade in the afterschool and theater to students in grades 3-5.

Like all schools across the country, our school has been significantly impacted by the Corona Virus. Our students, families, and our entire school community has felt its impact. The majority of our students and teachers have been in Remote Learning for more than a year, and we have worked collaboratively to ensure that our students received an effective, rigorous, and standards based education.

We are looking forward to returning to full time, in-person, sessions in September and continuing our partnership with Brooklyn Arts Council. Through this partnership our students were enrolled in classes that supported their Artistic and Musical expressions. We also want to explore other partnerships that would nurture our students artistic expression and curiosity.

We look forward to having our students participate in the Arts and build upon and support their resiliency, recognizing that for some of our students, they are returning to the school after being away for a year and a half. It is important that they have the capacity and ability to express themselves as they navigate away from remote learning and transition back to in person learning.

We know that Art plays a powerful role in helping students to think creatively and critically, and look forward to supporting our students through the use of Art, Dance, Music, and Theater.

At International High School at Prospect Heights, we believe that the arts is a core discipline. Like other disciplines, our arts team uses and refines a list of discipline-based learning outcomes, in addition to schoolwide outcomes for language and collaborative learning. We leverage interdisciplinary curriculum to help students understand the complexity and beauty in their own experiences and the world around them. As a small school, we highly value our arts partnerships. Classroom residencies help bring learning to life, introduce students to career professionals, and diversify the ways in which students can express their ideas. We also rely on arts partnerships to help us connect students to outside programming when their interests exceed our course catalogue.
Q43 1
Our school serves all recently-arrived immigrant teens. We have representation from over twenty language groups. We integrate content and language together (no stand-alone ESL) and emphasize project-based learning.

All students at New Bridges Elementary express their creative spirit through visual arts, music or dance class each day. These classes operate on a rotation, in order to ensure that each student’s time is equally distributed among the arts. In addition to daily classes in the arts, children come together each morning for a community circle called "Bright Start, “ which includes music and movement and allows us to begin each day as a whole school community. This year we hosted both a winter and spring arts festival, which featured a night of performances and student artwork on display for family members to view. We believe that the creative spirit of our children cannot only be nurtured during arts classes as "specials," but should be infused and integrated throughout the school day in each classroom. In this especially challenging pandemic school year, the arts provided the anchor for our community resilience goals, with our theme "Forward Together" celebrated, connected to and rooted in songs, dances, and visual arts representations.

The High School for Public Service (HSPS): Heros for Tomorrow offers classes in the visual arts, music and drama. Students in the visual arts participate in foundations, studio, sculpture, and painting classes and have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of media. Music students can explore music through Intro to Music (including keyboard and music technology), chorus, and band. In the 2020-21 school year, we added Advanced Music Production. Drama is also offered during the school day as well as after school. Our goal at the High School for Public Service is to continue to expand both student and parent involvement with all art forms, so that students graduate with a greater understanding, appreciation, and passion for the arts. We continue to expand partnerships with community-based organizations for both instructional and performance opportunities for out students.

This year’s visual arts virtual instruction followed the NYC Blueprint in the Arts curriculum using digital media. Students still had the opportunity to draw, sketch, and collage. We will also expand our digital offerings by having a Photoshop and Illustrator course. They were exposed to both contemporary and traditional artists of diverse backgrounds; women, race, age, ability, LGBTQ+, etc. Students explored works of art focusing on particular artists and historical periods as a way to learn concepts and skills. All units included skills-based exercises and terminated in a final project to showcase mastery of skills and creativity. Students gave both informal and formal critiques to their peers. At the end of the year, students reflected on their growth as artists. Additionally, we offered an Advanced Placement Art History course which was open to sophomores through seniors. The course content was determined by the College Board, which amounts to a general survey of world art history from prehistory to contemporary. The class prepared students to sit for the Advanced Placement Art History Exam which can earn them college credit for the college that they attend.

