At International High School at LaGuardia Community College, students generally study two dimensional visual arts media, including drawing, painting and collage. They broaden their creative horizons, expand their English vocabulary and knowledge of art history while practicing a variety of techniques and styles. Since all of our students are English language learners, we place a heavy emphasis on English language development in all of our content area and non-content area courses. Students are required to turn in written critiques/reflections at the end of each unit. They learn to work alongside other young artists in a vibrant, supportive workshop environment while also learning to work independently in pursuit of an individual sense of expression. All students moving from our ninth and tenth grade Junior Institute to our eleventh and twelfth grade Senior Institute must present a creative portfolio project before a committee as one of their six graduation portfolio requirements.

The High School for Arts and Business has a highly developed visual arts program that has a ten-credit visual arts sequence for both fine arts and graphic arts, which culminates in a chancellor's endorsed advanced Regents diploma. We are also developing a career and technical education sequence for graphic arts. The course offerings are: Studio Art, Foundational Drawing, 3-D Design, Computer Graphics, Advanced ADOBE Computer Graphics, Painting, Portfolio, and Commercial Design. We also offer Advanced Placement in Art History. Our program offers internships from several partnerships including the Center for Arts Education and The Queens Museum. Most of our art students have completed our ten-credit sequence and have attained the chancellors endorsed arts diploma. The music department offers a beginning and advanced band, beginning and advanced chorus, as well as music theory. Our school has a full concert band setup featuring woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. Our concert band competes at the Music in the Park competition. We have partnerships with the Oratorio Society at Carnegie Hall and The Orchestra of St. Lukes. Our students are awarded yearly New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) certification. We have dance instruction and a full dance studio where students choreograph dances and have several performances. The High School for Arts and Business has a theater club for drama students. We performed Dracula last year.

The goal of Maspeth High School's fine and performing arts programs is to support the school's core values of truth, beauty, and goodness through the promotion and appreciation of multiple arts forms. All students at Maspeth High School are encouraged to specialize in a single arts discipline over the course of their four-year high school career. As freshmen, students choose from the following: theater, ballet, string orchestra, chorus, or visual arts. Our arts courses are designed to promote the school's mission to have our students become leaders in all fields of personal endeavors through academia and to be physically, emotionally and intellectually healthy with determination and compassion. We accomplish this through a curriculum which is built upon the Common Core and NYC Blueprints for the Arts standards combined with our school's classical values. In addition to our daily programs, we offer multiple afterschool opportunities for students to become further involved in their chosen art form, or to explore the other disciplines. Students may participate in any of the following afterschool clubs: Art Club (visual), Argonotes (acapella group), Tech Club (theater), Band Club (all instruments), Dance Company (ballet), National Art Honor Society, String Orchestra, and Tri-M Music Honor Society. We believe that these offerings will help us to achieve our ultimate goal of providing a foundation from which our students will develop a lifelong commitment to the arts.

The arts program at Queens Technical High School aims to enrich the experience of all students by exposing them to a variety of techniques, culture, and art history. We encourage our students to express themselves creatively to promote educational and emotional growth through different courses in studio arts and graphic arts.
Q43 1
This year due to Covid, we unfortunately were not able to go on class trips to museums, or host student gallery showings as we normally do every year. Hopefully the year coming we can get back to seeing and creating art hands on!

P.S. 21 Edward Hart provides a well-rounded arts program for all students. Our third grade students participate in a comprehensive recorder program where they learn to read music as well as play the instrument. This program gives the students a basic music background before they choose an instrument for our fourth/fifth grade band program. Our arts department has collaborated to produce a virtual showcase through our school's multicultural night. Visual Arts exhibits are on display throughout the school building. Each year our dedication to the arts is further developed through a variety of cultural affiliations. This year we are proud of our virtual partnership with Carnegie Hall. All of our grade-wide or school-wide arts events are showcased in order to give our families the opportunity to celebrate their children's accomplishments. We have also continued our arts learning remotely and in-person during this academic school year using a variety of virtual platforms to enhance and implement instruction.

