We provide a four-year program in art that explores fine art techniques along with art history and the application of these skills in various art-related industries. All our students study the business of the arts and learn both digital and darkroom photography techniques. Students create portfolios over their four-year experience and write artists' statements and related essays. We aim to provide as varied a program as possible in the many subjects in the arts, including design, illustration, gallery and curatorial techniques. Our close connection with the business, industry and post-secondary education communities ensures that the standards, knowledge and expectations are continually updated and reassessed. This connection also allows students to have access to special enrichment, and unique internship and on-the-job training opportunities.

The Visual Arts Program at Urban Assembly School for Media Studies is predicated on the belief that every student is an artist in their own right and has a voice. The classes offered focus on providing students with a variety of means by which they can express their voice. During the introductory class, students are introduced to a variety of traditional and contemporary media that range from drawing, painting, and printmaking to 3D printing, kinetic sculptures, and Photoshop. Expanding from this is the offered fashion elective where students engage with the business and production sides of fashion creating articles of clothing that are showcased in an end of the year fashion show. Each class makes use of outside experiences, including visiting artist talks, museum trips, arts partnerships, and curated school showcases.

The High School of Art and Design has been a commercial art high school since 1936. All curricula are developed with our industry partners and post-secondary educational partners. We prepare students for college and careers in the arts. Our students receive two periods of art instruction daily for all four years that they attend our school. Our programs are all NYS approved Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs: architectural design, cartooning, animation, graphic design, illustration, digital photography, film and video, and fashion design. Students learn the Adobe suite and AutoCAD software programs and become certified in both programs. Our facilities mirror the state-of-the-art equipment used in the industry and students participate in internships available through industry partners and various arts organizations. They compete in art competitions and display their artwork in school and outside venues. Graduating students are accepted into major colleges and universities throughout the country. All our majors have their own gallery shows in the Kenny Gallery throughout the year. We also invite alumni and industry professionals to share their expertise with our students during Career Day. Our culminating Spring Arts Festival thoroughly highlights student achievement in the arts. This year due to Covid-19 we launched a Virtual Arts Festival. In addition, our fashion students presented their fashion show virtually and the film students showcased their films in their virtual online film festival.

Over their three years at Lower Manhattan Community School, our goal is to provide students with a basic orientation of multiple art forms and to establish deeper facility and competence in a single art form of their choosing. Sixth grade students participate in an arts rotation through which they receive eight weeks of instruction in each of the following: dance, music, digital and visual arts. At the conclusion of that year, students participate in a series of auditions and select one art form to specialize in over the next two years. Our students have multiple opportunities to showcase their artwork. Sixth graders demonstrate their work four times throughout the year during morning art exhibitions that are open to families. Seventh and eighth graders share their work twice a year in an evening art showcase and performance exhibitions. In all three years of our arts program, students perform multiple times for peers, the school community and the public. Performance is a skill and experience that we believe to be a key component of arts instruction in our school.

City Knoll offers a three-year arts program to students. For the 2020/2021 school year, it was a remote arts program focused on supporting students in navigating the Google class, remote learning supports, time management, mastery of digital arts tool/skills, graphic art/design, photography techniques, business plans and animation. Due to the pandemic, students adapted to various instructional tools and platforms and learned how to use different free art making apps and digital art resources so all students could create and enjoy the process of art. Student work was presented in virtual assemblies called Town Halls. We took virtual field trips to museums and looked at cave art aligning our arts curriculum to the Social Studies Passport curriculum. Students also learned how to master Google slides and Jamboards by adding audio/video, images without a background to seamlessly integrate into their design using GIFs and graphic art compositional approaches. Students also explored photography techniques and tools like filters to create expressive photo narratives. Next year, we hope to implement Walking to Talk, a program where students do neighborhood walks and create art about NYC and their community. This program is to help with trauma after Covid and to build relationships and increase student voice. We also hope to partner with Manhattan Youth afterschool to do some student exhibitions and performances. A materials support was obtained via Fresh Artists who is aligned to Dick Blick.

