As we all know, this 2020-2021 school year was very challenging to keep our students engaged. We tried out best for the students to dance and keep moving for their mind, body, and health through time. They worked on performing virtual shows for the classes and worked individually on choreography that really described them and only them. While creating individual choreography, the students were allowed to choose their own songs and styles. The teacher would give them feedback along the way. The arts teacher gave feedback whether it was in person or through the Google meet piece that describes each and every one of them. Students would be able to give positive feedback to one another in person. It was more beneficial than speaking over a device like is typically done. They used props, put on shows, and wore costumes. This made the students feel special. The teacher was able to guide them through dance this way positively.
Q43 1
All of our students were able to access arts instruction either virtually through the computer or in person. We used our g suite to access all of it as many of our students were remote.

All students at Bronx Community High School are required to take two arts classes during the course of their high school education in order to graduate. The courses are aligned with the NYS Standards for Learning in the Arts, the NYCDOE Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts and the Common Core Learning Standards. In the visual arts, these include art making, literacy in the arts, historical and cultural connections, and career and lifelong learning in the arts. There is an emphasis on art making and the exploration of materials in each class. During class, students work towards mastery of media and a strong conceptual base for the value of art in education and as a vehicle for student voice in a community. Several times per year students are provided the opportunity to visit cultural organizations around the city and, when possible, outside artists and professionals are brought into classes to teach and discuss careers in the arts. We offer our students a variety of courses such as Urban Art, Design it Yourself (DIY), Printmaking, 3-D Design, Art & Design, and Art for Change.

We offer an outstanding range of arts programs, ranging from theater to Minecraft courses. Students are challenged to bring their thoughts to life using traditional and digital platforms. We would like to continue to pivot towards the digital arts, leading students with technology and 21st century skills.

Our goal is to continue to support students in making their thinking visible, whether it is by capturing an image or using their voices to convey a mood.

The arts program at Bronx Bridges High School centers upon the discipline of visual arts. The visual arts curriculum spans 9-12 grades and is aligned with English Language Arts (ELA) vocabulary protocols and discussion techniques. There is a large emphasis on using scaffolds to teach students the fundamentals of art and design in English as 79.5% of our students are English Language Learners. During this time of remote learning, the arts curriculum shifted and incorporated new digital platforms to teach the students the principals of art and design as well as computer art and graphic design. Students used platforms such as Autodraw and Kleki.com to create digital drawings. Students used Adobe Spark, Google Sites and Canva.com to create graphic works such as logos and websites. Student work was showcased on the school website.

Due to the pandemic, students were taught both visual arts and music remotely this year.
Q43 1
We are a title one school, many students come from low income households and have not been exposed to the arts. We have not been able to take many trips due to the push for “instructional days” and the pressure of test scores. Once covid hit, the students have been in remote arts classes.

Due to COVID and remote instruction, the visual arts program had to adapt in that materials normally available to students/teacher in the school building were absent. Most art work was done digitally with some other creative projects using supplies students had around the house.
Q43 1
We are a small transfer school working with overage, undercredited students trying to make up credits to graduate. Consequently, we have less time with the student (not 4 years) and fewer places for electives once the art reqs have been completed.

P.S. 28X is an elementary school that firmly believes that the inclusion of arts-related instruction does have a significant influence in the overall well being in matters pertaining to childhood development. Therefore, we have engaged a number of art-related programs to provide instruction to our students. Our goal is to use the arts as a method of heightening student's ability to both express themselves in a creative and socially acceptable manner as well as to bring greater levels of student appreciation to all art-related mediums.

Public School 35X is a staunch supporter and proponent of arts instruction. We believe: "The Arts have a power to deepen and extend our understanding of ourselves and the world," (Carr 2005). Educational research indicates studying the arts cultivates essential qualities students need to succeed in the 21st century. The arts promote creativity, cooperation, communication, cultural understanding and problem-solving. Learning in the arts nurtures active engagement, disciplined and sustained attention, persistence and risk taking. Arts education also increases attendance and educational aspirations. Our commitment to college and career readiness includes instruction in the arts: dance, theater, music, and visual/graphic art (technology). Students in kindergarten through third grade receive arts instruction across all areas, built into the curriculum, and culminating projects display what students have learned. In addition, students in grades four and five receive art, music and visual/graphic art (technology) instruction as a specialty called "majors".

Our goal is to provide all children with a well-rounded education. That entitlement requires introduction to, understanding of, and appreciation for the arts. The arts are an avenue to understanding our history and ourselves. Our goal is to increase the exposure of our students to the arts, giving students performance opportunities which will lead to increased listening, speaking, and motor skills. By providing students with these experiences, they are also given the opportunity to nurture the talent they discover within themselves.

