Our 2020-2021 arts program included visual arts and theater. All 234 students received art for a half year. The theater program included about 12 students who met after school. They produced a virtual show of Shrek Jr.

For 2021-2022, we will add music back to the program, while retaining visual arts and the after school theater program.

The 2020-2021 school year was like no other, here and around the world. Nonetheless, we were able to provide in person and remote instruction every period, every day, to every child.
This year students in grades 6-8 are programmed for both visual arts and performing arts (music) instruction. Each class is programmed for two periods of art and music instruction weekly.

Students at Pelham Academy have access to their own laptops and google accounts. Teachers have constructed google classrooms where students can find all relevant activities for their classes. Teachers set up their google meets and students get to attend virtual, live instruction. Those who opt to have in person instruction received in person instruction with an in person teacher.

In the art class students development many forms of visual arts, culminating in the development of an arts portfolio.
In the music classroom, students work on creating their own digital story incorporating their own voices and digital sound to enhance the story. The students then moved on to creating their own beats.

Throughout the school year students participate in virtual out-of-the-classroom experiences virtually visiting arts high schools and museums. In 2021-2022, we look forward to once again visiting local art museums and exhibitions. In addition to continuing our partnership with organizations such as Materials for the Arts and open rehearsals of a music entity (specifically in the past: The NY Philharmonic).

The Matilda Avenue School is in the sixth year of existence servicing approximately two hundred and fifty students in kindergarten, first, second, third, fourth, and fifth grades. Our arts curriculum includes a partnership with Education Through Music which provides general music instruction to all of our students for forty five minutes a week. Students in all grades also received a unit of dance instruction provided by a physical education teacher forty five minutes three times a week for six weeks during their physical education classes. Students also receive visual arts instruction forty five minutes one time a week provided by a cluster teacher. Classroom teachers incorporate theater into their literacy curriculum within the classroom. Due to the pandemic, we were not able to bring in additional art residencies, but as we continue to grow, we hope to be able to offer additional arts instruction.

The visual arts program in our school is both engaging and rigorous. Students take ownership of their artwork developing portfolios throughout the school year. They use rubrics and assessments that provide students with room to make improvements and understand how to create the best work possible. During one semester, 3rd and 4th grade students participate in the Ballet Hispanico program which this year was a virtual residency that taught students a variety of Latin dances at home. Our music arts program, Education Through Music, incorporates singing as well as instruments for kindergarten through 8th grade. In the past, we have had upper and lower level bands and choir who play concerts for our school and parents. We hope to continue the concerts and performances in the next school year when all students are fully in-person. Our arts program works to create well-rounded artists that work to find their niche in the art world whether it be performing or visual arts. The visual arts program has evolved to include more parent involvement. As in the past, next year parents will continue to assist in the classroom and receive monthly invitations to art shows and arts events afterschool such as Paint Nights.

We are happy to continue our long-standing partnership with several school arts program. Education Through Music (ETM) has been partnering thoughout the year both in-person and remotely. This has been integral to developing our ambassadors as musicians over the course of the year. We have also welcomed a Notes in Motion teacher into our classrooms this spring. The teacher is currently working with our 6th grade ambassadors to produce a culminating performance in mid-June. Dancing in the Classrooms is another amazing organization that our 8th grade ambassadors have really enjoyed. We are currently seeking options to bring them back during our Summer Rising sessions.
Q43 1
Our Arts program has been an integral part of our school culture since our founding in 2011. The restrictions created by remote learning and classroom distancing have hindered our ability this year but we have already brought Notes in Motion back in for our 6th grade ambassadors each week. They are currently working on their culuminating project in mid-June

The mission of the Baychester Middle School Theatre Department is an all-inclusive program that inspires its participants and audiences to appreciate and understand the arts through quality live productions and educational opportunities. Studies have shown that students with sustained involvement in theater show substantial improvement in reading-proficiency, self-concept and motivation, and higher levels of empathy for others. At Baychester, we have witnessed first-hand the confidence that is built, the friendships that are formed, and the passions that are developed within our program. For the past two years, all sixth grade students have participated in a daily 50-minute theater course in which they learn about playwriting, design (costume, set, makeup), acting and directing basics, history of theater, script analysis, and more. There is one Blackbox production each fall and any sixth, seventh, or eighth grader may audition. There is one large-scale musical each spring for which any student in the school may audition.

