Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics High School offers a robust arts curriculum. We offer both visual arts and music, including an introduction to music theory. Additionally, we offer both technical drawing and photography. Students in the visual arts program study art through the ages and create their own art through the exploration of drawing, painting and sculpting techniques. Our technical drawing program introduces students to the design of plans that visually communicate the construction or function of things. The Shakespeare Forum provides free afterschool drama lessons culminating in a year end performance.

Central Park East High School offers both studio art, Photoshop and yearbook to students during the school day. This program completes the New York State graduation requirements, and we offer students who excel in the arts many opportunities beyond the mandated credit requirements. In addition to the art classes offered during the regular school day, Central Park East High School works with Young Audience New York, CASA Arts with our English Language Learner (ELL) population. A Heckscher Grant offers digital film, Latin and hip hop dance, and photography residencies to students as extracurricular opportunities. Students who seek admission to colleges that focus on the arts receive assistance with portfolio development and are offered access to many supplemental afterschool and summer programs to increase their exposure to the arts.

PS/MS 123 is committed to providing quality arts educational programs for our students. We strongly believe that our students' gifts and talents should be nurtured to their fullest potential. It is our intention to provide art integrated experiences to enable our students to participate in various multiple art forms.
Emphasis is placed on developing creative and critical thinking skills to address the challenges of the 21st century. Our goal is to design and facilitate student interest and appreciation for the arts. Staff and parents will be provided professional development workshop opportunities to improve and enhance
their understanding of the arts. Parents will be provided multiple opportunities to take part in various art form celebrations with their children and teachers. We recognize the importance and therapeutic value of the arts in the lives of our students by permitting them to express their feelings through various art themes. Furthermore, we pride ourselves on creating 21st century learners that are able to compete with individuals in the real world. We integrate technology of various platform types to increase our students awareness of the various tools and mediums in which they can create art. Teachers and students utilize virtual platforms to provide a space for voice, encourage enthusiasm and sense of community for all types of learners. We will continue to offer highly-qualified art teachers to provide a standards-based arts curriculum

The comprehensive visual arts and music programs consist of Standards and Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts based curricula that enrich student learning and offer a generous platform in providing personal development in-school and beyond. The additional (virtual) courses, partnerships, museum, film, theater, and dance programs add incomparable enrichment to broaden the academic, creative and professional perspective. These programs enable students to make connections between cultural, historical and social aspects of the world through their uniquely creative imagery and expressive languages. This year, we increased the number of arts electives that students could participate in all grades. This year was slightly different considering COVID-19 restrictions, including all virtual/hybrid programming adjustments and increase of technology use to accommodate all students. Music performance programming in particular became music appreciation programming in the 6th and 7th grade curriculums as was adapted from previously written 11th grade music appreciation curriculum. Arts programming included considerations of student materials and shifted focus to be more inclusive of these factors, in particular, flexibility of material use. Lastly, in person field trips and work with outside organization shifted to accommodate COVID-19 restrictions
Q43 1
As we receive updated guidance about COVID-19 for the upcoming school year; arts programming within these guidelines may change regarding curriculum programming, and classroom space for students, in particular performing ensembles. This is similar to the many adjustments that were made for the 2020-2021 school year.

Currently one third of the school is offered Studio Art 1, and Studio Art 2, in mixed-grade classes. These courses introduce and develop students’ visual thinking skills and develop ideas from concept to completion through scaffolded assignments. Students’ develop their ability to work out problems in line, color, mixed media and 3-D media. Due to the Pandemic our materials were limited to what we could send in packages home. Packages mailed to students contained, 9"X12" 100 page sketchbook, watercolor set, color pencils. Beyond this, we asked students to create collages using old magazines, and use photography and online computer graphics app PIXLR, to make personal artwork.
Students are encouraged to build a portfolio with school assignments, personal work done at home, and shown on an online school gallery. Music is also offered to one third of the students in mixed-grade classes through two courses on Music Theory: Beginner & Intermediate.
After school workshops were offered to students in Latin dance, deejay music production, and photography workshop, through Urban Arts before the pandemic. Students attend one and a half hour classes twice a week over the full academic year, and their work is showcased in school exhibitions and two end-of-semester talent shows.
Q43 1
Our schools serves the local population of East Harlem, and a majority of our students have title 1 designation. The population of our school is predominantly Latin and African American. Be create a more sensitive and culturally responsive curriculum we are planning to introduce them to arts of the regions their families immigrated from as a way to build research skills and make them knowledgeable about their past and identities. The curriculum is always being edited and changed to meet out students diversity and use art to address questions of social importance to them.