At P.S. 22 Thomas Jefferson, students regularly engaged in their music and art lessons, once during their seven day cycle. Performances and assemblies became virtual, extending the invitation to not just our students but their whole family. Students and their family could engage from home in programs such as, dance, puppetry, storytelling, and crafts. We hope for next year that our academic setting can be adjusted to include more of our past programs, such as theater, arts partners, artists-in-residence, and more enrichment and afterschool programs.

During the 2020-2021 school year the arts team at P.S. 24 Andrew Jackson included three full-time visual arts teachers and one full-time music teacher. In addition, our school has a full-time Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) teacher that incorporates coding and 3D printing. Each arts discipline is aligned with the New York State Standards, as well as the New York City Blueprints for the Arts. The PreK-5 curriculums have a multi-level arts learning experience. Student progress was measured in a variety of ways, including rubrics, checklists, performance assessments, quizzes, portfolios and projects. Monthly newsletters and the Class Dojo app is used to communicate with parents. As the curriculum changed to remote learning, students were also evaluated on video recordings, video reflections and small group virtual conferences. We had a schoolwide virtual Lantern Making Festival for the Lunar New Year where students and their families participated. In June, we had a virtual visual arts show where students and parents participated. The Book of the Month incorporates an art-making component throughout the year. For the Museum of the Month students learn and explore about a new museum virtually. Our dance teacher also has monthly virtual dance parties for students and parents. A few of our classes had a visit from an art educator from the Noguchi Museum who spoke to our students. Our arts team and STEM teacher attend professional development to stay informed and up to date on new offerings in the arts and technology.

For the 2020-2021 school year, P. S. 29’s arts goals are to continuously ensure that all students have a variety of opportunities to experience all of the arts disciplines. This year, teachers have focused on critical thinking, building and expanding students' vocabulary, and social emotional learning through the arts. Students are encouraged to be reflective of their practice, identify areas of strength and identify next steps in the creative process. With the blended and remote learning scenarios offered this year, all students were provided access to participate in each of the arts programs through Google Classroom virtual learning platform. Classroom teachers were able to take their classes to in-school learning workshops that were held outdoors, as well as virtual experiences such as shows, concerts, and movies. The arts teachers collaboratively worked to produce synchronous and asynchronous lessons that meet the NYC Blueprints for the Arts standards and correspond with classroom priority learning standards. Through creative use of Google Slides, Flipgrid and iMovie, we were able to provide our school and community with two digital arts showcases that highlighted student visual artwork, theater and dance performances from both in-person and remote students! We are also excited to share that three of our artist's artworks were selected to be in the Queens Borough Arts Festival.

At P.S. 32 State Street, we recognize that the study of the arts enriches students' learning and their lives. Our program enhances students' abilities to express themselves creatively, supporting student agency, by offering opportunities to participate in a comprehensive integrated arts education. This includes experiences in school, as well as experiences in the community and New York City in general. Our program enables our children to reach the NYS Learning Standards in the Arts. The goals of the program are that children are actively engaged in creating, performing and participating in the arts, make use of available materials and resources, respond thoughtfully to a variety of works, and understand the cultural contributions of the arts.

P.S. 79 has a vibrant and very active arts program that includes certified instructors in visual arts, music, theater, and dance. All of our classes meet the highest standards of arts instruction that includes actionable formative and summative assessments. Three of our arts teachers are facilitators for our borough-wide Professional Learning Communities and host monthly meetings at our school for Arts teachers in District 25. In addition to our extensive in-classroom time with our students, we expect to return to some of our very popular Fun Friday and afterschool programming that includes theater club, a dance company, chorus, band, (visual) art club, and a musical theater production. Our goal as we move forward is to create an environment that honors the creative spirit of our children and provides them with the artistic tools to express it.

This school year, the arts program at P.S. 120 took place mostly online. We worked with small groups and created an enrichment club through Zoom. All remote students had weekly access to art through a YouTube channel we created where students could follow along with us at home. Teachers also used our YouTube channel in the classroom and substitute teachers used it as well, when students were in- person. We can proudly say that every remote student had access to the arts. For the few children that were in-person, access to the arts was with a certified visual arts instructor. For next year, we are hoping for all students to be fully in-person, so we can continue our arts program in a more hands-on way. In addition, the arts increases our students' language acquisition, as well as supports their writing skills. Students next year will also be exposed to the arts through sustainability projects led by the physical education teacher. Our remote and in-person arts program helps students grow socially and emotionally.