Our school has moved to various locations in its 9 years of operation. We are currently co-located in PS 111 on the 4th floor. The schedule changed various times during the school year; The visual arts educator covered classes not recognized in stars. The first 6 months vs the last 4 months averages about 200 hours total.
The arts educator worked remotely via a google classroom.

The arts program at PS 9 includes two certified arts teachers, both with Masters degrees in art education. One teacher works full-time serving pre-kindergarten through third grade, while the second teacher works part-time to serve grades 4 - 5. Our visual arts teachers strive to implement a rich and creative curriculum. The program introduces students to a variety of art making processes, including drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, and printmaking. The visual arts teachers at PS 9 impart skill, knowledge and art appreciation in these subject areas while providing opportunity for an array of developmental abilities. Along with learning the use of various materials, students develop visual literacy skills by observing and discussing works of art as early as pre-kindergarten. The use of technology is implemented whenever possible and practical. The program aims to provide a curriculum that is both sequential and comprehensive, building on prior learning in each unit and in subsequent years. Prior to Covid, each year PS 9 celebrated art with a family art night held at the school. Every student in the school has a work of art displayed and families are encouraged to not only view the artwork but to engage with their children in creating several schoolwide collaborative sculptures that are displayed in front of the school.

Our schoolwide arts instructional focus is to help students plan and monitor their learning in a way that makes their creative thinking visible through the arts and directly improves attitude and disposition to impact long-term learning and performance. Our K-5 curriculum is in alignment with the NYCDOE Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. Cultural connections are made to our students’ lives and a major focus on their individual experiences are valued and celebrated. We also seek to broaden our students’ Studio Habits of Mind of Persisting, Expressing, Creative Problem-Solving and Integrating concepts in high interest lessons to strengthen their artistic and academic thinking. We use the arts as the seed for developing ideas that helps to expand and strengthens their literacy and college and career readiness skills. These habits of mind are practiced across all content areas, with Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) approaches, in written artists' statements and bridging pathways between arts based learning experiences and content subject areas. Our students develop leadership skills as active participants in art making, musical, theatrical, and dance performances that engage the entire school community with the goal to plant seeds of inspiration, creativity and ensure a bright future for all learners.

The PS 84 mission is to ensure that all children leave PS 84 as lifelong learners and citizens of the world. We offer a rigorous and diverse curriculum that includes dual language programs (French and Spanish) At PS 84, we often say we speak four languages: English, French, Spanish and the universal language of the arts. PS 84 has a robust and well-established arts program that is inclusive of all arts disciplines. The arts are a vital component of school learning, and we partner with some of New York City's most prestigious arts organizations and institutions. The arts enrich our school, connect our diverse community and expand our students’ horizons. For over a decade, PS 84 has worked to provide a wide range of arts opportunities for all our students that include exposure to and participation in dance, music, visual arts and theater. We have established partnerships with numerous arts organizations to support our efforts. Our partners include New York City Center, Magic Box Productions, Inc., Neighborhood Music and Arts, The New York City Ballet, Ping-Cong, and the 92 St Y.

PS 145 is deeply committed to the development of communication skills, specifically through the arts. We have a full-time music teacher and a full-time dance teacher who help provide our students with a well-rounded education. Our TV studio allows students to create video clips and movies, which supports their learning. We also have a partnership with Studio in a School so all students are exposed to the visual arts. Second-grade classes work with the Guggenheim Museum so teaching artists can come into their classrooms. In addition, our students go on field trips once a month, many of which involve the arts. We are committed to providing our students with ample opportunities to help them learn what their interests are and help them harness the skills they all have within them.

Carry over funds from Covid. They were very eager to help with the grant process but did not live up to expectations in the arts classrooms, even prior to the pandemic. Artists in residence very from experience working with students, to lack of patience working with students in a title 1 school, and wavering on a clear artistic vision that gave the kids buy in.