Remote Learning for more than half of the school. Assessments will be verbal discussions.
Q42 1 Rev
This year more than half of the students and staff were engaged in remote learning. We were able to participate in some arts workshops virtually. The teachers implemented arts education within their lesson planning and execution of the lesson. We are looking forward to being back inside the school building for the upcoming school year and inviting our outside cultural organizations to collaborate with our students and staff.

The Arthur Tappan School PS/MS 46 is a community school that provides all students with a world-class education. We strongly believe in offering a well-rounded curricula, which goes beyond academics and promotes the development of the whole child through STEAM related activities, arts and letters. We work seamlessly to integrate and support each scholar’s social-emotional development, their artistic talents, their physical abilities, and their academic strengths and needs into our programming. By partnering with the Carnegie Hall Foundation, our students have gained an appreciation for music education and understand the fundamentals of performing in an opera. Studio in a School (SIAS) is another organization that has supported the arts program at The Arthur Tappan School. SIAS has afforded our scholars an experience to exert their own creative expression through 2D and 3D representations. Field trip excursions are a complement to our rigorous curricula offering scholars a unique cultural learning experience outside of our school building and to connect to the lessons learned in the classroom.

The goal of the John H. Finley School’s arts program is to offer a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary program which develops the following in our students: appreciation of art technique and process; development of observational, social, and fine motor skills; self-confidence, self-awareness, and empathy through artistic creativity, expression, and exploration; and application of specific techniques to real world situations, both within and outside of the arts realm.

We hired a certified visual arts teacher in 2019. Since then, all students from 3K to grade 5 have received visual arts instruction in the classroom. We also were able to hire a technology teacher and upgrade the computer lab. Visual arts media has been incorporated in the curriculum as well. During the 2020-2021 school year, we made sure students in the remote setting also had access to the school's visual arts program. It is our goal to continue providing students with these two enrichment programs.

This school year our arts program and our ability to provide a rich cultural experience was significantly impacted by the pandemic, which limited our access to cultural organizations to provide in-person sessions. Staffing also impacted our in-school programming of the arts. Our school's goal for the upcoming year will be to hire a music teacher, to continue to integrate the arts, and to provide additional supports to encompass arts in varied content areas to improve learning. We will continue to utilize current programs and seek additional arts opportunities for our students. We would like to provide students with a dance program via a residency with a cultural arts partner.
Q43 1
We are an elementary school in central Harlem, serving students in grades 3K to fifth grade. We are currently co-located with a charter school in our building, this has had an impact on the availability on space for instructional use. Additionally, we have experienced a decline in enrollment, and that has impacted on our funding, therefore our arts programs tend to be cut as we are unable to fund the programs. We continue to apply for grants and support from our CBO partners to support our efforts to integrate arts into the students' education program.

Following our school's motto of 'Mind, Body Success', the Public School 175 arts program focuses on teaching to the whole child by incorporating multiple intelligences within the arts instruction. Our goal is to provide an interdisciplinary standards-based arts program through which our students will be provided ample exposure to art disciplines. Engagement in these disciplines will enhance cultural awareness, promote positive socialization skills, increase self-esteem and positively impact students' capacity in areas such as math, literacy, and science. Through participation in these arts programs, students will recognize and engage in the vibrant historical and artistic community of Harlem. They will learn about cultural diversity through exposure to arts from around the world. Students will have an opportunity to create their own projects in our visual art studios. Consequently, students will think and perform like artists. They will increase their technological literacy through multi-faceted, robust, rigorous arts instruction, both in person and online.
Q43 1
Visual arts instruction was taught remotely this year, and will resume in-person in the 2021-2022 school year. Visual arts lessons were provided in both synchronous and asychronous instruction. Even though we were teaching and learning remotely, we still were able to celebrate our student's artistic accomplishments in two culminating events; one at the end of December 2020 and end of May 2021.
We had a 2-day culminating online virtual arts festival that had a multi-gallery visual arts showcase and a virtual spring concert. Both of these platforms featured students, staff, and families from our school community, celebrating how the arts can bring us together even when we are practicing social distancing. This event incorporated skills and knowledge students learned during in-person instruction earlier in the school year as well as during remote instruction online.

Despite the Covid 19 pandemic, the arts continue to be an essential element of education, just like reading, writing, and mathematics, music, dance, visual arts, and theater are all keys that unlock profound human understanding and accomplishment. Students in grades 3K through grade five receive a broad range of instruction in the arts. From a fusion of opera and visual arts with Time-In Art to piano lessons sponsored by Keys of Inspiration to Dancing with Yaffa and the American Ballet Theater, students have a broad range of art engagement. Our own music teacher provides piano lessons teaching the students how to read music notes and produce their own pieces. Students receive direct instruction in the visual arts each week: interpreting the work of others, as well as creating their own works of art with an emphasis on technique. Students have had the opportunity to virtually attend various art galas, operas, and culturally themed events in many of New York City's esteemed museums. For the 2021-22 school year, we will continue to provide high quality arts experiences for our students.