The P.S. 130 Q Arts Program consists of visual arts instruction provided by teachers in grades K-5 and teaching artists from Guggenheim Museum who teach art to our second graders. Teachers follow the NYC Blueprints for the Arts and teach creativity, cooperation, analysis, and other important life skills by embedding art across the subject areas. Students also develop positive outlets for self-expression through our arts program. We participate in an afterschool theater program in partnership with Queens Theater in the Park. Our arts partnership collaborations offer students and the school community the opportunity to explore, experience and engage deeply in units of study in visual arts as well. Our primary goal is to encourage and support the imaginations of young students.

At P.S. 154, we believe that instruction in the arts is essential in providing a well-rounded curriculum for our students. Since children learn in different ways, it is essential to support their learning styles and intelligences using various methods. We have found that the arts can make the difference between a child's success or failure in school. Our goal is to expose our young learners to multiple forms of art so they may experiment and find those that interest them. We continue to expand on these experiences for our young learners and look forward to growing this initiative by partnering with more organizations and providing our students with more enrichment program opportunities.

Our aim at P. S. 163 is to develop students academically, artistically and socially so that they leave this school as independent, cooperative, responsible and creative children with a lifelong interest in the arts. Our visual arts program benefits students in many ways; beyond the tremendous value of learning artistic expression, they learn to visualize and complete creative projects. During our time in virtual learning, we continued to make the arts a priority. We learned about new programs that brought a great deal of interest and excitement into students’ lives which included Puppetry in Practice, Tiny Broadway, and the African American History project. We are looking forward to continuing to work with these vendors in-person next year. Our continued effort to promote the arts has prepared them to be well-rounded citizens, which will continue to help them explore arts education in the future.

Here at P.S./I.S. 164 Queens Valley School of the Arts, it is the belief that every child regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or heritage/language has the right to develop to his/her fullest potential. This year we have strived to create an atmosphere where students, staff and parents view themselves as life-long learners whether we are in-person or remote. During this transition to remote, hybrid, and in person we still had a strong focus of supporting one another to help our students develop to their greatest potential. More than any other year the arts have been able to give our students an outlet to what they have been enduring and going through this year more than any other. Our arts program offers inclusive opportunities in arts education, such as extensive programs in visual arts, dance, moving image/video arts. All students receive a comprehensive arts education which begins in pre-kindergarten and continues through eighth grade. We are committed to the philosophy that the arts provide vehicles for strengthening basic skills, heightening language development, academic motivation and achievement. The arts allow a wide range of students the opportunity to experience success and develop a continuing feeling of self-worth.

The goal of arts instruction at P.S. 165 Edith K. Bergtraum is to engage every student in expressive arts-making activities. Our accelerated and robust arts programs provide numerous opportunities for students to achieve artistic excellence. Curricula in dance, vocal music, visual arts, theater, band and string orchestra are based upon the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts and are aligned with the NYC Blueprints for the Arts for grades Pre-K through 5. All students receive arts instruction as well as opportunities to participate in formal and informal performances. Music, dance, visual arts, and theater are differentiated, according to their respective learners in a variety of class settings including: general education, gifted and talented, integrated co-teaching, NYU NEST autistic spectrum disorder program, and self-contained special education. Music, dance, theater, and visual arts programs offer sequential multi-year instruction for all students, as well as an accelerated performance program for students in the PS 165Q Glee Club, Dance Company, Theater Club, or Senior Band. The school community's strong tradition and commitment to the arts is supported by family engagement opportunities further nurturing the education of the whole child. At 165 we don't just teach the arts, we embrace the arts in order for students to envision a future with the creative arts in their lives.

Public School 169Q is dedicated to creating a nurturing and intellectually enriched environment that develops each child's unique capabilities. The arts can be used as a vehicle to foster creativity as well as parent and community involvement. Our dedication is evident by the presence of a full-time music and part-time visual arts teacher, a dedicated music room, and our partnership with arts organizations. All students in grades K through fifth grade create visual art, which is exhibited throughout our school and at our annual art show. As a school-wide enrichment school, all students in Grades 1 through 5 are given an opportunity to choose areas of interest to study weekly.