Q42 1 Rev
The arts program at Pelham Preparatory Academy focuses on visual arts and musical arts. The visual arts program is charged with producing the majority of the artwork displayed throughout the building, including sculptures, murals, and other artistic pieces. The music department exposes students to many levels of the arts including music appreciation classes and vocal and instrumental classes. This school year, all learning for the arts was done remotely. Students studied music, graphic design, and traditional art methods such as drawing and painting digitally engaging in various programs online. Still, our partnerships with the Studio Art Institute, Career Visions, Inc., Lehman College, and Opening Act (to name a few) flourished.
Q43 1
Pelham Preparatory Academy gained its first visual art teacher 3 years ago and since has grown by working with more partnerships and participating in more competitions, professional development, and programs. There is also one music teacher and one part-time graphic design teacher. This year, all arts instruction was done remotely for the entirety of the school year. Students worked on iPads and laptops, were mailed home supplies, and also worked with any supplies their parents had. Students also shifted to creating more digital art than every before.

At P.S. 6X, our students have engaged in rich music curricula taught by our music teacher. The teacher has integrated English Language Arts(ELA) and math elements to support student learning and achievement with emphasis on culturally responsive teaching. We continue to provide opportunities for all students, including English Language Learners (ELL) and Students With Disabilities (SWD) to make meaning from text and to solve computational and word problems that are part of daily life. Through the 4Rs Program and our unique social justice program, students have read, studied the actions of lead and secondary characters, and through visualization and prediction, engaged in role play. Students have also engaged in writing and math celebrations with classmates and their families. Music and dance celebrations aligned with school events have supported student expression and technique. We strive to "be our best, love learning, and inspire the world". Students have been taught using a variety of musical modalities. Students have been engaged in Orff, Kodaly, Creative Movement, and Conversational Solfege methodologies. Students have also learned to be "tuneful, beatful, and artful" in all grade levels. Students in the upper grades have also composed their own unique musical pieces.

There are several goals that are incorporated into the arts program at PS 47: Goal 1- to provide a variety of art disciplines and create a continuum from k to 5 that will allow children to explore and discover their talents; Goal 2- to develop a lifelong love and appreciation for the arts; Goal 3- to infuse the arts into all content areas, allowing teachers to provide differentiation based on individual student modalities and talents. PS 47 has adopted the Reggio Emelia philosophy which originated in Southern Italy. This philosophy is basically a ""projects approach"" to literacy and content area studies. Through the Reggio Emelia philosophy, children work cooperatively to develop art projects and culminating activities that include researching, writing, and oral presentations; Goal 4- to align the arts with the New York State Standards for the Arts; creating and performing in the arts; knowing and using arts materials and resources; responding to and analyzing works of art.

During the school year 2020-202,PS 57 continued their commitment to the Arts with Visual Art and Technology teachers during the normal school day. Many art activities, projects and concepts were explored and enjoyed by students. They engaged in building with Minecraft during Technology and explored many drawing concepts during Art class. Student work was shared and highlighted with students, staff and parents.
LEAP and Marquis Studios continued with various Art based courses throughout most of the year. Students attended dance, drumming, folk tales, storytelling, visual arts, step, chess, and theatre classes.
In addition, during the regular school day, 4 classroom teachers and 25 students engaged in a video/ film making project “Life as a student/doing the right thing." This was an original script written, filmed,, and performed by students for the school body. Scholars really enjoyed and appreciated this project as they were able to experience first hand how to be a film maker, editor, writer, and actor.
Classroom teachers / students presented a Jerusalema school dance performance. A cumulating video "Jerusalema" was prepared and shown to the entire school body. A feeling of school community was established with this dance. Other events such as Paint Night and an Indian dance performance helped to achieve our inclusive school community.
At PS 57 we strive to give scholars support, understanding, and opportunities so that they can become their best self.