Clara Barton High School's arts programs include courses in visual arts, drawing, ceramics, and music. All Clara Barton students are encouraged and programmed to take one term of a required visual arts class and one term of music. Students are then encouraged to take visual arts classes, such as ceramics, graphic arts, drawing or studio art, or participate in chorus. Students’ artwork is posted throughout the building and in display cases. Our music classes now include ukuleles, recorders and other instruments due to funds provided by the NYC Department of Education. Last school year, Clara Barton received a grant from the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Although we weren’t able to hold classes this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are planning on having it once again in 2021-22. Other students are involved in Opening Act theater classes virtually. We had several events where students' work is submitted to competitions or exhibitions in the DOE. This year we had two winners and their work will be displayed for all to see. We look forward to expanding the arts even more in the coming years.

During the school year, Aspirations worked closely with two educational consultant vendors to support our Arts program in music and dance. In music, students were able to obtain extensive skills in Radio Production, Studio Engineering, Music Editing and Video Production. Our students were afforded the opportunity to record their own musical lyrics and beats that expressed their emotions on topics close to them. As a transfer school, our students have encountered many obstacles, so music becomes a sense of release to get their voices heard.

More importantly, these students worked with a Producer who exposed them to the field of Music Production and gave them a sense of what it takes to make it in an industry where many have failed and succeeded. These students were provided the opportunity to visit other studios and record and edit their music. This exposure caused many of them to think about the next steps seriously with the option of pursuing a degree in Music from college. In addition, we have a dance program which is funded by an outside organization which exposes our students to modern, jazz, contemporary, hip-hop and African dances. The students who participate in this program are able to perform during school wide events on a monthly basis. Also, these students are able to take performing arts trips to other dance studios and participate in classes and work with people in the field. It is a great opportunity for our students to showcase their talents.

We believe students have a range of talents and abilities. Our responsibility as educators is to help students discover their talents and create opportunities for them to develop. As a part of our long range plan, we provide additional exposure in a chosen discipline to all of our students in grades 3-5 through a weekly Arts Studio. Our arts teachers work closely with the classroom teachers to integrate the arts into our units of study.
P.S. 705 continues to offer a robust arts curriculum beginning in Pre-K. We have a full time music and visual arts teacher with dedicated arts studio spaces. Students have opportunities to explore dance and other art forms through partnerships and classroom interdisciplinary integration. In the past we have had partnerships with Noel Pointer Foundation, Studio in a school, Marquis studio, Yo re mi, and integrate curriculum provided by Carnegie Hall. For the upcoming school year we hope to continue deepen and expand our arts programming.

Brooklyn Institute for Liberal Arts continues to have a strong arts program. We have a full-time visual arts and a band teacher. Our students have continued to produce excellent quality work, even during remote learning. This year, we offered visual arts and music classes to students in grades 9-10. In visual arts, students were exposed to a variety of free online art-making platforms, as well as drawing in sketchbooks. Curriculum focused on the elements and principles of visual arts. Students also explored essential periods in art history, and created artwork inspired by the past. In music classes, students used the free online platform, Bandlab, to collaborate with each other on original scores. Curriculum focused on music production and music business. Even through this difficult year, students were able to successfully engage in the arts, build their skills and learn about different cultures and industries.

P.S./I.S. 66 offers alternative types of arts programs that align with the New York City Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts and the Common Core Standards. At our school, we provide learning through STEAM, cooking, visual arts, music and many more art outlets for our students to grow. Our goal is to provide exposure to the arts in the elementary grades and develop a comprehensive sequential arts program for middle school by not only focusing on 2-D and 3-D design, but exploring the arts through other outlets. Pre-kindergarten through fifth grade are being immersed in the culture of peer learning through STEAM education. Lessons such as step-by-step recipes, team cooking, team- building skills, creation, and more are happening within our classrooms everyday. Cooking Threads has been very helpful to facilitate the cooking program. Students have been accepted into art shows and music students perform at nursing homes as part of community outreach. Visual arts and music teachers collaborate with classroom teachers to provide cross-curricular learning. Eight classrooms have been selected specifically to work with the STEAM cooking program, Cooking Threads, in order to provide more visual hands-on learning for our students. Many students have submitted applications for arts programs in high schools and have been accepted.