The Sojourner Truth School embraces the legacy of our school’s namesake by creating autonomous explorations in visual arts, vocal music, and dance, (ballet/tap/hip hop). These artistic opportunities encourage students to achieve their personal best. Our vision as a school community believes that a holistic arts experience provides pathways for our learners to explore the arts helping students to investigate critical thinking, problem solving, and social emotional learning opportunities for personal growth and reflection. Our partnerships with Arts Connection, United Arts Experience, and Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) has allowed us to sustain the creative minds of our students and further connect the arts experience with our education and curriculum. The arts provides 149 students not only with a variety of materials for their visual arts experience, but also with enriching music, dance, and vocal music opportunities. These experiences provide students with the tools to prepare for middle school interviews and portfolio applications. Students connect the visual arts to other disciplines and are provided with experiences to recognize the societal, cultural, and historical significance of art. By utilizing and applying these skills and experiences, students can apply knowledge that they have gained in the visual arts towards interpreting the world. Independent artistic expression and exploration helps to reinforce literacy skills with a reflective art making process.

Public School 163 has an arts program taught by in-school, full-time dedicated and certified visual arts and music teachers. While this year presented unique situations and uncertainty, our school has been traditionally focused on the arts. For the majority of this year, kindergarten through fifth grade students received instruction twice every three weeks but transitioned to weekly instruction for the last quarter as schools moved toward higher occupancy. Performances by The Voices of 163 usually present three concerts during the year. While this was not possible this year, virtual performances were hosted. Due to the circumstances this year, we were not able to host outside cultural institutions to work with students as usual. Therefore, partnering with organizations such as the Lincoln Center Film Society Kids, the National Dance Institute, and Young Audiences New York was paused. However, Public School 163 worked with non-profit Thrive Collective to carry out a school mural project. Public School 163 also normally hosts the District 3 district-wide art festival every year at the end of May.

Public School 166, The Richard Rodgers School of the Arts & Technology, provides students with a robust arts program that enriches their depth of knowledge and appreciation for the arts. Our comprehensive program incorporates both the NYS Learning Standards for the Arts, as well as the Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. We aim to develop the whole child through an enriched program integrating music, theater and visual arts via rigorous content learning. Students actively engage in multiple art forms throughout the year. Children explore, create, and experience the power of music by investigating historical, societal, and cultural themes. Through instruction, they build technical and expressive skills while learning across cultures. Participating in annual theater and musical performances students express themselves in set design, performance, script and lyrical writing, and backstage work. PS166 students explore a vast array of diverse artists, art movements and materials through hands-on project-based learning experiences, culminating in a school-wide art show. Children are provided instruction that is interdisciplinary, linking the arts to literacy and social studies by making connections to various cultures, and local and global communities. Students discover that ideas can be interpreted in a myriad of ways. We celebrate imagination and growth through an appreciation of the arts. PS166 believes student learning is not confined by the walls of a classroom.

Here at the Locke School of Arts and Engineering we believe it is integral for the students to participate and have experiences that are rich in the arts. We have offered our students a chance to showcase their talents and abilities in our visual arts, music, and dance programs. Through these programs, students learn to use a variety of mediums in visual arts, learn traditional and contemporary songs, play instruments in music, and participate in a dance program based on both dance and physical education standards. These talents are celebrated with the families and the Locke School community in culminating seasonal assemblies throughout the school year. We hope to continue our weekly club period where students can choose from specialized arts classes like band, printmaking, and African dance. The pandemic has been a challenging time for the arts at the Locke School though students were still able to showcase their work in virtual art exhibits. They also participate in the yearly Manhattan Borough Arts Festival as we have always done every year.

In a typical year our students are exposed to a variety of arts education experiences. This year students in grades 3-5 continued our partnership with the New York Philharmonic. Students were able to have remote classroom instruction with New York Philharmonic teaching artists. Our weekly arts instruction was led remotely and in person by two highly qualified visual arts teachers and a music teacher.

The STEM Institute of Manhattan will continue to provide visual arts instruction through art residencies provided by Arts Horizons, Learning Through an Expanded Arts Program (LeAp) and the Leadership Program. In collaboration with these organizations, STEM students receive regular instruction in visual arts, dance and theater. Students also perform a full length Broadway Jr. musical production annually. Additionally, Arts Horizons and Harlem School of the Arts provide students with instruction in the performing arts, including voice and dance. As part of our regular school schedule, Friday Fun Clubs enable students to explore many aspects of the arts, including photography, Latin dance, and crochet. All classroom teachers integrate art through the content areas so our students continue to explore, design and showcase their work in our corridors and classrooms.