Q42 1 Rev
This year was definitely a struggle for us in the Arts Department, but we found ways to incorporate the arts into our daily lessons. We used project based learning to ensure there was an arts extension to our core subjects. We also were fortunate to have Society of Educational Arts (SEA) work with our students remotely and provide links to performances. Teachers used technology during remote learning to provide opportunities for students to express themselves through the arts.

We currently have music as a full class and CWP working with all 6th graders. We were able to offer music remotely for all students, and offer the Gibney dance Troupe as part of intro to dance and SEL work for all students and staff. The goal is to create a program that allows for choice and uses arts throughout the curriculum. NY Edge (our CBO) offers dance after school, as well, for all grades.

We are building on our goals for next year and bringing in a music program for an additional 2 days per week to build on the program to create a chorus and plan for other programs, including technology and music.

We are also using arts in ELA, following the CWP format and investing in art materials. We will also be working on a school mural of social justice in the field of science.

Aligned with the NYS Standards and the NYC Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts, 7th grade students were provided with music instruction, and 8th grade students were provided with visual arts instruction. In music, students learn about key moments in music history and a basic knowledge of music theory and notation. They have opportunities to compose music using technology, including the digital music programs Soundtrap and Chrome Music Lab Song Maker. Due to health regulations, students were unable to utilize the guitar lab this year. In visual arts, students learn to use a variety of art media and techniques, including digital media, along with studying many artists and their work. Students learn to critique their own work and the work of other students. We collaborate with our school-based organization, Learning through an Expanded Arts Program (LeAp), for several afterschool arts programs. Our music teacher maintains the MS 129 Guitar Ensemble by holding virtual band class after school. They will be again performing in the Bronx Borough Arts Festival. This year we were one of the middle schools selected for the Shubert Foundation/MTI Broadway Junior program. Students participated in weekly rehearsals and performed the first-ever virtual production of Shrek, Jr. at MS 129. For the 2021-2022 school year, we plan to launch a Graphic Design studio class, where students will receive technology through arts instruction and experience the use of our new 3D printer lab.

Our arts program uses the strength and flexibility of the arts to allow each student to build belief in themselves and recognize the significance of their voices. Our focus is on the socio-emotional learning of our students. Working with our school's social workers, we use the power of the arts to help them find their voices and express their thoughts. Our students learn to make real world connections and understand art as social commentary. We provide theater arts, both classical and contemporary, and visual arts in school. We infuse all five strands of the arts into all core subjects as well. Our strength in earning grants allowed us to send materials home so our students could still speak through art in this pandemic year. Through our five-year grant from The Matisse Foundation, we have been able to provide our students with an in-school residency with Urban Word NYC and to build a diverse afterschool program that meets the interests of our students. Brave Hearts Foundation Drum Line, F.Y.R.E. Zone Chorus and Cre-8-A-Craft each enhance our students’ understanding of themselves through art. Our Matisse Foundation grant also enables trips to museums and Broadway shows. Our goals for next year include performing our first musical using iPads to develop short films and building relationships with the theatre departments at local colleges to provide our students with a more intimate experience of a performance as well as continuing to publish books of poetry and artwork

PS 196 is an elementary school that firmly believes that the inclusion of Arts related instruction does have a significant influence in the overall well being in matters pertaining to childhood development. Our goal is to use the arts as a method of heightening student's abilities to both express themselves in a creative and socially acceptable manner, as well as to bring greater levels of student appreciation to all art related mediums.
The arts harbor a sense of value and accomplishment. The arts help foster an individual sense of identity which in turn helps a student develop as an individual. The arts help students to make decision as well as problem solve.

The arts program at PS 214 evolves around visual arts and music. These programs are introduced during the early childhood and elementary schools and mastered in the middle school. The students have been exposed to digital art as well as composing their music though a cloud based recording studio called Soundtrap. Students are given opportunities to submit artwork to Bronx Borough Arts Festival, PS Art and other art competitions provided by the city and more recently through the SOS Boost program through Center for Educational Innovation (CEI) focusing on racial injustice. Our schools annual talent show is a way for our students to showcase singing, dancing, and music. Our school is committed to all our students being engaged in an arts program that brings awareness to social wellbeing and a program that allows students to express their feelings towards social issues and will continue to create more artistic expression opportunities in the years to come.