Our school had the privilege of continuing our visual arts partnership with Studio in a School, which provides visual arts instruction to our students and professional development to our teachers. As a result, we have an abundance of art displayed throughout the school with an increased love and respect for the visual arts by students, staff, and the entire school community. For the year 2021-2022, we will continue to provide dance, music, and theater instruction through our Leadership Program collaboration and licensed full-time staff arts instructors. We are also hopeful to receive another grant to continue and expand our dance program through Dance Theater of Harlem.

Our goal is to foster an environment where artistic creativity is nurtured and developed. We strive for students to recognize the cultural and societal significance of the arts, thus becoming lifelong advocates. Through our arts program, students are allowed to see themselves as true artists and performers. We believe our arts program helps students to develop critical thinking skills enabling them to view the world through multiple lenses. In this current era of remote learning, our goals have not changed. We continue to support our students with quality arts education. Our arts program is aligned with NYS Arts Standards and NYCDOE Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts.

The Urban Assembly School for the Performing Arts (UASPA) sustains a challenging college preparatory curriculum that infuses the performing arts into all aspects of the academic experience. We know that instruction in the arts enhances the academic performance of many hard to reach students. We present our students with a conservatory level of study and weigh offerings in the performing arts equally with our academics. During first semester of freshman year, students gain instruction in three areas of the performing arts: dance, theater, and vocal music. At the end of the first month of freshmen year, students declare and audition for a performing arts major which remains their focus throughout their high school career. During that time, students have double periods of conservatory study in their major.

The FDA Digital Media and the Arts Program provides lively engagement with digital media and the arts that add sparkle and a sense of wonder to the Frederick Douglass experience. Incorporating In-Person and Remote Learning Tools, we provide our students with digital platforms and events to share their creations with one another, the FDA school community and the larger Harlem cultural landscape. This year, our Program emphasized cultivating an appreciation of digital media and the arts, developing the individual talents of our students and focusing on their expression and understanding of social justice. In collaboration with classroom teachers, program faculty enrich content area topics with the visual and musical arts. The interdisciplinary approach to learning benefits students in all grades. Our program faculty are highly qualified professional artists and musicians. Visual Arts Students are exposed to a wide array of media and techniques in our television and art studios. The curriculum takes a hands-on approach and emphasizes the “making” of art with creative expression. In a well-equipped professional studio, HELLO FDA students learn the craft of digital broadcasting. In Music, our Harlem Samba students mix rhythm and tempo to create a unique Harlem sound. Harlem Samba had several performances online and in person. Our Harlem Samba program will be featured in special international Samba production this summer with a Scotland Film Premiere.

At New Design Middle School, we believe in the idea of providing our students with a variety of arts experiences. This year we will be providing our students with a music residency provided by Midori & Friends during our afterschool program. This residency will consist of a full demonstration of the selected instruments as well as a discussion of the various components necessary for student success.

The Teachers College Community School's (TCCS) overall arts goal is to provide all of our students with a well-rounded, high quality arts education which includes dance, drama, visual arts, and music. We are proud to note that our school's arts program encompasses all grades, including Pre-K. Our school has forged strong collaborations with Teachers College, Columbia University. Visiting artists have performed at our school and our orchestral students have performed recitals and schoolwide concerts. Student artwork was curated for an on-site exhibition at Teachers College. We have had a successful collaboration with Studio in a School and have continued a partnership with Danza España for Kindergarten through grade two students. All children deserve to view the world through a different lens by exploring the stimulating and exciting world of the arts. This year we continue to develop our in-house theater program for grades two through seven and our inaugural middle school class continue using technology in the arts. We have collaborated with community based organizations to provide additional modes of arts education to our students. TCCS has made a strong commitment to provide a diverse and valuable arts education to our students. We are looking forward to launching a dance program in our middle school grades in the 2021-2022 school year. We will continue or affiliation with Studio in a School and Danza Espana as well.
Q43 1
We do receive sufficient federal funding due to our population of school children. Hiring and retaining quality arts educators have been a concern for the past few years. We utilize our partnership with Teachers College to provide various Arts programming for students.

Our program consists of student classes in visual arts, music and dance as electives offered in our building. These classes include Guitar, Jazz Band, Core Music, Chorus, Art, Studio Art, Painting and Dance.
Q43 1
Our school is a STEM school. We do not have a specific arts program outside of our electives classes but we are interested in building a program if we had the space, the teachers and the budget to support it. We are on a college campus and our building access is very limited.