Throughout the challenges of the pandemic during School year 2020-21, Public School 184Q was still able to engage our students with arts education that included visual arts, music, and dance. All students in grades K-5 received weekly instruction in visual arts. Students in grades Prek-5 received weekly music instruction. All students in grades Prek-5 received a late spring residency in dance through City Center. The art, music, and dance instruction was tied to content area learning, thus reinforcing academic knowledge; it enhanced both fine and gross motor skills and coordination, built a sense of confidence and a chance to shine outside of academics as well as providing students with knowledge specific to the art form.
Q43 1
Our arts program was greatly impacted by the pandemic and the various restrictions and regulations put into place. Our visual arts teacher taught all students remotely due to his medical accommodation. Due to last minute funding, we were able to get City Center to provide some hours of dance to our students. Our theater program was discontinued due to the teacher moving out of state. For school year 2021-22, we will continue our visual arts program. We hope to have funding to be able to bring back City Center for our K-5 students and Dancing Classrooms for our grade 5 students. We hope the budget allows us to be able to hire additional arts teachers in theater and/or music.

The arts department of J.H.S. 185 consists of visual arts, chorus, band, and orchestra. There is a focus on music and artistic literacy with the goal of creating musical and artistic independent thinkers. This independence is to spur creativity and original thought among our students and informed interpreters. Our students receive a comprehensive, sequential, and rigorous curriculum that fosters an appreciation for the arts, as well as develops the necessary skills for placement in high school art programs and expanding future career choices. The instructors include five full-time music and visual arts teachers. The arts department program includes core music classes that meet at least twice a week.
Q43 1
Due to COVID-19 safety guidelines instrumental music, choir singing, theatre, and afterschool programs were put on hold. Moving ahead our plan is to bring back our comprehensive afterschool programs include CASA, Beginner Band, Concert Band, Beginner Strings, Chamber Strings, Select Choir, Broadway Jr. and Art Portfolio development.

I.S. 189 Daniel Carter Beard Junior High School’s arts education program provides students with opportunities to employ literacy in visual arts, music, and theater that are aligned with the New York State Learning Standards. Students actively participate in skills-based instruction in the arts and develop connections between the arts and the core curriculum. Within the arts program, students receive direct instruction in visual arts, music, and theater, including musical theater. Through Stop Motion Animation and Video Editing, made possible through a Reso A Grant, we introduced graphic design/digital media arts to our students. Students are also exposed to instruction in the arts through residencies provided by local cultural organizations. Our goal is to continue the comprehensive arts program allowing students to further develop their skills in visual arts, vocal music, and in theater-based projects, including musical theater. In addition to our residency programs with Arts Connection and Flushing Town Hall, we hosted a visual artist-in-residence through Artist Year. As a 21st Century Community School, we also had the opportunity this year to continue our afterschool arts offerings in mural painting through Groundswell, Musical Theater through Flushing Town Hall and Dance/Drama through 21st Century YMCA.

In past years, students at P.S. 193 have had the opportunity to experience the arts in a variety of settings. Our art, music and technology programs afforded children the freedom to explore various media supported with classroom instruction. Selected grades participated in enrichment activities such as the Ezra Jack Keats Bookmaking Contest and other citywide art contests. Ballroom dancing was an exciting experience for our 5th grade students. Our 1st through 4th grade students participated in a number of different residencies, through grants, such as Circus Arts, yoga, Mexican Dance, and rock and roll. In spite of COVID -19, students engaged in virtual yoga nights, paint nights, our holiday family singalong, Bollywood and Mexican Dance. We expect that next year will bring all of the arts back to school in a fun and engaging way! This will include our visual arts and music teachers to see each class in-person, along with many other residencies and clubs. We are very much looking forward to school year 2021-22!

