Our arts curriculum at I.S. 281 Joseph B. Cavallaro is an integral part of a solid educational foundation that builds upon prior arts knowledge and experience and addresses the needs of all learners. We offer a wide range of experiences in dance, music, media, technology, and visual arts, wherein students develop the physical, aesthetic and critical thinking skills that enable them to see and respond to the world. Students will experience various disciplines to expand their knowledge and skill and help them to make personal connections with our school and the world around them. Technology and visual arts are infused into curriculum studies throughout our school community. Our staff plan units of study that allow students to experience the arts through a variety of media. Ultimately, we seek to nurture an appreciation of the arts within all of our children.

The P.S. 277 Gerritsen Beach arts program encompasses a range of all arts disciplines. Each child in the school prepares and participates in a theater assembly program, which includes instruction in theater, visual arts, dance, and music, culminating in a final performance. Pre-K prepares and participates in small performances, which include the Lunar New Year and Special Family Member Day. This year many of these event occurred virtually. P.S. 277 has full-time visual arts, theater and music cluster teachers, who work with all classes from Pre-K to 5th grade. Several artist residencies and workshops in theater, media, dance and visual arts are provided to our students through parent-funded cultural arts organizations and grants/partnerships with city and community organizations. These residencies and workshops are the result of a partnership with Marquis Studios, through Parents Association funding, a DOE Arts Partnership Grant and through Council funds. These partnerships afford us the opportunity to provide additional arts instruction for all of our students. We believe that arts instruction should be integrated into literacy, math, social studies and science for our students as we continue to develop the quality of arts instruction for all students.
Q43 1
It is important to note that for the 2020-2021 school year, due to staff and space restrictions because of Covid-19, some of the programs offered annually were limited or cancelled this year, projected to resume in Fall of 2021 as more space and faculty become available again.

I.S. 303 Herbert S. Eisenberg offers courses in the following arts programs: visual arts, music, media, and dance. Our music and dance programs serve as a resource for the development of musical knowledge, musical skills, the fundamental skills in dance, aesthetic exploration, attitude development and provides for the personal growth of each individual student. Our students learn cultural dance, music theory, music history, and continue to be part of the I.S. 303 Jazz Band for our school. Throughout the pandemic we have been able to maintain these programs either through virtual platforms or in-person by social distancing. The dance curriculum focuses on the study of the elements of dance, ballet, and tap dance. Students learn basic skills and techniques to begin their dance education, as well as dance history and theory. Prior to social distancing, our students participated in several dance and theater productions, both inside and outside of the school. Students would assist in the production and set design for these performances as part of arts programs. We offer visual arts, dance and music to all our students and incorporate pedagogical strategies to strengthen the learning in our English language arts classrooms. We look forward to increasing the opportunities provided to students to engage in dance, theatre and band in the hopes that we can return to our pre-pandemic routine of offering at least two school productions per year.

All students at International High School at Lafayette receive three full years of arts instruction, including visual arts and media arts in the 9th and 10th grades, as well as a humanities/arts-based course in the 12th grade. All students will have access to additional arts offerings (singing, dance, film/media, photography) through our elective program. Also, the arts program at our school has designed innovative, interdisciplinary curricula for English language learners. Additionally, partnership organizations provide additional opportunities for students, based on need and interest.

The arts program at Kingsborough Early College School is designed to expose students to multiple forms of artistic expression, including visual arts, sound production, performing arts and the written and spoken word. Our school's virtual field trips included trips to see several Broadway musicals, poetry readings, comedic performances, and Urban Word performances. We were able to perform a virtual talent show and provide virtual performances and shows for our students. Additionally, our music technology course aims at introducing students to the basics of how sound works, while learning to manipulate and create sound.