Students in our visual arts course explore a variety of media, learn new techniques and hone their skills through drawing, printmaking, and collage. Ongoing trips to museums enrich and deepen their study of artists and their process. After the switch to remote learning, this yearour students worked from home on visual arts projects and created a performing arts production showcasing their talents from their homes that was broadcasted to the entire school community.

In Art Expressions, students will participate in the processes of art-making through exploration of various mediums, subject matter, and symbolism. Students will be knowledgeable about and make use of the materials and resources available in the classroom an in New York City. Students will be able to respond critically to a variety of works in the arts and make connections between art and other subjects. Students will develop an understanding of the reasons people and cultures make art and how the arts shape the diverse cultures of past and present society. In Dance, students focus on building dance knowledge through vocabulary, dance concepts and technique/choreography. Students study a diversity of dance styles as well as the cultures and people that created dance throughout history. Students engage with professional dancers from organizations such as Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation.

At the Manhattan School for Children, we believe that the arts are vital to our children's education and that the exploration of the arts nurtures their creativity, imagination and ability to see other points of view as they make personal connections to the world they live in. To foster this vision, the school community has developed a dynamic and well-organized arts program across arts disciplines that is inclusive of our children's backgrounds and of the world's cultures. We are committed to a vision of the school as a community of learners who are empowered to create their work and share their process. We achieve this vision by the integration of the arts experiences within classroom curriculum and the broad exposure to the arts through our collaborations with neighborhood cultural institutions. With the need for virtual education, K-8th grade students studying at home, we're working to maximize online instruction, use of videos and collaborative presentations virtually. We believe that art, culture and creativity will continue to be at the forefront at our school.

At the Global Learning Collaborative, all ninth grade students are in enrolled in dance. Students have the opportunity to continue to take dance courses as electives. Our school also offers advanced dance classes. Our dance course is aligned with our school's mission and commitment to global learning. Arts teachers actively participate in team meetings with teachers of other disciplines to ensure a well- rounded program. This creates a unified curriculum committed to the support of the arts from a global perspective. All tenth graders are enrolled in ceramics which has a strong basis in science education, global perspectives as well as connection to math in the arts. Students in grades eleven and twelve may take ceramics level II. We also offer two Advanced Placement (AP) art and design classes which is connected to AP for All program. Students who would like to take the AP art courses are allowed two years to develop portfolios. Students can begin to take AP art and design their junior year. During their senior year, the AP art course is dedicated to final development of strong portfolio submissions. Field trip experiences to museums and dance performances are embedded in our dance and ceramics programs. Students are also afforded opportunities to attend art workshops at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Musem of Arts and Design. Other dance opportunities are abundant thanks to partnerships with National Dance Education Organization and New York State Dance Education Association.

Innovation Diploma Plus (IDP) High School offers arts courses in visual arts, theater, and mixed media. Our arts courses focus on using an inter-disciplinary approach that allow students to explore connections between notions of self and community. Within that process, students present a narrative through their own use of multi-media and performance and explore critical issues that are important to them. Each course has culminating authentic assessments that function as part of a student’s ongoing portfolio. In addition to arts courses, IDP incorporates art-based instruction within the social studies and English Language Arts curriculum through the use of authentic assessments, projects and teaching artists. Teachers at IDP collaborate with outside cultural organizations, including Creative Art Works and Young Life, to offer afterschool programs in theater, visual arts, spoken word, creative writing, and video production. During the 2020-21 school year, IDP produced multiple remote theater productions, three remote art exhibits and one spoken word performance. Over the course of the school year, students had opportunities to attend cultural arts events, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibitions and Broadway shows. For the 2021-22 school year, IDP will be collaborating with Creative Art Works (Artist In Resident), Studio in a School, Theatre East and Theatre Now, to create extensive art experiences for all students.