Junior High School 194 offers arts education to every one of our over 1,000 students. Arts offerings include: dance, music, visual arts, theater, and film/media. All students in grade 7 and 8 are given an opportunity to select an art form and pursue it for a calendar year; in grade six, students are programmed to have at least one of the arts for the year, so they can make an informed decision in grades 7 and 8 for year-long programming choices. For instrumental music, students are encouraged to participate for a three-year program, each year building on the skills of the previous year.
Q43 1
This year, due to the students being either remote or in-person, not all students were able to be offered their choice in fine and performing arts. We were able to provide students in remote learning with this opportunity as they could attend google meets with different students. Students in person had to remain with the same cohort/pod of students, so they could only participate in one type of fine and performing art.

The Active Learning Elementary School (TALES) continues to integrate the arts into all curriculum areas in the school. Specifically, TALES is viewing the arts as a way to enrich the language acquisition process for its many English language learner students. Music is used on a daily basis in every classroom as an important instructional tool for the school's young learners. We also have an English as a second language teacher who teaches language through the mode of music. In addition, we contracted with Studio in a School to provide visual arts instruction to our Pre-Kindergarten through third grade students. TALES hopes to continue offering specialized arts instruction in order to provide students with a rich, child-centered curriculum that promotes language development and a love for the arts.

P.S. 201’s goal is to provide a well-rounded arts education program that enriches the cultural lives of our students, and empowers them to be innovative and creative thinkers. This school year, we offered a complete dance program led by an in-house, certified educator. Through the dance program, students develop technical movement skills, and discover self-expression through choreography. Aligned with our Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) program’s mission, students develop lifelong skills as they collaborate, and think critically about their creations. In addition, we utilized funds from various grants to supplement the arts in our school. Funds from the NYCDOE Arts for English Language Learners and Students With Disabilities grant was used to partner with Marquis Studio. Funds from The Arnhold New Teacher Support Program supported a partnership with National Dance Institute (NDI) and grant funds from our local Councilman led us to partner with the Children’s After School Arts (CASA) program. Funds from our Title I parent engagement allocation was utilized to partner with Global Arts. Additional goals for the 2021-22 school year include the expansion of our arts department. We plan to hire a full-time music and/or a visual arts teacher. We plan to strengthen the arts at P.S. 201 by continuing to work with our arts partners and by researching and applying for grants that will help increase exposure and the appreciation for the arts throughout our entire school community.

At P.S. 214 Cadwallader Colden, our goal is to provide students with a meaningful and well-rounded arts-based curriculum. Each student participates in a grade production. This ensures they will have an opportunity to dance and perform for an audience. We have a full time visual arts teacher who implements lessons that integrate various content areas. We have a full time music teacher who services every class in the school. Our grade 4 and 5 chorus and a school band meet with the music teacher weekly. Students in grade 3 learn about and perform on Djembe drums and other orchestral percussion instruments. Grades 4 and 5 learn how to play and perform with recorders, guitars ukuleles, keyboard and other instruments. Our CCAST (Cadwallader Colden After School Theater) program trains students in musical theater and culminates in full-scale performances presented to family, friends and the community in the spring. These performances assist us in sustaining our CCAST program for the following year. While we did not get to have a performance this year we anticipate approximately 85 participating students (performers, art/set design and stage crew) for next year. Fifty students in grades K-5 participated in a Cultural After School Adventures (CASA) grant sponsored by our Councilman's office. The students met for seven one-hour sessions with a resident from Flushing Town Hall to learn Chinese dance. The program culminated with a virtual performance in June. We will continue to utilize all available resources for a continued comprehensive arts education program.

Vibrant arts instruction was present at P.S./ M.S. 219 Paul Klapper in all four disciplines with our school staff and cultural arts partners. Pre-K to grade 8 students had designated music and visual arts teachers who delivered weekly instruction that was inclusive and differentiated to meet the needs of all learners during in-person and virtual learning. Quaver, Art of ED, Soundtrap digital curriculum resources and technology tools were implemented to ensure teachers and students were able to engage in relevant and engaging instruction. Our students had access to 1-1 and small group support throughout the year and were celebrated for their creative contributions during the PS/MS 219 Art Show and Music Showcase. Our 1st and 5th graders participated in theater instruction with Inside Broadway, our 2nd and 3rd graders, a visual arts residency with Guggenheim Museum, and our 4th grade students worked on movement and dance through our partnership with Young Audiences of New York. Virtual field trips and family events were offered to our whole school community. Arts and culture and the alignment of both were highlighted through the integration of culturally responsive sustaining education practices at our school. We are committed to pursuing this initiative in the 2021-22 school year as well as continuing along our trajectory of providing excellent, highly engaging, and developmentally appropriate arts education that builds across grade bands and disciplines.