At Life Academy High School for Film and Music in Brooklyn, we offer a multi-year sequence in film as well as a revolving track in music (audio) production. Our mission is to engage diverse learners through a variety of media and inquiry-based projects encompassing social, economic, gender identity, racial, and political (restorative) justice. Film and music literacy are woven through core classes by introducing students to various tools to cultivate, unlock, and express their creativity in multiple modalities. Striving to offer a Career Technical Education (CTE) using film (media & communication), students apply critical thinking skills via projects and peer review and critiques of works in progress, while building technical skills as we evolve. A celebration of student artwork is evidenced in the hallways and virtually on the website anchored in excellence. While making connections and building bridges across the core, and elective curriculum, we continue to partner with and immerse students in the arts from the Museum of Modern Art to the Irish Famine Museum. Internships in the spring and summer across the city involve the arts, film, and music industry, such as the Manhattan Theatre Club while others serve on teen programming committees from The Door to the Brooklyn Museum. For the seventh consecutive year, our seniors’ student work was accepted into the Brooklyn Borough Arts Festival Visual Arts Fair for the virtual and in-person screening at the Brooklyn Children's Museum.

Education in the arts is a top priority at P.S. 52, and although the 2020-21 school year presented unique challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our Arts Department continued to deliver instruction in visual arts, music, and dance--all provided by licensed arts teachers. This ensured that all of our students, whether they were blended or fully remote, continued to explore the arts through multiple arts disciplines. We have always made it a priority to produce concerts, dance performances, and visual arts exhibits throughout the year and provide family workshops to engage the community. This year we continued to produce these events and workshops via remote and virtual means. The Arts Department and Parent Coordinator also worked with cultural organizations to secure arts grants, arrange field trips and performances, and provide artist residencies for our school via remote instruction. Classroom teachers incorporated the arts into their curriculum, and artists and composers were studied in each grade as part of the arts curriculum. P.S. 52 remains highly committed to delivering an inclusive, high-quality, interdisciplinary arts education for all of our students.

P.S. 109 is servicing grades Pre-K-8 in visual arts, dance, and music. Our goal is to encourage our students to utilize the arts as a way to process the COVID-19 pandemic and support everyone’s social emotional learning (SEL) and mental health. We believe the arts provide entry points into SEL and Common Core Learning Standards-aligned curriculum. They are a vehicle for students to gain tools for coping with the stresses of isolation and anxiety in this difficult time, and build self-confidence by feeling successful in the classroom and are a catalyst for increased student motivation and engagement. We strive to meet the NYS instructional time requirements. We partnered with cultural organizations including NYC Ballet, Jelma Foundation, Museum of Modern Art, and Zuzu African Acrobats to allow learning within all four arts disciplines. Through these partnerships, students benefited from an enriched curriculum and teachers had the opportunity to grow professionally through planning and delivering instruction in cooperation with teaching artists and through professional learning opportunities and thereby expanding their capacity to integrate the arts throughout the school day for our students. We are looking forward to providing more opportunities and enhancing the student skillset in the arts program, as we plan for the upcoming school year. We look forward to expanding our programs and partnerships that promote cultural diversity and social emotional growth in all of our staff, students, and families.

Although our goals for achievement are set high, we will meet our students for the 2021-22 year with empathy. We will use the arts as an opportunity to reconnect with our students and welcome them back to the school learning environment. Within our collaborations there will be a baseline of social emotional intake and references. P.S. 119 puts forth project based learning supported by classroom teachers, arts educators and collaborations with cultural organizations. Upholding the NYC Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts and using the NYS Arts Standards as a guide, students are given many pathways to reach their creative goals. P.S. 119 has a long-standing tradition of schoolwide arts intitiatives where students work has been showcased in museums, district exhibits and our within our school building. The committed staff works to galvainze essential curriculum with creative opportunities. Each learner is provided with engaging, relatable and innovative entry points to make meaning. The students of P.S. 119 are shown the world outside our school, as they visit museums and institutions across the five boroughs. Often times collaborating groups bring new worlds to our classroom. Located in Flatbush PS 119 celebrates the vast diversity of our students and school community. If financially possible, we would like to maintain our cultural collaborations and expand to new offerings as we continue to open windows of learning through arts and culture.