Public School 53 offers music and visual arts for select classes in 3K through fifth grade. Throughout the school year, students learn how to play various musical instruments and those who participate in the visual arts program develop artistic skills in that discipline. The school's arts program cultivates our students’ creativity and prepares them to be critical thinkers.

Community School 55 has a partnership with Windows Of HipHop. This year we had a music, visual arts, and dance program. We are planning on opening a Windows of HipHop Music studio in 2021. We also have a partnership with Education Through Music and we had a full-time music teacher. Finally, we have partnerships with SCAN Harbor and the Bronx Children's Museum to provide afterschool music options.

Visual Arts classes were not in session this year due to the pandemic
Q42 1 Rev
The arts are a priority at P.S. 58. We encourage collaborations between our visual arts teacher and classroom teachers to promote ways to engage students through the arts. We believe in encouraging the talents of the whole child and celebrating the arts in performance, art shows and competitions. During virtual learning, classroom teachers prepared students through song and dance for class performances. With assistance from Bronx Arts Ensemble, our choir is growing and is becoming more popular among the school. Unfortunately due to the pandemic, the visual arts program was halted this year. We expect to continue and expand our program next year.

Students explore a wide range of media and complete individual and collaborative projects. Painting, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture are all part of the curriculum. Students are encouraged to be inventive and original. The curriculum is designed to build on art skills and experiences as students advance through the grades.
Music instruction sequential and comprehensive for all students in the school. Students learn about proper singing techniques in a choir to become musically literate. Students also learn to play musical instruments in an ensemble.

Pre-Covid 19 pandemic, P.S. 73 had implemented a new Art program assigning an Art Teacher to a regular scheduled cluster program. During the Pandemic (2020-2021), we assigned our Art cluster to a complete virtual program. All grades were serviced on a weekly basis, virtually. Art instruction included ‘Social/Emotional’ learning (SEL). SEL involves skills that increases a child’s confidence, help them develop relationships and promote their use of cognitive thinking to work through various social situations. This was a strong component of our Visual Arts. In 2020, Public School 73 continued our partnership with the Bronx Museum of Arts. This academic year, students participate in the same Bronx Museum of Arts program via Google Meet. Our aim, continues, for our students to foster an appreciation for aesthetics, creativity and freedom of expression through a diverse range of media. Aligning the Next Generation Learning Standards to our Art Curriculum, allows us to create a deeper connection in Art. During remote learning, we have worked on providing all grades with virtual Art lessons. Teachers have also integrated the visual arts into their remote learning programs. With the hopes of all students returning to our school building, we will continue to expose our students to the world of visual arts and its splendor through in-person learning and our partnership of the Bronx Museum of Arts.

Our goal is to involve our students in a variety of creative, artistic, and imaginative experiences which will enhance self-esteem, problem-solving skills, aptitude, concentration, and listening skills. We try to develop in our students an understanding and appreciation of the arts through participation in art residency programs. We provide the instrument for the integration of the arts with the Core Curriculum.

Public School 109 believes it is important to cultivate students' interests and talents in the arts. With one full-time visual arts teacher, students have been immersed in the arts across different grade levels. This year artwork has been completed and displayed through art critiques. The visual arts teacher at PS 109 has attended several professional development workshops virtually this year, including inquiry work about how to make the art room more culturally responsive. In addition, our virtual students have had the opportunity to work with three teaching artists from Marquise Studios this year and are working on a culminating song that will be presented to the school in its completion.

This was an odd year with COVID and Arts Instruction being a great deal online
Q42 1 Rev
Public School 114 envisions providing the students, parents and staff with opportunities to participate in drama, music, art as cultural activities that are age and grade appropriate.
This year, with COVID restrictions and remote classes, we had several Remote Arts partners. We will continue getting the services of outside professional artists who will conduct hands-on workshops and on-stage performances with our students. We envision having celebrations in which our families and the community is invited, showcasing visual and performing arts such as stage performances and arts fairs where students can display their creativity through video, computer, musical and artistic displays, bringing out the talent within our students. We will continue to have many parent-engagement activities, both in person and virtually, bringing families and community members together to celebrate the arts. We are a Title 1 school in the South Bronx. Although our students live in an area surrounded by cultural facilities, many have never
experienced them. We like to bring out the creativity and passion for the arts in all of our learners, many of them being English as a New Language (ENL) and Students with Disabilities (SWD) learners. The arts are part of a universal language that all can understand.