Despite the obstacles we faced due to the COVID pandemic, the Duke Ellington School continues to embrace the legacy of our school name as a community of learning that explores the relationship between the arts and positive social-emotional development. This past year, our school was incredibly resourceful in forging ahead despite the physical barriers due to the pandemic by adapting to a virtual model. Our school used the virtual platform to advance arts programming to further promote academic growth, social-emotional health and opportunities for all students to participate in an array of artistic endeavors. As a school community, we believe that the arts shape how we approach the world and where we go in life. Thus, our faculty upholds this value with our scholars and their families. This past year we partnered with the Dance Project of Washington Heights to support the Saturday PRIDE Academy. As a school community, we advocate for instruction in the arts, which serves as the basis of our student-led assemblies. Each month our student performances exemplify the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) virtues of the month. Our partnerships with Midori & Friends and Jazz Power Drama allowed us to sustain the creative minds of our scholars and connect the arts with their education. Despite the pandemic, we used technolgy as a resource to deliver quality arts programming with performances to our community.

At Public School 5, The Ellen Lurie School, our goal is to encourage our students to use their imagination to solve problems by nourishing their creative skills. We believe the arts provide entry points into Common Core Learning Standards aligned curriculum are a vehicle for students to build self-confidence by feeling successful in the classroom and are a catalyst for increased student motivation and achievement. We are committed to hiring certified arts teachers to lead our arts programming with a focus on visual arts. We strive to meet the NYS instructional time requirements. In order to allow learning within all four arts disciplines, we partner with cultural organizations, including the Center for Arts Education, Shen Wei Dance Arts and Museum Of Modern Art (MOMA) in partnership with New York Restoration Project (NYRP). Through these partnerships, students not only reap the benefits of an enriched curriculum, but teachers also have the opportunity to grow professionally through planning and delivering instruction in cooperation with teaching artists, thereby expanding their capacity to integrate the arts throughout the school day for our students. Public School 5 expands our arts offerings afterschool with two select choral groups, drumming ensemble, and English Language Learners (ELL) visual arts and social studies program.
Q43 1
Due to Blended Learning and the inconsistency of being fully remote and in person, we limited arts residency to after school opportunities.

Harold O. Levy School 52 offers programs in music and visual arts. Students receive two-to-three periods of art per week in their concentrated area in the categories of instrumental music and fine art. Students participate in several virtual performances and showcases. Presently, we have the only marching band in District 06 in Manhattan. The pivot to virtual learning prevented the usual band activities but resulted in the increase of technology software that was integrated into instruction. Next year we will return to providing performances in venues around New York City as well as several performances throughout the school year within the school and local community. We also hope to bring a dance program to our school community as desired by the students.

Our school's art program is a wonderful program that is closely connected to our school's curriculum. Our school has a theme of STEAM. Our visual arts teacher connects what the students are learning in their science, technology, engineering, and math classes. Our visual arts program introduces our students to many exciting mediums. They have lots of student voice and choice in the projects they design and create. Group projects, as well as individual projects, are part of the program. Each arts unit culminates with an exciting art project that the students are so excited to share with our parent community and one another. The visual arts teacher also encourages our students to practice public speaking as each student is encouraged to talk about his or her project. The students are very excited and engaged when they get to spend time with the visual arts teacher. Students are encouraged to be as creative and free-thinking as they want in their projects.

Dos Puentes Elementary prides itself on its arts programming. We offer programming and activities in visual arts, music, dance and theater. There are at least four musical/ dance performances, two in-house gallery exhibits and many arts-related workshops and field trips each year. Visual arts is provided by Studio in a School and serves all our students weekly. Children work with a teaching artist in Spanish to learn sculpture, drawing, painting, and printing. This is extended into the classroom during our daily 'Explorations' period. We have full-time, certified dance and music teachers who serve all our students. Children receive music classes weekly. They learn to sing, play the drum, recorder and ukelele and use other percussion, string and wind instruments. In dance, students learn creative movement, cultural dances, as well as contemporary modern and authentic jazz dance. Music is taught using the Orff model of teaching. Students embody music rhythms, experiment creating their own music as well. All arts programs are centered on collaboration and improvisation. As a dual language Spanish/English school, language and culture are reinforced through the arts. All classrooms also participate in our New Victory Theater partnership attending performances at the midtown theater. We offer students access to chorus, Capoeira, theater, the 'Just Dance' Team, Latin dance, jazz through residencies, partnerships and afterschool programs.
Q43 1
This year, the pandemic created a situation where our school had to repurpose teachers and spaces in order to meet safety and compliance mandates for the COVID-19 epidemic. Our dance teacher and dance room were a part of this. Certain activities that were main tenets of our arts programming had to be pushed back, cut down or postponed until the following year. Movement / Dance was attempted within music (as it is part of the ORFF philosophy). As a school community, our priority this year was to create a space where students felt safe, physically and socially-emotionally. While dance and theater were extremely limited this year, we are proud to say that the underpinnings of artistic expression and creativity were preserved through daily music and visual art classes. Dance and theater were incorporated into the curriculum in ways that were sustainable for our community.