Throughout the pandemic, our arts program retained it’s stature for the most part. All of our PreK-5 classes had music and art with certified arts teachers. The 5th grade had line dancing in their physical education classes. K-1st grade classes had some theater instruction with their classroom teachers. We wer able to continue with 5th grade band and orchestra. We were able to utilize the auditorium space for continued Music classes, and the cafeteria space for visual arts classes. Although there were no live concerts and events throughout the year, we had live graduations with musical performances. Classes still participated in online music and dance performances, as well as online museum exhibits. Next year, we plan on reintroducing guitar to 4th and 5th grades, Chorus for 3rd-5th grades, bell choir to 2nd-5th grades, and Orchestra and Band to 4th grade. We plan to reintroduce our literacy through theater to 2nd grade and a new dance teacher to the lower grades. We hope to reinstate our Multicultural and Fine Arts nights, as well as participating in the Make Music New York Festival in June.
Q43 1
We are a Title 1 school in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the nation (according to the census bureau). There are some classes with 12 languages represented. We are proud of our diverse lineage and it shows in our art making. No matter how new our children are to this country, they smile the first day in our music, art, and dance classes. We are the epitome of individual strength through supportive unity, and we celebrate and study our cultural differences and similarities in our creative expression.

Q42 1 Rev
Music was the most consistent discipline at School of Science & Technology. The expectation for the 2021-22 school year is to go back to our usual holistic approach in educating our students through a variety of artistic platforms.
Q43 1
This pandemic has affected students and teachers physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. It would be great if further funding can be supplied to schools residing in communities that were hit heavily. These communities need professional intervention through the Arts as a means of therapy, an outlet, and to get fit. I've noticed the drastic changes in my colleagues and students in every aspect. The best way to intervene is through the Arts. Everyone is open to either music, dance, theatre, visual arts, media, etc...Please consider this....

The Gil Hodges School, P.S. 193, arts education program, consisting of visual arts, dance, and music, develops interaction between each student’s creative expressions and their appreciation for art for our Pre-K thru Grade 5 students. The arts education program provides opportunities for each student to have hands-on experiences in producing their art, enhanced by the integration of art history, art criticism, and aesthetic critiques. Art education classes encourage critical and creative problem-solving skills, as well as empathy for historical and contemporary art works. The program is designed to encourage perceptual awareness, through the involvement of all of the senses, and allows for the integration of other curricula, as the arts readily relate to all educational experiences.

Even though this year was a challenging one, P.S. 194 has kept the arts alive. Our certified arts teachers and classroom teachers continued to work collaboratively to provide arts instruction to support units of study aligned with the Core Curriculum State Standards, the NYC Blueprints for the Arts and the NYS Learning Standards for the Arts. This year we continued our arts partnerships with Covenant Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, New York City Center and Midori Foundation. These workshops reached our in-person and remote students by providing virtual workshops with a teaching artist and recorded performances. This year we received an extension to the English Language Learners/Students with Disabilities and the Arts grant. This grant allowed us to once again have our 4th graders (remote & in-person) participate in an 8 week residency with Covenant Ballet. Many of our grades this year used dance to create video performances that were shared with the school community. Our students have also created many visual arts projects. Two of our students will have work displayed in PS Art and The Brooklyn Borough Arts Festival. Our arts team consists of two certified arts teachers (dance & visual arts). We continue to use our fully renovated dance studio and visual arts rooms for instruction. Our classroom teachers are also continuing our Artist/Composer of the Month program. All of our students, remote and in-person, receive arts instruction and will continue to, as school reopens fully next year. The arts are and will continue to be an integral part of P.S. 194.
Q43 1
Since March 2020, our performances & arts residencies were fully virtual. It is our hope, that as school reopens fully, we can go back to "live" events. If capacity limits continue, we will continue to create video performances to share with our school community. We will continue to use our arts spaces while following all safety guidelines. We will also be reimplementing the part of our Artist/Composer of the month program were students share information during morning announcements.

Q42 1 Rev
P.S. 195 Manhattan Beach is extremely proud of the arts programs we have developed at our school. We have a visual arts teacher who serves all grade levels. Her program incorporates artist studies and rich interdisciplinary connections to our social studies curriculum. A certified dance teacher provides instruction to all students in the history of dance, choreography, and technique. We have several visual arts exhibits and dance performances throughout the year.
Q43 1
As a non-Title I school, we have very limited funding. We wish we received more credit for the work that our cluster teacher does with visual arts, even though she is not certified in art.