P.S. 114 Ryder Elementary builds the foundation for a lifetime involvement and learning in the arts. We believe in the importance of arts education as part of our rigorous and well-rounded curriculum. Visual arts and music classes engage students in a wide range of learning. Our visual arts curriculum includes exploration of different art forms while incorporating a study of famous artists. The music curriculum includes instruction in instrumental performance (keyboard, and recorder), as well as instruction in reading music. We establish cultural partnerships with community-based organizations such as Inside Broadway, 92nd Street Y, Carnegie Hall and others to offer enrichment opportunities in the arts. Teachers work collaboratively to produce grade level performances such as holiday shows, assemblies, multicultural festivals and musical theater productions.

92nd street Y
Q42 1 Rev
Due to covid-19 and shortages of teachers, teachers retired and our art, music and dance teachers either retired or went to another state. We continued to provide many arts programs virtually through our partnership with 92nd street Y for all grades through Young Leaders series. 92nd Street Y provided concert series and meeting the artists etc...Those services were provided during the school day where every grade had Dance, Music or Visual Arts.
We continued that vision for afterschool through our CASA grant with 92nd street Y where after school option and registrations were provided.
We also enlisted teacher from I.S 285 to teach our students art and dance for after school as well. These sessions were approximately 10 hour/weeks sessions.
With qualified teachers from other schools we provided Family Yoga and Saturday Dance program for our families.
We provided dance/movement for our little ones virtually as well for K and 1st grade.
Q43 1
Due to our teacher shortage and retirement, we were able to continue with our solid partnership with 92nd street Y to provide many Arts options for our children and families during the week and afterschool Naturally, afterschool and Saturday programs depended on timely registrations for parents and families. But we were able to continue with a sense or normalcy for our children where they still received Arts.

Teaching and exposing our students to various arts disciplines at P.S. 135 Sheldon A. Brookner continues to be a strong focus. Providing opportunities for the students to participate in performing arts allows the students to hone their skills. In our dance studio, students learn how to move safely and work collaboratively on dance tasks together. All of our students have an opportunity to showcase their talents through our Holiday and Black History Month assembly programs, monthly performances, talent shows, and multicultural performances for their peers and family members during the school year. Also, the performances provide our entire population with the opportunity to enjoy music, dance, and art. Our dance teacher collaborates with other teachers on their theatrical presentations. We are truly proud of our students.

P.S. 219 The Kennedy-King School has a strong visual arts program. We have a long-term grant with Studio in a School to provide visual arts instruction to grades K-5, as well as a DOE arts grant for English language learners and students with disabilities. Studio’s teaching artists partner with our teachers on three units of study primarily around sculpture, painting, and collage. Student work is displayed throughout the school and celebrated at special parent/guardian workshops and exhibitions. Studio also provides professional development for teachers, as well as art-making workshops for teachers and families. Additionally, classes go on field trips to a museum to further their exposure and understanding of art.

Over the last 20 years, PS 235 Janice Marie Knight School has developed an arts program that supports and enhances the overall curriculum. The arts programs span the grades and include all students. Our visual arts and dance teachers organize performances and exhibitions throughout the year. In addition, they continue to work closely with community-based contributors such as National Dance Institute, Theatre for a New Audience, and Symphony Space.

Our arts program at P.S./I.S. 30 Mary White Ovington remained strong. In the visual arts, the students created abstract paintings, explored mixed-media collages, and brought original superhero designs to life as puppets! They also created digital mosaics of classic works of art. In Dance, some classes gave performances inspired from “The Nutcracker,” studied Bob Fosse, and worked with an Alvin Ailey Teaching Artist to deepen their understanding of ballet and Horton technique. Some classes focused on hip-hop instead. Other students recreated choreography from Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly and explored the genre of hip-hop. In music, most classes focused heavily on music technology in combination with a digital audio workstation. Students embarked on such projects as songwriting, podcasting, rhythmic poetry reading, remixing music, programming MIDI, and orchestrating cinema. Band and orchestra also met afterschool. In theater, some students explored different types of puppetry and created virtual puppet shows. Other students produced a Zoom play of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” and wrote their own Shakespearean sonnets to perform. A few classes also worked on mime and improvisation. Middle School students learned filmmaking and produced their own news segments and commercials. Because of the pandemic, we went from stage to screen. This year saw our first full-length film production of our Broadway Musical. We look Forward to next year!