At I.S. 237, we strongly believe students involved in the arts make gains in math, reading, cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skills. Our school's theme is "The Arts", therefore careful attention is given to planning lessons and projects to ensure that our magnet theme continues to flourish. We are fortunate to offer our students both performing and visual arts classes during the school day as well as an extensive afterschool talent enrichment program.

Queens School of Inquiry is a Grade 6-12 Early College Initiative School. All middle school students receive instruction in visual arts, music, and theater. Students in Grades 6 and 7 take their arts classes through rotations in visual arts and music, learning the fundamentals of each discipline. Grade 8 students select an arts major. Theatre majors are introduced to the various disciplines in theatrical study; music majors will learn the discipline and skills required in performing in a concert band; visual arts majors focus on honing art techniques and utilizing various art-making methods. When students enter high school, every freshman student selects their arts major. Twenty three of our current twelfth grade students are on track and eligible for a Chancellor's Endorsed Arts Diploma in theater. They have fulfilled ten credits or more in theater-related coursework, a three-part year-long assessment, and an independent student exit project. Elective courses offered in the high school are: Acting & Directing, Playwriting, One Act Play Festival, Technical Theater, Senior Theater Seminar, Theatrical Production Laboratory, Art Portfolio Development, Introduction to Visual Arts, Concert Band, and Dance. Afterschool clubs and activities offered in the arts include: Middle School Musical, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Jazz Band, Cheer/Dance Team, SING Musical Theatre Competition, Independent Music Lessons, Open Mic Nights, and International Thespian Society.

All of our students take classes in visual arts, media arts, and drama in each of their four years. Students also have multiple opportunities to perform and share their work with members of the larger school community. During COVID, we have continued to offer a robust arts program with virtual exhibits and performances.

The arts department at the East-West School of International Studies includes dedicated, full-time visual arts and music teachers at both the middle school and high school levels. Students have the opportunity to experience foundations in studio art, digital art and graphic design, foundations in music, chorus, musical theater, and beginning band/ukulele/guitar/keyboard. All visual arts classes engage in a variety of art techniques and have exposure to a diverse selection of contemporary artists through the use of hands-on projects and digital media. Students in all music classes experience music through the lens of a professional musician: they learn to read basic music notation and interpret markings in sheet music, develop their performance through different vocal and/or instrumental technique, and explore the lives and music of musicians and composers (past and present) from many cultures and countries, and in all genres of the music industry. Students learn the fundamentals of playing and maintaining their respective instruments. The arts department plans on expanding its offerings to students with a musical theater class open to both middle school and high school students in partnership with Inside Broadway, a Maker Space project in graphic design, and a continued partnership with The Justice Resource Center's High School Civics and The Arts program.

BELL Academy has full-time visual arts and music teachers on staff. Grades 6 and 7 receive on average two periods of visual arts instruction and two periods of music instruction during the week. This includes general music education and digital music-making. In some cases, classes receive additional periods of music enrichment which include instruction in music technology and in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM).
Q43 1
This school year has offered several difficulties and restrictions in regards to space availability and scheduling due to COVID safety requirements. However, BELL Academy has still been able to provide students with consistent Arts education both in Music and Visual Arts through out the school year.

College Point Collaborative prides itself on arts in education. Our goal is to integrate the arts disciplines aligned with the New York City Blueprints in the Arts and the Next Generation State Standards in all core content curriculum areas. This will be measured by student performances, projects, rubrics, observations and lesson planning. Our students will explore, engage in, and respond critically to the visual, expressive, creative and fine arts. Our classroom teachers design, plan, and implement curriculum using the arts as a vehicle of expression and support to content area work. We will continue to partner with cultural organizations providing our students the opportunities for scaffold learning from dynamic teaching artists in music. Exposure and integration of the arts into our curriculum expands our learners' knowledge and enables our children to become well rounded citizens who appreciate the arts. In addition, we are the recipient of the Broadway Jr. grant for the last two years which allows our students to express themselves through theater. We offer visual arts, music and theater classes as part of our student programming.