Q42 1 Rev
This year we have updated our arts program to accommodate remote learning. Because of the social distancing requirements that have been placed on schools, we have decided to change our music and performing arts program to a fully remote program with our partnered arts organizations. Historically, our school has offered a three-year sequential music program through our marching band, performing arts elective program, and visual arts electives. This year we are proud to say we were able to still offer all three programs despite the switch to fully remote learning. However, the number of hours has significantly been reduced this year. Music/marching band is a requirement of every single student for two hours per week. This class is taught remotely by a marching band teaching artist co-teaching with a staff member and supervised by our arts liaison. Our teaching artist is provided through our partner organization Nuvision. We have partnered with this program for nine years. This year, the program was fully remote. Our partner, Songs of Solomon, provided instruction as part of a performing arts elective that provided services in dance, vocal, acting, and spoken word. In addition, students worked with this partner to prepare for high school auditions. Students met individually and in group settings and then recorded and performed their finished pieces to be presented to the entire school community.
Q43 1
Our visual arts electives called “studios” are offered to every student on Fridays throughout the year. During this time students choose from a menu of remote arts activities to participate in. These courses culminate in two virtual showcases per year.

We are a Title I school. You can see our demographics online, 90% black and Latino, 70% live in poverty, some years almost 20% - 30% of students have disabilities.

Our school is the only UN-screened middle school in District 3, and we serve a disproportionately high number of special needs children compared to the rest of the affluent middle schools in the district. D3 is one of the MOST segregated school districts in the COUNTRY. Our population is the neediest in the district because of racist and segregating practices disguised as "screening" and "choice". Despite this we make progress each year and out perform other schools based on our academic growth for each student. Without the help of grants or wealthy parents we are able to sustain and prioritize arts programming for our children. Please reach out if you would like to know of ways you can support the arts at our school.

Students at Public School 452 study, explore and create in visual arts, architecture, vocal and instrumental music, dance, theatre and media arts/moving image. Cross-curricular units include opportunities both within the classroom and in the multitude of NYC’s artistic spaces, including museums, performance venues, parks, landmarks, studios and cultural institutions. We utilize group projects that require the children to plan, research, organize and share. Our goal-oriented units use technology, visual arts, drama and movement to express ideas. Currently, we engage our primary grade students in the exploration of the foundations of music and begin to foster their visual artist-self through a variety of media. Upper grade students begin to diversify their learning through choral work, differentiated instrumentation, art history, art making, art critique, and advanced visual artistic creation. We believe the arts to be an inclusive and engaging experience for all students, instilling an appreciation for all art forms while fostering their journey to become lifelong fine arts appreciators. During the 2019-2020 school year, we engaged in residency programs with National Dance Institute, the Salvadori Center, New York Historical Society, and Lincoln Center Film Society Kids. We work in collaboration with cultural institutions such as The American Museum of Natural History, Carnegie Hall, and various other museums and artistic institutions throughout New York City.

The arts curriculum offers different ways of understanding reality and expressing one’s self. Ninth grade students experience the arts rotation, which includes drama, dance, music, visual arts, film, and photography. Tenth through twelfth grade students choose from an array of arts electives spanning these six artistic disciplines as well as electives designed to infuse the arts as part of interdisciplinary courses of study, computer coding and technology. Our electives, digital film, digital and black and white photography use the school darkroom. African percussion, choreography, guitar, dance technique, music theory, musical production, percussion, and beat making take place in the school's dedicated music production and performance studios. Studio art classes are offered in drawing, painting, and 3D art. Advanced or honor courses are offered in visual arts, dance, drama, film, music, and photography.

Creative studio art course focused on the foundational elements of art in the 9th grade foundation year. Following that 9th grade year prerequisite course, students experience time in both digital art courses and studio art courses. Advanced coursework options in 11th grade will be by student choice between digital art and studio art coursework with the additional of possible electives.
Q43 1
Prior to this year there was no clear art sequence or advanced course curriculum. There were two new teachers hired, and digital art was created in terms of graphic design 1 and further advanced courses. The budget was expanded and unit planning was created for 6 units over the course of the year for each teacher.