The Public School 128M arts program consists of a licensed visual arts and dance teacher who provide critical insights for our students in alignment with the NYCDOE Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. Students are taught to make social, cultural, and historical connections through dance and the visual arts. Additionally, they learn to connect creatively to other disciplines and technology becoming lifelong learners and advocates for the arts. Students are actively engaged with cultural institutions, schools, community based organizations, libraries, and artists that contribute to the cultural and economic strength of New York City so they can apply the knowledge and skills they have learned to assist them in interpreting the world around them.

The arts hold a prominent place at Hamilton Grange Middle School. We are committed to making the visual and digital arts as well as music, including choir and orchestra, dance, theater, our annual musical production, and spoken word slam poetry as part of our regular school day and afterschool programming. Our commitment to the arts is twofold: 1) we want students to find their passion while here at Hamilton Grange, and through it build the discipline and work ethic necessary to be successful in whatever endeavor they choose; and 2) we know that training in the arts is beneficial to the whole child. Sustained learning in music and theater correlates strongly with higher achievement in both math and reading. Art studies and activities help keep high-risk dropout students to stay in school. New brain research shows that not only does music improve skills in math and reading, but it promotes creativity, social development, personality adjustment and self-worth. Students who study the arts are four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement and three times more likely to be awarded for school attendance. We look forward to working with you!

P.S. 132 Juan Pablo Duarte Elementary School offers students in kindergarten through fifth grade multiple classes in the arts. Students have the opportunity to participate in visual arts, music, story studio and dance. Our school promotes the foundational understanding and skills through the use of various arts programs. Students acquire procedural knowledge, skill and craftsmanship in all aspects of the arts processes. Our arts program assists students in exploring diverse historical and cultural heritage while creating and understanding the rich meaning of the arts as a whole. With the use of a variety of arts resources and exhibitions, our school continuously explores integrated themes. Our programs provide an opportunity for the community to be an integral part of the learning process. Each grade level has the opportunity to engage in a curriculum which implements a wide range of media. Our studios provide a space to encourage students to be inventive and original. Students are taught to appreciate different art forms, as well the use of these forms as a connection to the core subjects taught in the classroom. We believe the coordination with classroom units and themes enriches learning and helps to build confidence as critical thinkers. Providing various arts programs in our school is highlighted and encouraged by the support of the whole school community.

Our 2021-2022 school's arts curriculum is based on the NYCDOE Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. We provide an Arts Literacy Program (ALP) that offers our students an intracurricular arts-based program that is instructed by the visual arts teacher referencing social studies and the English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum. It is a multi-unit rotating program that affords our students the opportunity to study art history and compare and analyze different world cultures.

At P.S. 153M, our goal is to provide access and mastery of the arts on all of its forms (music, visual arts, dance, and theater) for all students so that they can achieve their fullest potential. We want our students to be holistically developed (mind, spirit, emotional, and academic) in all content areas including the arts.

The arts program at P.S.178 nurtures the creativity of all students. We provide a safe space where students can develop artistically. This year we have continued to work with Symphony Space to open students to the arts of different cultures. We also worked with the Morgan Library & Museum to teach students about illuminated manuscripts. Our parent association has provided funding for our music program. All our students receive quality visual arts instruction from our visual arts teacher. We have a strong commitment to the arts, and we believe that the arts are an integral part of a well-rounded education. We think that developing arts literacy, vocabulary, and skills support learning across the curriculum. We hope to instill in our students a lifelong appreciation for the arts. Our goal for next year will be to continue incorporating social emotional learning (SEL) in lessons. We need to help students manage emotions and stress related to the pandemic. In addition, our focus is on building equity in our teaching. Through the arts we would like to sustain the culture of our students.