John Bowne High School is proud of our Bowne Visual Arts Institute. Students in this institute can select a sequence in either the two-dimensional track or three-dimensional track. Courses in the 3D track include: Studio Art, 3D Design and Sculpture, and Sculpture 2 and Ceramics. Courses in the 2D track include: Studio Art, Drawing and Painting, and Printmaking and Graphics. Portfolio, Advanced Placement Art and Design and Art History are included in the senior year in both tracks. These visual arts sequences will culminate in the NYC Department of Education commencement exam in the visual arts and successful completion of the sequence will result in a Chancellor's Endorsed Diploma in the Arts. We look forward to the next school year, 2021-22, when the Bowne Visual Arts Institute will be an ed-opt program. John Bowne offers a music major with a concentration in chorus, band, and orchestra. Each concentration includes a junior and concert level course. Additional music courses include Music Experience, Piano, Guitar, and Percussion. John Bowne also offers an Academy for Creative Artists (ACA) program. Our goal is to provide an enriched artistry program through a sequence of highly varied writing and performance courses both in-person and remotely. Through writing, workshopping, performances and literary experiences, students will be prepared for the rigors of professional work in both the writing and dramatic arts arenas, as well as in college and beyond.

The fine arts department at Townsend Harris High School offers two broad kinds of instruction: studio courses in visual arts (including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, mixed media, photography, film, video, and animation), lecture and discussion courses in the history, theory and criticism of the arts, and film studies. Our facilities include visual arts studios with a working kiln, refurbished photography lab, television and radio studio and animation laboratory. We offer art exploration, artistic inquiry, photography as well. The music department seeks to develop a greater understanding of musical language, musical performance, the conceptual foundations of music, and of how critical listening and analysis can be performed. While previous knowledge of reading musical notation is helpful, students do not need previous experience. Our program offers a wide range of opportunities for beginners such as basic music instruction and introduction to instruments and singing, and advanced studies such as All State festivals, New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) solo competitions, student conductor positions, and more. Our facilities include a band room, piano room, four soundproof practice rooms (each with a piano). We offer the following classes: Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Chorus, Keyboard and Music Theory, Chamber Music, and String Orchestra. All of these classes, aside from Music Theory, represent different performing groups in the program and perform at both the winter and spring concerts.

Queens Academy High School offers a range of studio-based visual arts courses that include mixed media, drawing, painting, and printmaking. In these courses, students are able to develop their ability to experiment and the confidence to tap into their own creativity. They expand their imaginative capacities while experiencing a variety of art media. Within each art medium, they develop the skills, knowledge, and appreciation needed to best express their artistic selves. In these courses, students learn to effectively use the language of the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design, and the terminology associated with their growing knowledge of tools, materials, and techniques. Students use the rich vocabulary of visual arts as they analyze, discuss, and assess their own artwork and that of their peers. Students reflect on and write about their art making process, and read and write about a broad range of artists related to that process. Additionally, we offer Art History courses that are designed to give students the opportunity to discover, appreciate, and acquire knowledge of art history through the ages. The course involves critical thinking and students learn to examine and analyze forms of artistic expression from diverse cultures and understand their contributions to the arts. Students develop their understanding of art within social, cultural, and historical contexts. They come to understand how art may be used to help them observe and interpret their ever-expanding world.

Our vision at North Queens Community High School is to provide opportunities for our students to become more rounded individuals by participating in arts programs beyond the two credits needed for graduation. As such, we are continually thinking of ways to allow our students to participate in music, dance, and theater beyond the classroom. We are continuing to pursue some funding opportunities offered by grants. We will greatly appreciate any support we can get for our arts programs.