The Visual Arts program at Manhattan/Hunter Science High School uses project-based learning to educate students about media, culture, history, and our local art scenes. Students use their expressive and creative talents through various artistic disciplines including but not limited to sculpture, modeling, video, drawing, painting, digital design and a multitude of others. They receive a broad education in the designs and aesthetics of our city while experiencing them firsthand through field trips throughout the year. In music class, students are given instrumental instruction on violin and keyboard. Students also explore digital notation software, sound recording/production, composition, conducting, music theory and musical theatre. Our musical units address music literacy, music history, improvisation and performance techniques to instill confidence. All students in the music program perform in a holiday concert and a Spring concert.

TAG Young Scholars School has been devoted to providing well-rounded arts education for its students. All of our students, kindergarten through eighth grade receive consistent, high-quality instruction in music and visual arts. We have a dedicated kindergarten through 4th grade music teacher. In 4th grade, students transition to instrumental music through the recorder. By 5th grade, students choose a band instrument and begin their performance instruction. All kindergarten through 8th grade students perform for their classmates as well as parents during formal concerts multiple times per year. In addition to our music program that takes place during our regular school day, we have an afternoon Latin Jazz Ensemble that rehearses afterschool twice a week. They perform multiple times per year, both in the school and at community events throughout New York City. In addition, our K-4 music teacher also teaches choir to students in grades 6-8. Our visual arts program is continuing to grow and develop. All of our students, kindergarten through 8th grade, receive visual arts instruction at least one time per week. They work in various mediums. Pieces have been displayed at art shows both in the school and online through Artsonia. Our art teacher also does an "Art Lunch” where students can work on projects during their lunch.

River East is committed to providing students with experiences in the arts. We have partnered for many years with the 92nd Street Y to provide students with instruction in ceramics and chorus/musical theater. In addition, we have two full-time arts educators so that all students in grades PreK to 5 receive instruction in the visual arts.
Q43 1
While we traditionally partner with the 92Y for chorus and musical theater, those services were unable to be provided during this school year due to the ongoing pandemic.

The arts program at PS 38 struggled this year. The pandemic limited oportunities for students to engage in various arts opportunities. We maintained our relationships with cultural organizations like Midori & Friends and Guggenheim Museum. They supported the arts in our school through activities, events and special workshops for scholars and families. We will continue this in the 2021-22 school year.

Public School 83 believes that integration of the arts into all aspects of the school community is essential to promoting the goals of the Common Core Learning Standards and revised common core aligned curriculum implemented within all classrooms, Pre-K to grade 5 in our school. Visitors travel through the hallways of our building and observe the fantastic pieces students have created. We strive to create environments where students can learn powerful lessons about resilience, ingenuity, and empathy. Engagement in the arts helps students understand the value of sustained effort over time increases their ability to approach a problem from a variety of angles, It also deepens their interest in and ability to relate to other people. All of which are of lifelong importance. Teaching the creative process is at the heart of all of our arts curriculum. Our teachers lead students towards a deep engagement with the creative process: generating original ideas, testing different approaches, collaborating with peers, incorporating feedback, and building resilience as they move towards creating works of art that can be shared with the larger community. Finally, the arts create a space where students can connect with others who share their interests and passions. The vulnerability and the honesty required to make meaningful art and the intensity that comes from preparing to share that artwork with others creates a unique environment where students can express themselves as individuals.

The faculty members of PS 102 Jacques Cartier are dedicated to providing a holistic education through the integration of studies in the arts. The students of PS 102 are recipients of two grants from the Save the Music Foundation. The core grant provided complete sets of xylophones, non-pitched percussion, and recorders as well as activity books and curriculum aids. The instruments complement a general music program that uses a sound-before-sight approach to teach music literacy to every student. The second grant, received during the 2019-2020 school year, provided a complete set of band instruments and method books. Students in the upper grades receive lessons on a weekly basis as well as ensemble rehearsals. PS 102 is also partnered with the Diller-Quaile School of Music as part of their Musical Access Program. Through this partnership, students are provided the opportunity to hear classical music performed by a world class string quartet, engage in interactive experiences with the performers in a more personal setting, and compose for the quartet. Growth of the arts is a priority at PS 102 and will continue its expansion in the school.