In order to provide our students with a strong foundation in the arts, all students participate in music and visual arts instruction. These programs support and enhance the classroom learning environment by aligning the New York State Standards for Learning in the Arts, NYCDOE Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts and the Common Core curricula. We believe that music and visual arts enrich and enhance individual learning and promote schoolwide progress in the basic skills of thinking, listening, speaking, reading and writing, while supporting our students' social and emotional growth. Our music program offers instruction in general music, string ensemble, piano, and chorus. All of our kindergarten and first grade students participate in MATB classes for two periods per week with a MATB trained and licensed music teacher providing instruction using keyboards. Our visual arts program integrates Common Core content enriching concept and knowledge and exposing students to experimentation with various forms of art media. We provide our students in grades three through five with the opportunity to participate in our afterschool sketch club with the goal of enhancing students' observational skills and develop their drawing abilities. This year our fifth grade students participated in our theater club, The Hamilton Club, where students performed an adapted version of the famous Broadway show.
Q43 1
This year, due to the pandemic, scheduling overall was very challenging. We tried our best to give students the opportunity to participate and engage in arts enrichment remotely and in person. The challenges that we faced ranged from lack of in-person personnel, and program scheduling time restraints. As for next year we are hoping to recoup all of our arts programing and arts enrichment programs for our students for 2021-2022 school year.

Due to the pandemic, we as a school had to be creative in our approach to provide an accessible arts program for our students given the limitations. We were able to provide a multitude of "virtual" arts program within the different disciplines for our students in grades 3K-5. Aside from classroom teachers infusing their daily instruction with elements of art, students were offered virtual courses and supplied materials to participate in programs, such as the remote Community Work: Design and Build workshops by Creative Art Works during spring recess. Students and their families were encouraged to participate in virtual Zumba classes twice a week. Students in grade 2, 4 and 5 had the fortune of participating in the Salvadori STEM workshop program where they had the opportunity to plan, design, build, and present a model of a community virtually. NYC Mission Society continued to offer a modified version of its afterschool program where students were exposed to creative activities. As the city reopens, our hope is to return to pre-Covid activities around New York City as well as continue to offer a variety of arts programs virtually so that all in our community can participate.
Q43 1
PS 192 had both blended and remote learning classes during the 2020-2021 school year. To best reach all students, all arts program activities were held remotely at various times throughout the day. Families were encouraged to visit the school to pick up materials as needed at no cost as well as participate with their child.

PS/IS 210, The Twenty-First Century Academy for Community Leadership, offers a rich and dynamic arts program. Students in grades Pre-K through eight have weekly visual arts, music, and theater/dance classes. Middle-school students have additional opportunities for arts instruction during elective periods. The school maintains relationships with The New Victory Theater, Theater Development Fund, Upright Citizens Brigade, The Museum of Modern Art, The Cloisters, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Whitney Museum of American Art, and The Guggenheim Museum. Our music class provides piano, drumming, recorder, xylophone, and voice lessons, chorus, outreach concerts, music composition, music theory, and music history. The visual arts offerings include drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, sculpture and a clay program (with a kiln in the school arts department), 2D graphic design and digital media. Theater students engage in playwriting, acting, improv, musical theater/dance, choreography, technical theater, stage composition, directing, and staged performances in and out of school. In addition, students engage in critical thinking in all arts disciplines. Field trips to museums and other cultural organizations frequently supplement classroom instruction. Many opportunities for sharing arts experiences with the school and community exist: concerts, staged performances, graduation ceremonies and art displays in the school's hallways and display cases. Covid disrupted this this year.

Although SY 20-21 continued our collective experiences of pandemic and sociopolitical unrest, our beloved theater teacher successfully maintained the connection between our students, families, and staff and the world of professional theatre. Balancing blended and remote learning, students, parents, and staff were able to attend several virtual performances this year, and our theater teacher brought her colleagues, professional playwrights, actors, and producers to conduct virtual workshops with students. Students continued building choreography skills, deepening theater arts with distinct integration of technology, exploring all genres of the performing arts through virtual tours, classes, workshops, and talkbacks. Our year culminates with a schoolwide arts celebration of song, dance and theater to which our entire community is invited.

The arts are prominently featured at The Paula Hedbavny School, PS/MS 278. Social and emotional learning as well as multicultural learning are recognized through the arts at our school. Through visual arts classes, students study fine arts and basic elements of art. Visual arts classes are supplemented afterschool by Creative Arts Workshop. Our general music program offers drum, guitar, recorder and wood instrument instruction using curricula and methodology from Center for Arts Education and the 92nd Street Y. Fourth and fifth grade students may join the band to play flute, clarinet, saxophone, drums, trumpet or trombone. Through our partnership with the 92nd Street Y, we offer hip-hop classes for grades kindergarten through fifth grade and a music series for first through third grade students. Our school also has a School-Wide Enrichment Model program. Students join faculty-led enrichment clusters which meet weekly during the school day. Many of our enrichment clusters have artistic components to them such as fashion design, drawing the human figure, musical theater and vocal training.