P.S. 203 Floyd Bennett School’s engaging arts education program continues to grow and thrive. We understand the need for high quality arts for all students and the importance of early immersion in the arts, especially after a year where most of our students learned remotely and had little to no direct access to the arts. Our school plans to offer a balanced arts program - visual arts, music, band, and dance, whether led by a certified arts teacher or classroom teacher. We are continuously making strides to exceed the expectations as set forth in the Blueprints for the Arts and through the integration of the NYS Common Core Art Standards. Our seasonal performances, school-based and cultural organization-based assemblies, annual theater production, music and visual arts residencies, chorus, band, and annual art festival continue to develop and showcase the talent of our students and staff. Student performances and presentations are among the highlights of the school year and support with parent/guardian presence. It is with great excitement that we have begun to utilize the City Council $250,000 grant to update our auditorium with theater lighting and sound and a fully stocked control booth.

The arts program at P.S./I.S. 206 Joseph F. Lamb includes three certified visual arts teachers, two certified music teachers, one certified drama teacher and two certified dance teachers. This year, the arts teachers created and facilitated online classrooms where students engaged in virtual learning with live meetings and fun activities, as well as fun in-school arts activities during lunch. The elementary music program at P.S. 206 is a sequenced program that addresses musical feeling, concepts, music literacy, cultural context, and performance. The middle school music program includes general music which builds a foundation of music including the instruments of the orchestra, and traditional notation. The dance program is a creative program focused on the elements of dance and techniques such as ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop, and cultural dance forms. Under the Blueprint for the Arts in Dance, we study choreographers, dance history, and dance-making. The theater program is designed to introduce students to theater as an art form and means of communication to engage their creativity in developing original performance material, and build their skills as theater artists and lifelong learners. Several virtual Performances happened throughout the school year. The visual arts program is aligned with the NYC Blueprint for the Arts and students explore drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and collage, both virtual and in-person. We premiered our first ever virtual musical with Disney Musicals In Schools.

Our goal at P.S. 207 Elizabeth G. Leary is to make our students college and career ready in all subject areas, including the arts. Our students participate in rigorous arts curricula which support the Common Core Learning Standards and college and career readiness skills. In addition, we embrace the NYC Blueprints for the Arts and Common Core Arts Standards-based units of study and lessons which connect the arts to the Common Core subjects. We focus on formative and summative assessment which works to empower students to reflect and directly enhance their art. This process makes experience and performance in the arts more valuable by connecting them to a multitude of resources. Therefore, we believe there to be a significant correlation of arts achievement on improved English language arts performance. Additionally, we are furthering our school's curriculum by integrating a Science, Technology, Engineering , Arts and Math (STEAM) approach to teaching across all grade levels, including Google for Education platform, 3D modeling and printing, and digital art-making. It is our firm belief that this holistic approach to learning will yield students to become well-rounded, with the ability to incorporate the arts seamlessly into their daily lives. In this, we foster students to make educated, college and career choices, which are rooted in the education they receive at P.S. 207.
Q43 1
The Fillmore Academy (the middle school portion of our K-8 school) features a very strong visual arts, music, and theater program.

The visual arts offers a screened Portfolio Development/Advanced Visual Art class. Students create portfolios which enables them to audition for specialized high schools. Our school holds a yearly gallery exhibit school-wide, district-wide, and local community events. We were also part of the i3 Arts Achieve Federal Grant school for the Visual Arts and are currently working with the DLT grant.

We have also participated in the music, Juilliard Grant & are currently working with the Midori Music Program. This program enables practicing musicians as well as interactive performances for students in grades 5-8. Our music program offers a screened instrumental ensemble which includes a specialized Jazz band. Our music program offers a chorus for both elementary and middle school students. Both the choral and band programs present two shows yearly, as well as specialized performances for school-wide, district-wide, and local community events.