The school's arts program guides students to develop their ideas into creative works of art. Students learn about the arts through lessons aligned to the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts and The Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. Students make connections through the arts to expand their learning in other content areas, such as math, science and literature. Students learn through the creative process by integrating critical thinking skills in art projects. The school's arts program establishes ways of collaboration among teachers to provide an arts foundation that enhances creativity. The school encourages creativity by including the arts in everyday learning.

Arts are integrated into our school's celebrations and curriculum, and students have a variety of opportunities to express themselves creatively as part of their learning. Our school has a strong extracurricular theater arts program that incorporates musical theater as well as Shakespeare performances. The MH3 theater program runs tryouts and rehearsals throughout the year for both spring and fall productions. We also have an arts club that meets weekly afterschool and works with a variety of media such as painting and drawing. Our music program includes introductory lessons in guitar. During the school day, we also offer arts-based enrichment clusters in areas such as drawing, computer graphics, and dance as part of our school's Talent Period, which is held weekly.

Our school's arts program consists of music, visual arts and dance. We have had dance for four years, visual arts for three years and music for one year. Previous to this we had Reader's Theater. Our program is very necessary for the children we serve. They come from a low income neighborhood and are not exposed to very much. Through our arts program, they have access to a plethora of ways to express themselves through the arts. We plan to continue next year with dance, music, and visual arts.

The PS 163 arts programs are focused on developing students’ artistic learning in order for each student to learn and to succeed to their own highest levels of achievement. Students engage in learning and projects that are focused on the skills and standards addressed in the NYCDOE Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts and the NYS Learning Standards for the Arts. Our lessons are used to teach, encourage, and expand our students’ creative and critical thinking skills. Students are able to explore a wide variety of visual arts and music techniques and materials while they develop skills in self expression and become confident learners. Students self assess, peer assess, critique, and refine their work. They are encouraged to share ideas and work on assignments that entail research, collaboration and cooperative learning. Through the arts, students learn to respect and appreciate multicultural ideas by gaining an understanding of the vital role the arts play in societies and cultures around the world. Our 2021 PS 163 Art Expo was presented virtually and shared with our community. Students' works were promoted through exhibition and submissions to numerous art competitions this year. Two of our students won positions at the Bronx Borough Arts Festival and one student placed as a semi-finalist in the PS Art competition. Arts teachers engaged students in relevant and engaging learning during both live and remote sessions this year as the arts remain a vital educational focus for our school.

In previous years, Public School 170 has been proud to say that we have been able to offer our students access to instruction in the four main arts disciplines through a combination of school-based arts educators and a partnership with Marquis Studios. All of our students' arts experience is comprised of both skills-based instruction and a connection to the discipline's cultural background and vocabulary. Instruction across all disciplines is aligned with or surpasses benchmarks outlined in the NYCDOE Blueprint sfor Teaching and Learning in the Arts. Students have additional access to arts programs provided by our school's arts specialists and cultural partner in arts-based extracurricular and pull-out programs. It is our goal that our students continue to find success and grow both as performers and artists, pursuing the arts well after they leave our school as artists, advocates, or appreciators. This school year, as a result of Covid medical accommodations, some staff members were reassigned in ways that impacted the variety of arts education experiences for our students. However, we are hopeful that, in the upcoming year, funding and programming will be sufficient to provide a return to our previously robust arts programming.

We have continued our plan to expand arts education in the Shakespeare School. To realize the plans' goals, each teacher incorporates the arts into their day-to-day curriculum. Equitable arts opportunities for students take place daily as the culture of the Shakespeare School continues to be strengthened and supported schoolwide. In order to support this vision, we have identified and developed an art studio, a classroom solely purposed with being the space to provide visual arts instruction from our licensed visual arts teacher. In addition to the day-to-day incorporation of the arts, we also have two Project Arts afterschool programs. One is theater based and the other is visual arts based. We have provided our students with field trips to explore NYC arts. We have included an art gallery exhibit that displays student artwork throughout the school. A classroom teacher is providing a voluntary afterschool program for drumming. We have begun a partnership with Renaissance Youth to provide our fifth grade students with music instruction. Our efforts toward a stronger arts education here at Public School 199 is with the hope to spark policy, future action plans and budget recommendations for implementing a sequential and standards-based curriculum in the arts outlined at EVERY grade level. This process has fostered further community awareness and hopes to provide the structure and catalyst for sustainable relationships between the Shakespeare School and key arts stakeholders.