Our arts program consists primarily of the courses that three full-time teachers teach. These college level courses offered to high school students and the afterschool theater program is a partnership between City College Academy of the Arts (CCAA) and The Children’s Aid Society. We have also benefited greatly from four donated pianos, three from Sing for Hope, that the students play constantly. In addition to course offerings, students may choose to participate in afterschool dance, visual arts, strings and piano instruction and our CCAA Theater club which produces a play and a musical almost every year. Courses offered in school include 6th and 8th grade visual arts, 7th grade music appreciation and strings instruction, high school music appreciation and piano instruction, high school Stage Design, Illustration and Paper Arts, Foundations of Art and Design, and Ecological Illustration. The early college program offers the following classes to high school students starting in 9th grade: Introduction to Drawing, Introduction to Painting, Intermediate Drawing, Photography, Keyboard Instruction, FIQWS Puppetry, FIQWS Earthworks and Landscape Architecture, FIQWS Musical Theater. Additionally, we partner with Carnegie Hall, the Juilliard School and The Theater Development Fund which provide instruction and enrichment activities for our students. Our goal for our arts program is to offer our students a comprehensive arts program that will spark their interest and hone their artistic skills.

The Amistad Dual Language School arts program provides a comprehensive and integrated education in the arts. With full-time faculty members in music, visual arts, dance and theater, students in grades kindergarten through six receive classes in all four arts disciplines. Middle school students choose one arts elective course per semester giving the student the opportunity to focus on their area of interest. Students have performance opportunities throughout the school year, and student artwork is exhibited throughout the year as well, both in live and virtual forums as appropriate. These forums enable the students to demonstrate their acquired knowledge, understanding and appreciation for the arts and creativity.

All students in MS 319 received some amount of music education this year. Remote students were provided with weekly, 45 minute music classes during the 3 month period when middle schools were fully remote. Students who were in person received about 90-135 minutes of music instruction a week when the school building was open. Ell and special education students received music class every day, from March-June.

All students were given the opportunity to take part in an after school virtual musical theater program. This was part of a grant by the NYC DOE Arts Office and Broadway Bound Kids. This was technically our 2nd year of the grant, although our first year was not completed because of Covid. About 15 students, grades 6-8, attended this virtual program twice a week from January through June. It ended with a culminating performance.

MS 319 did not offer Visual Art this year as it has in the past. The principal is currently looking for a full time Theater or Dance teacher for the 2021-22 school year. The principal has expressed interest in creating more after school opportunities for students in the arts next school year.

In a normal year, MS 319 offers general music to all students once a week for the full school year. Students sing, drum, play keyboard, learn basics of music notation and use Soundtrap for music composition. Students can elect to be part of the school choir which meets once a week and has performances twice a year.
Q43 1
MS 319 has several programs which help to enhance the school community: Language difference, Learning support( 12:1, 12:1;1, Dual language, transitional ) and integrating voices of all groups regardless of race, language, identity ,etc .This model of art integration not only in the art class but in multiple content areas- subjects such as :Literacy, Science, Social Studies(creating cartoons, Designing Adds for news papers , seeking for exemplars of art of specific eras, singing, music reading and writing, ) . During the three years in school students are provided opportunities to learn and integrate arts in their lives.Art is used to explore themes, ideas, self learning and identify possible bias to create a school community free of hate and no discrimination. The integration of the Arts in the curriculum, the stay alone art program in all classes allow students to learn about themselves, share ideas and develop skills that can enhance their passions (selected careers)-These paths include the integration of technology, different units of music and self access to learning in different ways-The culmination activity is a series of mini projects that end up in a play at the end of the school year integrating students from all those enhancing programs at MS 319. In addition, the final event (play) incorporates the values of the school and voices of all-Developing empathy, learning about others to develop respect for differences and collaboration and address social injustice themes.

In school year 2020-21, Alvin Ailey Dance Theater returned to CMSP 328 to offer musical theater and hip hop dance workshops. Our goals for the 2021-22 school year are to build integration of arts into our core academic subjects as well as strengthen our primary arts partnerships. In addition, we will work to build rigor in our arts programming by developing more comprehensive arts assessments. Finally, we will work to increase the number of arts experiences made available to our students and their families. These goals will become increasingly important as we return to an in-person learning environment.