The arts program at P.S. 276 Louis Marshall consists of visual and performance arts. Students in second and fourth grades received visual arts instruction from Studio In the School. Eight percent of our student population in grades two to five are currently enrolled for thirty (30) weeks in the Leadership Program. The teaching artists provide instruction in drumming and dancing fashion and visual arts. Both remote and in person students were enrolled in the Leadership afterschool program. All classes from grades 2 through five participated in collaborative dance routines, spanning various genres of music. Classroom teachers provided instruction in performing arts, drama, cultural dance, poetry writing, and speaking in preparation for the culminating celebration.

Brooklyn Theatre Arts High School provides theater and music instruction and has a partnership with Roundabout Theatre Company.
Q43 1
Our school is in a building with eight other schools. Spaces like auditoriums, dance rooms, and choir rooms must be shared. As the only theatre arts school in the building, it is perplexing to know we have to fight for the spaces that should first go to us because we are the arts school here. Most of our students are on free or reduced lunch. We do not recruit as an arts school. In fact, we get a good number of student athletes who attend our school to play football for the campus. This is also confusing to me. We lose a good portion of arts students in their freshman year because they get to our school and are disappointed at our lack of a fully- developed, school-wide arts curriculum. These students are usually our strongest academic students. We need more space, staff, and onsite arts resources.

Our goal at Victory Collegiate High School is to offer art classes to our students in order to fulfill their graduation requirements and to provide our students with exposure to the arts, thereby allowing them to discover their talents. We experienced setbacks in trying to create a music program this year but will continue to explore viable options in having a program in place for next year. Additionally, over the last few years, several of our students have had their artwork displayed at various art galleries throughout the city and have been nominated for prestigious honors. As an inquiry-based school, we are fully committed to the idea that building connections between interest and academic rigor through the arts is a tool to propel our students to become greater critical thinkers. In addition, we will also continue to reach out to community-based organizations to develop and maintain partnerships to bring more opportunities to our students in the arts.

The Cultural Academy for the Arts and Sciences (CAAS) offers students a visual arts program that has an art historical component alongside hands-on exposure to a wide range of media, including drawing, painting and sculpture. Our students also explore theater, the spoken word, music, and culinary arts. The culinary program is in its fifth year, and provides students with experiences anchored in the restaurant industry. Culinary students hone their skills through internships, catering a variety of school events, as well as running a lunch cafe. The recipient of a 21st Century Grant, CAAS has a full-service after school program, which is run by the Leadership Program, featuring music production, mural painting, karate, culinary arts, and theater arts. In addition to project-based learning in visual arts, cultural literacy is built into the school day. Students are exposed to theater and film production and participate in talent shows at least once a year. Students attend gallery exhibits and enter visual arts competitions, including the Scholastic Art Awards and PS Art. Many of our students' work have been exhibited at the Brooklyn Borough Hall, Tweed Court House, Brooklyn Children's Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. CAAS is a steadfast supporter of its in-service learning through our many partnerships. Our students participate in a host of residencies and performances at the Brooklyn Academy of Music involving Shakespeare, the spoken word, as well as storytelling.

The goal for Olympus Academy this school year was to form a school band and to give more opportunity for students to learn to play musical instruments. Due to COVID, this goalhas been postponed until next school year. We have attained additional instruments so that students will have more options. In addition, we hope to help students become more familiar with using music software to create beats and song tracks. Students will continue to be exposed to both the theory and practical application of the arts. We continue to give students the opportunity to attend arts programs and performances outside of school and to encourage participation in the All-City High School Music Program.

Q42 1 Rev
The Academy for Conservation and the Environment a small school with one dedicated visual arts teacher who conducts five classes per day to provide an opportunity for artistic experiences for our students. Our visual arts program classes include digital arts, graphic arts, and drawing classes. Our visual arts program blends together the principles and elements of design, contemporary art and art history, online technology, art and digital design applications, and other supporting digital classroom applications. Virtual field trips have been added during remote/blended learning. A completely digitized art curriculum was created, retooling the past curriculum for remote and blended learning by utilizing online applications and software. We also incorporate visual arts into our computer science and robotics classes (and other class collaborations where possible).