Our theater program runs through our after-school 3 days a week, and also puts on at least two shows per year. Through Millennium of Marine Park/Bergen Beach

Many of our students go on to attend specialized arts high schools as a direct result of this wholistic environment.

P.S. 217 Colonel David Marcus School's goal is to provide all students with sequential instruction in the arts so they meet benchmarks in the NYC Blueprints for the Arts. Students experienced instruction in visual arts, music, and theater from our certified arts teachers and additional instruction in visual art, theater and dance through arts organization residencies. Students K-5 also experienced additional instruction in the arts through our afterschool club program which offered instruction in theater, music and dance.

Classroom and out-of classroom teachers engaged students in arts instruction in alignment with the NYC Blueprint for the Arts. This school year we offered visual arts instruction to all of our students through our in-house fully-certified staff. Our visual arts teacher did weekly live lessons for all grades. Our students participated in visual arts activities such as painting, drawing, collage, and sculpture. Students learned about famous artists through reading aloud, research, and class discussions. Other subjects, such as dance, theater and music, were offered through various virtual field trips and workshops, as well our annual dance flash mob. Classroom teachers creatively connected drama and literacy by designing lessons, where the children act out stories and put on plays. Music and expressive movement were integrated into various curriculum areas throughout the day. We supported our students’ talents and creativity by encouraging them to participate and share their talents on our Flipgrid. Every year, our students participate in competitions, where they can design books, posters, or create songs for the particular topic of the competition.
Q43 1
Due to covid and staffing issues, we were unable to offer dance and music this school year. We look forward to having a full, thriving and well rounded arts program back next school year.

P.S. 236 Mill Basin, along with support from the Parents' Association, supports all modalities of art and it’s studies for all the students atour school. We have included art, dance and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) as parts of the school curriculum. Supplemental residences and experiences in the areas of music and theater round out the experiences and direct instruction the students receive. We continue with our development of clubs and student choice for these activities, so students receive as many experiences in the arts as possible. Limited school funding is supplemented by the generous support of the Parents Association and local, city and state funding. We continue in our efforts to provide students with a full, well-rounded education with as many supplemental experiences as possible, ensuring that students partake in the arts and all that New York City has to offer.

Q42 1 Rev
At Andries Hudde, we provided students with a robust arts program that included visual arts, band and dance. During their career at our middle school, we try to ensure that every student experiences each of the arts. Remote students received dance instruction and in-person students received band or visual arts. We had two community-based organizations working with us to compliment our arts program this year. This included Ajna Dance and Puppetry in Practice. Both delivered their program virtually.

At P.S. 245, there is one full-time visual arts teacher and one full-time music teacher. The students receive approximately 90 minutes of each discipline per week. Students are encouraged to explore and discover all aspects of the arts at this magnate school. Although there is no full-time dance teacher, many of the general education teachers encourage dance and costume making for many of the concerts and ceremonies throughout the school year. The visual arts teacher teaches sculpture, painting, printmaking, collage, drawing, and other construction units. We are confident next year will be very productive and we will get back to great art-making.

The Paerdergat P.S. 251 School’s arts programs this year consisted of in-person and remote instruction. Our students participated in daily instruction which met the expectation for theNYC Blueprints for the Arts. Our students engaged in a series of online workshops, virtual trips with a focus on the arts. In-person students received daily instruction in the arts. Through the use of technology and the arts, , students are able to create digital portfolios via Google Suites programs. Our goals for creative technology use is to help increase family and community participation in the arts, cultivate rigorous and meaningful arts experiences, while fostering college and career readiness.

Our visual arts program at P.S. 255 Barbara Reing School is based on the NYC Blueprint for Visual Arts and includes experiences in all media, museum trips, quality sketchbooks and journals, thoughtful written reflections, formative assessments and the use of an art room SmartBoard that brings the art of the world into our classroom. Students' work is displayed around the school and in the community, often winning awards. The program is an integrated and scaffolded program so that students in each grade level can acquire new skills each year. Our music program's junior and senior chorus perform in two major concerts and district 22 events. All students seen by our music specialist learn music notation and recognition, and choral instruction. Every second grade student received piano instruction twice a week. 4th and 5th grade "pull out" students belong to the flute club. Our dance studio gives student dancers the chance to explore creative movement and learn dance notation. Ballet barres and mirrors enhance students' experience. All dance students discuss and write about dance as well as observe and critique others work. Dance club participants choreograph creative dances, while dance students perform two major concerts during the year and at special events. Additionally, there are two dance companies.