PS/MS 108 School of Authors currently has a full-time visual arts specialist teaching in the elementary school. The arts program is a choice based instruction that incorporates centers with a focus on student driven learning. Our arts curriculum is aligned with the NYCDOE Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Visual Arts and is rooted in the Studio in a School philosophy of a child-centered approach to learning and experimentation as a resource for obtaining knowledge. Our avisual arts teacher collaborates with classroom teachers to plan trips and make cultural connections in our community. PS/MS 108 is currently developing a MakerSpace that is student directed and incorporates a practice of innovation around reuse of materials and design thinking. Our school has an artist-in-residence program with the New York Philharmonic. We participate in the Very Young Composers and Recorder programs of the Young Peoples Concert series. We also have a theater instructor that works with 3K and PreK classes. PS/MS 108 also offers an extensive afterschool program that incorporates music, dance and visual arts. We're currently partnering with Publicolor to beautify our school and engage our students in learning about civic duty and contributing to our community.

At Public School 146, our students and teachers experience professional arts concerts and events. Through our partnership with the 92nd Street Y, students have received further arts instruction and been offered scholarships to their programs outside of the school day. Our vision for this partnership is to build a course of study consisting of arts disciplines that are related sequentially and make meaningful connections to the Common Core Learning Standards and the NYCDOE Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. Through this partnership, we are able reach our goal to make sure that every child in the school has access to the arts. We consider the arts crucial to the development of our students, both academically and personally, recognizing that effective arts education addresses the diverse ways in which students learn. We are committed to fostering collaborations between classroom teachers and teaching artists using common language and curriculum goals. The 'Y' also provides professional development to our classroom teachers as well as assessment and evaluation of our arts programs. This year we again are extending our programs until year end through an arts extension grant that has greatly helped expand into other arts disciplines for the students. The students will use what they have learned in their arts classes to create and produce a schoolwide performance combining all art disciplines.

Our arts program consists of an affiliation with Studio in a School for ART in 3k-K and Musical IQ (Musical IQ was postponed due to COVID, but we want to continue next year). Studio in a School fosters the creative and intellectual development of New York City youth through quality visual arts programs directed by arts professionals. The organization also collaborates with and develops the ability of those who provide or support arts programming and creative development for youth both in and outside of schools. At Public School 155, the residency is currently focused on our 3K - 1st graders. Musical IQ has partnered with us to serve our kindergarten through fifth grade students. The program curricula includes musical skills development and musical culture incorporating geography, history, and multiculturalism. Students experience the creative process and are a part of the making of a new musical creation learning self-reflection and discovery in the process. Through experiential learning, which is more naturally integrated than conventional study, the children experience a sense of community, teamwork, leadership and a tangible example of powerful collaboration.

PS/IS 171 believes that integration of the arts into all aspects of the school community is essential to promoting the goals of the Next Generation Learning Standards along with a thematic and project-based learning approach across our Pre-Kindergarten to 8th grade classes. Classroom teachers and content area teachers are involved in interdisciplinary planning while designing and instructing units of study that enrich student achievement with the implementation of music, movement, visual arts and dance in literacy, social studies, science and foreign language. Our school goals for the year include heightening our students' learning experiences by incorporating the arts to encourage speaking, listening, and vocabulary development skills. Utilizing art as a powerful tool, allows students to communicate learning when they cannot express their ideas and thinking through writing. Our long term partnerships with cultural and artistic organizations, including Studio in a School, NYCARES, City Year and the Horticulture Society of New York support and enhance our efforts to promote the arts. We are proud to share that in June 2018, our Public School 171 students won GOLD in Level three. In June 2019, Our Public School 171 Symphonic Chorus sings Level FOUR difficulty music at (NYSSMA) New York State School Music Association Festival majors for adjudication.