Washington Heights Expeditionary Learning School (WHEELS) prepares all students for success in college and careers. WHEELS serves Pre-K through twelfth grade students, and the arts play an integral role in the school curriculum. WHEELS offers classes and afterschool programs in dance, theater, visual arts, and music. This school year students in 5th-12th grades had the opportunity to take afterschool instrumental music lessons and music theory lessons on Zoom. Elementary, middle and high school students participated in in-person and virtual music and visual arts classes and created virtual arts exhibitions and ensemble performances. Pre-K, 1st, 3rd and 4th grade students took movement classes and created dance and theater performances both in-person and virtually. In addition to standalone arts classes, visual arts was integrated with science and English Language Arts (ELA) content in 6th grade interdisciplinary "expedition" courses, and music was integrated with science, social studies and ELA content in 7th grade interdisciplinary "expedition" courses.
Q43 1
Our school has had two full-time, certified visual arts teachers, two full-time, certified music teachers, and one full-time, certified dance teacher since 2019. One of our certified visual arts teachers, and one of our certified music teachers, are certified in other additional areas. In the past our Annual Arts in Schools Report has inaccurately stated that we only have one certified full-time visual art teacher, when we in fact have two, and only one certified full-time music teacher, when we in fact have two. This school year, our middle grades visual art and music teachers have taught standalone visual art and music classes, and have also integrated art and music with ELA, science and social studies classes, so STARS does not accurately reflect the number of hours and the extent to which these teachers have been teaching art and music. Also, some students who take after-school music lessons this school year are not taking the lessons for credit, so these classes do not appear on STARS.

The High School For Excellence and Innovation (HSEI) offers students an opportunity to hone their art skills while developing a strong foundation in the arts. Advanced Placement Art History has been an interest to our students as they begin to establish college credits in art. CDOS Programs will be introduced to HSEI next year offering the students an amazing opportunity to gain career development skills and graduate with a CDOS credential. All arts classes are aligned with the College Board and New York State Standards.

The College Academy (TCA) elevates students creatively and intellectually to express their ideas in visual form to perceive not only historical contexts, but how it relates to the dynamics of culture in community based art. The College Academy’s visual arts courses range from art foundations, intermediate level AP Prep as well as Advanced Placement Studio Art. In Art Foundations, students learn how to apply the Elements of Art and Principles of Design in basic level drawing and design skills from a large scope of art genres. In Intermediate Art, students are encouraged to use symbolic themes within their work to create deeper meaning. In Advanced Art, the goal is for students to develop their own artistic voice and prepare them to work professionally for the future study of art after high school. Students of all grade levels celebrate their work with two large art shows in the winter and spring. Our photography class covers the use of Digital DSLR camera controls, including f/stops, shutter speeds, film speeds and the production of a correct exposure. Students learn composition, criticism, lighting and the history and invention of photography. This includes, exposure triangle and creative use of the camera controls, including depth of field, action motion, shadows and light, portraits, still lifes, and compositions based on the principles and elements of design. It is our ultimate goal at TCA to celebrate and provide a platform of growth through visual arts for all students.

The Wilton School continues to engage students and integrate the arts into the content areas. Our arts program consists of a glee club, upper-grades dance group, African drumming and Lincoln Center Afro Latin Jazz and Disney Theater residencies (which will continue next year). Participating students are able to cultivate a deeper understanding of different cultures as they explore world music and other areas of the performing arts. The arts are at the core of our curriculum, enhancing the potential of contiguous exploration of self-expression, helping students make basic connections between curriculum and practical text-to-self applications. As a school community, our staff bands together in support of the arts. Several teachers volunteer their time to conduct various arts programs before and afterschool. Our past partnerships with the Morgan Library Book Project and Victory Theater continue to inspire our students in theater arts and the production of their own narratives in book form. We have received a Title IV Well-Rounded grant and another from our local councilwoman that has aided us in the purchase of much needed musical instruments. We look forward to securing available grant funding to expand our current arts program to include visual arts and musical programs for all students. We continue to partner with parent and teacher volunteers to ensure that all students are artfully engaged. Many of our cultural and arts programs have been both virtual and in-person.

We service the poorest congressional district in the nation. Situated in the heart of the South Bronx neighborhood of Mott Haven our overall population is predominantly comprised of English language learners. We have observed that our Arts clubs have decreased the rate of violent incidents in the school to a bare minimum. We desperately need the Arts. Through the Arts students are able to make basic text-to-self connections that assure their academic success and save lives.

In continuance of our embrace and provision of arts related programs and services to our student body we also have teachers trained and implementing the Visual Thinking Strategies program. PS 30 continues to engage the entire student body via during a weekly Club Hour program featuring Visual Arts, Glee, Performing Arts, Book Making, Photography, Cheerleading and Dance programs. Teachers on every grade also prepare programs for monthly thematic assemblies via musical, choral and dramatic performances. The Arts continue to be at the center of our core curriculum. We will continue to form partnerships with cultural and community organizations that specialize in bringing the arts in their varying forms to all of our students as well as securing private funding to ensure the continuation of many of our programs. Many of our programs have adopted a virtual dynamic to ensure that remote and blended students receive and have access to optimal art instruction.