It is the goal of P.S. 312 Bergen Beach to provide an arts education program that enhances the appreciation of the arts, while integrating curriculum-based content areas and embedding the Common Core State Standards. We work towards meeting the NYC Blueprints for the Arts by involving staff, parents, professional artists, arts organizations, cultural institutions and other community resources. We recognize the importance of the positive impact of the arts on the healthy development of students, both intellectually and socially. Integration of arts education can effectively engage students in all areas of study, helping to raise student achievement, as well as develop students' creative abilities to foster aesthetic appreciation.
Q43 1
Due to COVID and social distancing protocols, many of our arts classes we taught in the homeroom classrooms instead of our arts studios for the majority of the year. In addition, unfortunately we were unable to have any in person performances or artist in residency programs in person. We hope that we will be able to bring back more arts programming next school year as we have had prior to COVID.

P.S. 315 is widely recognized as a school where the successful integration of arts education, academics and quality teaching are inspiring student achievement. P.S. 315 has built an exemplary curriculum that emphasizes both arts integration and sequential skills-based instruction in dance, music, and visual arts. Literacy, social studies, computer graphics and science all have art components taught by classroom teachers and academic clusters. The arts specialists all integrate literacy, social studies and science disciplines into their curriculum. The efforts of the teachers are reinforced by partnerships with a team of pre-eminent cultural institutions. It is the school's philosophy that through immersion in the arts, students will make valuable contributions to the community.

P.S. 326 has a visual arts teacher who works with all grades. Students learn about famous artists, use various media and materials and create spectacular works of art. Ballet Tech has also worked with our second grade students and provides opportunities for students to participate in auditions for the Ballet Tech school. Our local politicians have also provided funding for our students to participate in afterschool music programs, karate and painting beautiful murals around our school.

At I. S. 381, all students sixth through eighth grade have been given the opportunity to take visual arts, dance and or music during the 2020-2021 academic year,in person as well as virtual. Students receive one to two periods per week of one or more art disciplines, plus extra visual arts instruction during an enrichment program. Students interested in visual arts portfolios for visual arts high schools are given the opportunity to continue their visual arts process through visual arts clubs given each day during their lunch time, as well as an afternoon enrichment program offered in the spring. As we move forward to the 2021-2022 school year, we are committed to engaging all students in the arts through in-person instruction.

At James Madison High School, we have continued to collaborate with Roundabout Theater. Students in English as a new language, English and special education have a visiting artist working with them in their classrooms. Roundabout Theater worked with our students (costumes, sets, lighting, and all parts of performances). Our music program has grown to include strings orchestra, and more sections of guitar. Our marching band is thriving and students have performed in parades and sporting events. Our mural painting class has expanded, as well. We have also expanded our partnerships to include Repertorio Español and 92nd street Y. We also participated in New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) competitions.

At Leon M. Goldstein High School for the Sciences, we offer painting, ceramics, and studio art. Exemplary projects are celebrated each year by being displayed at our annual visual arts exhibit. For music, we offer chorus and band. Each year our students put on a fall and spring concert. Our 9th Grade English language arts team is experimenting with a theater curriculum as well.