Our school community believes that exposure to the arts strengthens the brain's attention system which results in students further developing cognitive skills. Our schools's art program focuses on various arts discipline. We offer music, visual arts, dance, and theater. Our music program is a full time program that allows students in grade 3K-5 to develop cognitive functions that facilitates problem solving, logical reasoning, and conceptual tasks. The music program includes Music and the Brain. This program allows teachers to interconnect literacy with music. Our dance and theater program offers additional opportunities afterschool for students to develop collaborative skills, problem solving skills and enhance speaking, listening and comprehension skills. The program is facilitated by the Society of Educational Arts. The key element of this program is that it is bilingual and touches upon native language skills in an effort to enhance second language skills. The visual arts program is an in-house program facilitated by a staff member. Through visual arts, students develop an appreciation for the arts and their own creativity. They explore concepts that formulate higher thinking skills and expand their imagination and creativity. Our program this academic year was successful. This was evident in the projects and performances our students engaged in.

Our school's arts program is comprised of in-house initiatives in which music and visual arts are incorporated into the daily instructional program by arts cluster teachers. This year we have two licensed music teachers and a visual arts teacher. This year our school based arts teachers delivered instruction to all of our children in grades 3-5 at least two times per week and in grades 6-8 at least one to two times per week. This year we will continue to provide orchestral opportunities to students which allows us to foster the love of music. As a school, we have a strong commitment and vision for the arts.

The arts program at Manhattan East is a comprehensive study designed for both beginners and advanced students. Sixth graders are introduced to visual arts, music, and dance as part of their required curriculum. Students in all grades choose from visual arts, music, or dance as part of their "Arts Focus" which meets twice a week for double periods.

The Arts program for the SY 2020-2021 was deeply affected by the Coronavirus pandemic. A significant number of students and faculty participated in "Fully Remote" instruction. In this environment, We saw where Arts education was impacted by technology issues, limiting the breadth and depth of Arts instruction to a large number of students. Also, the in-person students were offered Arts instruction by teachers who are not certified in the specific Arts discipline, this was compounded by the loss of a music program that was offered the previous year due to financial constraints.

However, while the current program did not fulfill our vision for Arts instruction, through collaboration and planning, teachers included the arts as an integral part of their instruction, sharing knowledge and ideas with each other. Hence, students were instructed and directed using pedagogical strategies that had them gaining deeper understanding of core content areas concepts through music, dance, theatre and visual arts as applicable.

So, due to the dearth of the necessary resources, the current Arts instructional programming has been utilized with limitations. However, the over-arching goal is to have in place a formal comprehensive structure where all students are provided with extended exposure to the disciplines of the Arts. Therefore, moving forward the school will explore all available options and resources to provide a more structured Arts education program.

We currently have school-day sequences for music, visual arts and dance for grades six through twelve. We prioritize access for all learners, and we emphasize performance at venues throughout the city (not this year because of COVID). Our music program is currently focused on ensemble playing. Since most of the students are remote this year, our Esperanza Band has not had any performances. Students are practicing individually, some in the building and others at home. Students learn music theory and composition as well as performance technique under the direction of a Grammy Award winner/teacher. Our visual arts program is a grade six through twelve sequence focused on developing the fundamentals and exploration of the visual arts and developing scholar talent under the instruction of an award winning art teacher. We offer afterschool sewing club for 6th graders in which they learn to use sewing machines. We offer studio art for high school students that is currently dedicated to painting a mural in one of the school’s common areas. Students who are interested can stay afterschool for diverse art-related activities provided by Union Settlement Community Learning Center.
Q43 1
Our dance department is also a grade six through twelve sequence focused on developing the fundamentals of dance in different genres from ballet to jazz and hip-hop. The teacher and students are currently remote so, there aren’t any ensembles, scholars perform for the teacher in front of their cameras while making connections with other arts and disciplines outside the arts.

Q42 1 Rev
At Mosaic, we have a host of very talented staff that helps us provide arts instruction in the core curriculum. Classroom teachers teach arts-based lessons that are aligned to themes in literacy and social studies. These lessons are aligned to the arts standards and embed the use of technology as well. In addition, our dance teacher provides dance instruction daily via Zoom to all students in Mosaic Preparatory Academy. During these classes, the teacher discusses the keywords and origins of the dances. The teacher demonstrates different steps/movements and then encourages the students to mimic the movements. After practicing with the teacher, the students video themselves and upload it to the teacher’s Google Classroom so the teacher can keep track of their progress.