PS 204 seeks to ensure that students receive a well-rounded education which includes instruction across the arts even during a pandemic year. We partner with cultural organizations to provide standards-based instruction in the arts as well as maintain a full-time music teacher position. The music teacher provides instruction to all of the students in the school. Students sing, dance, move, and play along with traditional songs from many cultures. The program also includes instruction on a variety of instruments: guitar, piano, drums, and recorder. ArtsConnection provides virtual instruction in hip hop dance to students in grade 4. The school has a partnership with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater for fifth graders. Visual arts instruction, provided by Studio in a School gives students the opportunity to explore the creative process using a variety of two and three dimensional media. Art exhibitions allow students to present their work to the public virtually. We look forward to returning to the Disney Kids theater program after the pandemic. In previous years, students have put on performances of, Suessical the Musical, The Aristocats, Willy Wonka, The Lion King, Aladdin, and Jungle Book. Our children regularly participate in field trips to New York's world-renownehid museums.

We partner with Bronx Arts Ensemble, and they provide theater, dance, and visual arts for our scholars. We also partner with AOC who provide percussion for our scholars. We partner with elite drumming to provide drumming instruction for the scholars as well.
Q43 1
WE started to revamp our art program this year to provide a bevy of ARTS for our scholars. Historically this school has only had traditional art. As the new Principal I wanted to restore art back in my school. My school is 99% title 1 and would benefit from a strong art program along with rigorous instruction.

At Intermediate School 232, the arts program started the school year in the right direction. The visual arts teacher makes each lesson fun and the kids enjoy it. All the art lesson are hands-on activities. After students are done with their art assignment/project, they get an opportunity to write about their process and share with their classmates.

Our arts program is an integral part of our students’ academic program. During the school day, all students enroll in arts-based electives, including Instrumental Music, Visual Arts, Dance, Performing Arts, Computer Design, Crafts, and Woodworking. All of our freshmen take a Fundamentals of Art course and attend two art-based field trips in their first year of high school. Three fourths of our sophomores take a Beginner's Photography class while a quarter of the cohort moved on to an Advanced Photography course. Upperclassmen have access to more advanced courses like Pottery and Advanced Painting. After school, there are a series of arts-based programs open to all students, including dance, visual arts, 3D printing, and music. During the summer, we run "Camp AMS," an all-day program combining academics and arts. This camp is open to all middle school students, including those mandated for summer school. Throughout the year, all of our arts programs include performances and displays. Students invite the community to share and celebrate their acquired artistic skills.

This year in visual arts students are continuing to explore a variety of materials and art media while navigating both the remote and blended learning models in the face of a global pandemic. Artists have been encouraged to consider the resources and spaces that surround them as tools for creating while infusing elements of social justice and social-emotional learning into their art-making. Artists have developed a new artistic skillset that focuses on STEAM and technology in particular as an exciting, beneficial, and cutting edge pathway for creating. This years themes have included community, cooperation, activism, empowerment, imaginative thinking, and voice. It is our goal that scholars participate in a well rounded, inclusive, and culturally responsive art making experience based on guiding the whole individual at P.S. 274.

The art program at our school offers students an introduction to the foundations of art with an emphasis on the exploration of a wide range of materials, processes, and techniques. Our courses offer the opportunity to learn how to analyze artworks through critiques and writing, with a focus on using artistic language. Our school's goal is to focus on real-world skills that are displayed through project based-learning and art projects that allow our students to test those skills. This intent was carried throughout the pandemic using the Google classroom's digital format while meeting students through Zoom. In addition, our students have participated in competitions and exhibitions such as Illustrate Against Hate Design Competition and the Bronx Arts Festival Exhibition.

CIS 303 provides visual arts classes to sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students for the duration of one marking period per year. The visual arts curriculum follows the benchmarks outlined by the NYCDOE Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts and guidelines from the Danielson Framework for Teaching. Classes are designed to develop observational and analytical skills through exploration of the Elements of Art and Principles of Designs using a variety of media. Units begin with introductory techniques and progress to complex individual and group projects. Student artworks are showcased in slide show presentations on the Google Classroom platform due to the Covid pandemic. The overall goal of the art program is to develop skills that enable students to make connections across content areas and engage in self-expression. In addition, equity is focused upon through the exploration of culture and identity via artist studies and special projects. Students demonstrating strong artistic potential and interest are encouraged to pursue portfolio preparation for specialized high schools.