Origins High School’s arts program consists of visual arts and music. Our visual arts program begins with the all 9th graders in art foundations as a basis for visual arts knowledge. Students can then choose trimester long electives in visual arts or music in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. These electives are Ceramics 1 and 2, Digital Photography 1 and 2, Darkroom Photography 1 and 2, Stop Motion Animation, Drawing, Studio 2D Art (painting, printmaking), Guitar 1 and 2, Instrumental Music 1 and 2, Digital Composition, Let's Get Loud: Social Justice in Music, Art and Urban Sustainability, Portfolio, and Sustainable Fashion. Our program offerings are as diverse as our student population and we continue to try and expand our offerings.. We are very proud of the amount of offerings we have here at our school, and are looking to expand from our original visual arts programming into other disciplines, as we have begun to do in music. Our students learn in a project based learning environment that is strongly supported by the school at large, as well as Critical Race Theory to reach all students and Standards-Based Grading for equity in assessment. Our courses build on one another and strive to prepare students for the use of the arts in their college lives and beyond, whether it be a profession in the arts, design, composition, or other such disciplines, or a strong use of the arts as a tool in business, a means of communication, or a vehicle for mental health and wellness.

At Professional Pathways High School, we offer visual arts, music, and dance classes, taught by certified arts teachers. Each class is rooted in basic pedagogy, cultural studies, performance, creativity and composition, and career pathways as outlined by the NYC Blueprint for the Arts for each discipline.
Q43 1
Professional Pathways HS is a transfer school that serves students ages 16-21 who have struggled with school in the past for a variety of reasons. Many of these students may have not been able to engage in the arts until they come here.

M.S. 890 is a place where students' talents are nurtured. In its third year of operation, the school is now serving 6th, 7th and 8th grade. In addition, students were able to select from several enrichment opportunities, which also counted towards instructional time. These included student chorus, as well as musical history (Theater Arts for Social Change) in which students analyze popular Broadway musicals and the historical context in which they took place. Students are also provided opportunities to select classes in the arts, which include Animation Production (exploring animation through the history of the moving image), Film Production (making stories come to life), Photography, Latin Dance, Arts Studio (6th-8th), Guitar Studio, Percussion Studio, Violin Studio, Musica Mundial (building global awareness through music appreciation and performance), Retelling History (screenwriting and performance in musical theater and film). During the NIA Community Services Network afterschool program, students also had an array of arts opportunities to select from, including visual arts, band, keyboard, and musical theater. NIA also gave an opportunity to students to perform in an Oscar ceremony. We put on a yearly musical production. Last year the students performed Guys and Dolls.

Our school community at P.S./I.S. 137 Rachel Jean Mitchell has continued to support the arts programs. We are providing the students with a culturally rich academic experience. During remote learning, we have provided opportunities for students to engage in the arts through virtual workshops, arts-based assignments, and virtual field trips. Students are taught music, dance, theater, and visual arts as part of the school curriculum. We have continued our theater program with Disney Musicals in Schools this year to include all students’ learning styles and abilities. Throughout the pandemic, we have engaged our students both virtually and in-class in the arts. We strive to support students’ creativity and access to an integrated arts curriculum. We will continue to give our students opportunities to explore and experience new avenues of creativity through our comprehensive arts program.
Q43 1
We are looking toward the next year to in-person learning once more and offer more opportunities for art exploration and creativity. The arts play an integral part in social-emotional well-being and self-expression. As students transition back to in-person learning, the arts combined with SEL will help transition students and families back to the classroom.

Arts programming at P.S. 150 Christopher is provided by different community-based organizations and is funded by a Violence Prevention Grant (SVEVP). Programming is based on a specific number of scholars. Next year, the school community is looking into providing scholars with an African dance and visual arts program that will also address scholars’ social and emotional needs. All the scholars will experience the arts by a certified arts teachers. We will apply for grants to support this initiative in the school community.

At P.S. 156 Waverly, grades PK-5 collaborate with dance and visual arts teachers, students, and parents, in order to integrate the arts into the general curriculum. First grade teachers work in partnership with parents, arts teachers and other staff members to teach about the African culture. Students produce a play script around the African culture with the guidance of the teachers. They acquire African words or sayings and they learn different African dances and hear African stories. As a concluding activity, students present a play and dance performance for the community and parents to enjoy. The second grade students learn about several artists and their paintings. The students are encouraged to create their own paintings. These paintings are presented as a culminating event, where parents and the community can come and participate. Third grade learns about the Latin culture. After learning about different dances and the cultural history of the dances, the students study the Flamenco dance. Fourth and fifth grade students participate in our chess program and college and career readiness exercises. As a school, teachers work across grades to ensure that the students are being exposed to and experiencing multiple opportunities to learn about the arts, especially for Hispanic Heritage and Black History Month. In addition, three classes participated in the creation of puppets to represent the experiences, music, and cultures of our diverse community.