At P.S. 18, the programs in the arts are dedicated to fostering creativity, cultural awareness and individuality in every student. Our goal is to provide opportunities to participate such as student-of-the- month performances, our annual musical, concerts, art family night, various assemblies, ballroom dancing, ballet and cultural celebrations. At P.S. 18, students benefit from ever-evolving, sequential and robust arts programs that use backwards planning and inquiry-based lessons, which adhere to the New York City Department of Education's Blueprints for the Arts curriculum, Common Core standards and Danielson framework.
Q43 1
Due to the pandemic, a number of our arts programs were restricted or cancelled this year. Our chorus program, instrumental recorder program, and spring musical production were all affected, just to name a few. In addition, our cultural arts providers (Dancing Classrooms, and American Ballet Theater) were forced to work remotely this year. We are looking forward to resuming these programs in the 2021-2022 school year, while adhering to the CDC guidelines for safety.

All students at P.S. 26 are provided with a high-quality arts education inclusive of music, visual arts, theater and media arts. Within our arts program, our teachers build students’ arts skills and knowledge and promote self-expression, collaboration and analysis by engaging students in hands-on learning experiences and deep conversations about works of art. Our goal is to continue to engage students in sequential, rigorous and culturally responsive arts education that promotes student voice and expression through the integration of innovative technologies and use of enhanced materials and resources. Our aim is also to increase celebrations that highlight students’ artistic development by inviting our school community to celebrate student work, as well as participate in and attend performances showcasing the creativity and innovation of all learners.

Public School 31 is a school that is dedicated to providing an enriching arts program to all of its students. Our music program includes a full-time music teacher and we perform winter and spring concerts. We employ a full-time visual arts teacher who works with each class, incorporating a variety of media into student art. We also have a winter and spring Art Show. Public School 31 also consists of an outstanding drama club which meets after school from January through June, culminating in a final performance for our community in June. Our fifth graders are part of a ballroom dance arts residency in which the culminating activity is a performance for their parents. The arts are incorporated into our daily classroom lives and each class rehearses and performs for their families and peers. Our halls and our lobby showcase the extraordinary talent of our students and creates a wonderful environment for students and staff alike.

At Public School 41 we place an extremely high value on arts and we offer a variety of different arts opportunities. All students Grades K-5 receive one to three periods a week of music instruction by a full-time, certified music teacher. Students in Grades 4 and 5 would usually have had the opportunity to participate in chorus or band. The band and chorus program will be reinstated next year once local CDC guidelines and safety protocols allow it. All students receive one period per week of visual arts, and artwork is displayed throughout the building. We are also fortunate to be able to offer theater arts virtually to all of our students. Our theater arts teacher-in-residence stages culminating Zoom performances (by grade) with our full-time music teacher throughout the year. This program is funded by our PTA.

At P.S. 162 John Golden, we are grateful to the DOE, PTA and Council representatives who support a great number of our arts programs. The Cultural After School Adventures (CASA) program through Inside Broadway provided selected students in grades 3-5 the opportunity to meet weekly to rehearse and perform a Broadway musical. The Puppetry in Practice program integrated arts into the Pre-K for all interdisciplinary units of study, which enhanced engagement, communication skills, collaboration, and creativity. Exploration and discovery through the arts enhances language development and creative expression for all children, but particularly for English language learners and students with disabilities. These programs help with our efforts to promote building on multiple intelligences for all our students, which is the essence of our mission statement.

At Public School 46Q, we value the importance of the arts for all of our students. We offer a multifaceted and comprehensive set of experiences in the arts through their integration in all subject areas. The school is decorated with student created art masterpieces. The performing arts are highlighted by the winter and spring concerts. Choral instruction is provided to all students in both lower and upper grades, and our children receive a variety of instrumental music instruction with band instruments including: piano, string instruments, keyboard, percussion, electric guitar and acoustic guitar. We have a Rock Star Band, junior and senior chorus and a string ensemble. Additionally, all third grade students receive recorder instruction. Dance instruction is given to all students who show an interest in learning more about Asian cultures and are highlighted in a school-wide Lunar New Year performance. Our visual arts teacher showcases our students’ work in our annual Arts Show and musical theater is offered to all the students as each class puts on a musical theater production. Additionally, we seek to provide our teachers with professional development during our arts cycles with teaching artists.