CMSP has the goal of exposing all students to various art disciplines. CMSP327 continues to make key investments in providing arts instruction to all 6-12 students. We have a full-time a visual arts teacher and a full-time dance teachers. We have a part-time drama teacher and a part-time music teacher. CMSP made strategic schedule decisions to ensure that students would be exposed to at least one form of arts education during the hybrid school year: 6th grade Music, 7th grade Studio Art, and 8th grade Dance. Our drama program expanded beyond the two courses offered to also include multiple virtual plays, including our first bilingual play. We have also continued to lean on partnerships with our community based organization to ensure afterschool programs have arts instruction included.

Students in high school grades were able to take one to two semesters of visual arts. Students worked on standards-aligned visual arts assignments to build their secondary school arts portfolios through painting, sculpture and graphic design. Third year students were able to design independent study courses in the visual arts according to interest and school capacity. Some students in high school also received an independent arts study using whichever programs they wished.

At our school, we offer art through interdisciplinary courses, including Poetry & Spoken Word, Hip Hop Science Education, Sociological Perspectives Through Film, and Mindfulness Movement. Our content area teachers devise these interdisciplinary courses to allow space for students to dive deeper into their content using creative media and structures. Additionally, Bronx Museum of the Arts has joined with us to offer a once per week residency and support our students with tackling social issues through art. We also work with our community based organization partners to offer schoolwide art-based events, including Paint Nites that are also anchored in social emotional learning and wellness. We also offer our Excellence Clubs which are teacher and student-led creative expression extracurriculars, including Anime and Theater Clubs.
Q43 1
Due to a limited school enrollment and budget, we cannot sustain a full time arts teacher.

Our small school, serving grades six through twelve, adheres to the New York State Education Department mandates for all high school diplomas that require students to earn a half unit of study in visual arts and another half unit of study in music. All middle school students and upperclassmen in high school earn their arts appreciation credits through seminar-style courses that culminate in a term project after meeting the necessary amount of classroom hours. Our school's visual arts and theater teachers work with students to produce original works that are presented and shared on Google Classrooms and/or in person classrooms.

At Public School 443, The Family School, we believe that art affords students unique ways of knowing and expressing what they know. Through art, students extend their aesthetic awareness and judgement by making art that communicates their ideas, perceptions, and feelings. Learning experiences in art enable learners to understand the role of art throughout history and in their own society. Art experiences help students to develop: • an enriched appreciation for works of art through time and culture • the ability to respond to others’ artwork with sensitivity and respect • a heightened awareness of the role art has in lifelong learning • confidence in themselves as makers of art with the potential for using their abilities in future art-related and other careers At our school, students have access to two full-time art teachers: music and the visual arts. Our students work with professional visual artists bringing their passion, creativity, knowledge, and skill to the classroom, guiding students to discover and develop their own creative expressions.

Grant Avenue Elementary School is committed to the arts as a critical way in which our students learn more about the world and more about themselves. Typically, our students experience quality dance and music instruction throughout the school year with our specialty teachers. Students receive additional arts instruction from cultural organizations across the city, including Story Pirates and Musica Viva NY, thanks in large part to our partnership with Change for Kids. Even with the curricular changes brought about by remote and hybrid learning this school year, students PK-5 have had the opportunity to engage in regular music and visual arts instruction as well as theatre- and dance-based residencies both synchronously and asynchronously. We pride ourselves on engaging with parents through the arts, and together we celebrate our talented students and look forward to once again showcasing their work at annual musical performance events: concerts, dance recitals, a fifth grade musical and posted displays of student artworks throughout the year.

Scholars have the opportunity to function as artists and actors, as well as learners of the arts. The goal of the arts department is to develop our scholar’s knowledge of arts and art disciplines, skills in those disciplines, creative thinking, and responses to the art around them. Mott Hall scholars receive both visual and performing arts classes each year of the MYP programme. Heightened awareness of creative thinking helps our scholars to develop their self-reflection skills in all classes and become more self-regulated learners. Across both visual art and theatre classes, scholars will track their progress, explore new ways of thinking, and reflect on their work in their IB process journal.

At The Bronx School for Law, Government and Justice, we believe in the importance of the arts for our students. We also believe in tapping into students' interests, creativity and abilities. In support of these beliefs and in addition to our school themed electives, we offer arts focused afterschool programs. Our afterschool programs include theater and fine arts workshops as well as opportunities to see on and off- Broadway performances and visit art museums. Each year, our students choose from a range of electives in the arts based on their interests. Given that art is both product and performance based, students participating in arts courses and arts workshops share their talent and learning by performing in and out-of-school. As we transitioned to remote learning this school year, students engaged in new technologies to create and share work products virtually.