As our city reopens, P.S. 165 Ida Posner’s plan for the 2021-22 school year is to get back to making connections through the arts.. This means our teachers will continue to receive training in arts integration strategies such as visual thinking skills, Snapshot and Flocabulary, just as we did when we were a Turnaround Arts School. We will use the arts to create opportunities for our students and families as well as integrating the arts to make learning more meaningful and engaging for our scholars. Our students have been a part of some exciting experiences, such as dancing in the National Turnaround Arts videos of "Love Train" and "Everyday People" (with Paula Abdul), as well as going to Washington, D.C. to perform in the Turnaround Arts Talent Show at the White House. Through our strong partnership with Groundswell Arts NYC, our students have created beautiful murals in our school beautifying our building and making it a more welcoming learning environment. We are Brownsville strong and together we will make the arts even better than before within our school community!

For the 2020-21 school year, the St. Clair McKelway School continued with an arts program during the school day. Also, a portion of our middle school population was exposed to the arts during our NY Edge SONYC afterschool program which runs each day from 2:30- 4:45. SONYC allows our students to participate in visual arts as well as step/dance classes. The students in SONYC have participated in an visual arts gallery and showcases where their work is displayed, and they engage in musical performances. Classroom teachers have also engaged students in performances, visual arts, and creative writing. The school community loves and values the arts, and we will continue to program our students with arts classes in the 2021-22 school year including either a dance or theater class. We will also apply for grants that will allow us to provide our students with a resident artist during the school day and/or after school.

P.S./I.S. 184 Newport places a heavy emphasis on the arts as we share a visual arts teacher with a neighboring district school due to funding provided via the ARTS Matter Initiative. We have also been a Broadway Jr participant for the last 4 school years, which has bolstered our students' exposure to stage performances and collaboration within the school community leading to full-scale productions which have been well received by students as well as community. Through an anti-violence grant, we are also able to develop a marching band, dance, and step teams who travel throughout the borough performing at various special events. Students in grades Prek-2 are programmed for both music and dance instruction as part of their schedule, so our students receive exposure to the arts from the beginning of their educational experience at our school. Dance instruction and the marching band experience is incorporated as part of the school day through electives for Grades 4-8, with students programmed for these at least twice a week. Similarly, through the Extended School Day School Violence Prevention Grant, our students are also provided with visual arts, drumming and dance instruction during the extended day. Through these grants and initiatives, as our students transition from one grade to the next, by grade 6 they would have been exposed to a wide array of arts specific instruction adding to their academic record of receiving a well-rounded education.
Q43 1
Due to the pandemic, we have had to restructure our partnerships to meet the needs of our students while maintaining CDC guidelines and utilizing our common spaces so that all of our in-person students had the opportunity to engage with the ARTS. Additionally, we have been able to offer Art and Dance remotely to all students who were interested.

During the 2020-21 school year, The Gregory "Jocko" Jackson Community School offered a variety of arts and enrichment experiences to both remote and in-person students. Visual arts instruction occurred daily for in-person students and weekly for remote learners. Additionally, through our 21st Century Grant, we offered in-school and afterschool arts instruction and residencies with CARE and BRIC Art, in music and puppetry respectively, robotics, yoga, afterschool dance, and online photography on remote Wednesday through Teachers Leadership Program. Additional arts experiences were provided by Brooklyn Community Service's afterschool program.

P.S. 298 Dr. Betty Shabazz, we are dedicated to ensuring children have a wide range of cultural opportunities of exposure to multiple arts disciplines. We have students involved in visual arts, dance, musical instruments, theater, and media. This is a goal for P.S. 298 where students can have an arts block rotation to have the opportunity to enjoy multiple disciplines.