We have made huge strides in restoring the "performing" and "arts" to the School of Performing Arts. This school year there are teachers who provide full-time instruction in dance, band, chorus and theater arts. Through our partnerships with Music Theater International and Renaissance Youth Center, students are learning to play instruments together such as the drums, guitar, keyboards, and horns. Our chorus has expanded from 60 to 110 members and are scheduled to compete in music festivals. Our band and chorus learn in a newly renovated, acoustic and sound-proof room. The dance program operates out of a newly renovated dance room complete with wall mirrors, dance barre, and high tech sound system. Our plans have been to grow the arts program each year, and that has definitely been the case. Last school year we were selected to participate with Broadway, Jr. Our students began rehearsing to perform the Broadway Jr. production, Once on This Island. Due to the pandemic, the production was a virtual event.

The biggest difference with this year and last is that our whole school teaches only 1-2 lesson a week due to all our classes being virtual.
Q43 1
We are a 6-12 school, we only have 1 music teacher who teaches 7th grade and some hs students. We have 1 art teacher (me) who only teaches hs. We are only able to teach intro level classes, and are unable to provide any higher level classes to students, despite there being interest.

Currently, we have a music teacher. 2021 will be the teacher’s third year with us. Our students do not enter with a music background so the music teacher begins with teaching the reading of music and assists students with clapping. The Covid pandamic restrictions impeded progress. However, we attempt to build student music appreciation and ability by offering music to the same students though out the four years.

Our Arts program provides students with the opportunity to develop their skills in a multitude of media, with an emphasis on the visual arts. Students participate in hands on art work, and are able to share their work with the community and their families.
We also piloted the Broadway Jr. Grant, and will continue through next year, to provide students with the opportunity to perform a musical for the school community.

Fannie Lou Hammer Middle School’s (FLHMS) arts program is comprised of artistic experiences at all grade levels in both the visual and performing arts. Our goal is to expose students to a variety of arts disciplines and experiences as a point of entry for a variety of student learners. Our program includes a full-time visual art teacher offering weekly lessons in both two and three dimensional art that include drawing studies, drawing techniques, sculpture, fiber arts, and graphic design projects across all three grade levels. We also have a full-time theater teacher and partner with Broadway Bound Kids and Broadway Jr. to put on a musical in the spring. This year we increased art-based offerings by incorporating dance and music instruction at all grade levels for the entire year through our afterschool program. After school, we have a FLHMS Dance Squad. This has also created opportunity for student self-expression in culminating performing arts showcases. We also have arts-based curricula that is integrated into subjects across the content areas. As a summation of our arts program, our annual schoolwide celebration, the Community School Forum, featured an explicit arts-based theme that engaged students, families and community members in student performances, mural making, gallery walk, and live art expo.

The arts program at The Fairmont Neighborhood School has devoted serious dedication towards bringing in outside resources to our students this school year. We have continued partnerships with existing cultural arts organizations as well as formed new relationships and partnerships with other arts grants to enhance both arts instructional time for students, and professional development for designated arts teachers. Students have continued their studies with music, visual arts, and musical theater. Incorporating storytelling, acting, and choreography has been a significant element that has now been added to our arts curriculum. Because of these added components, students have another means to express themselves through various performance activities that musical theater can include. Overall, students have arts engagements that consist of singing, dancing, acting, instrument playing, and creating art through the use and application of critical skills and tools.

Currently, at PAIHS Monroe, we have an interdisciplinary theater program. The drama teacher works closely with major discipline teachers to plan activities and lessons that are project-based to support English Language Learners (ELL) in learning English and major concepts they are studying in social studies, English, and native language arts. The interdisciplinary course also is used as a means to develop student expression and to expand their reading, writing, and oral skills in both their native language and in English. Students get experience in a wide variety of dramatic art components, including though not limited to, theatrical components, design and technical elements, analyzing plot, theme, characterization and developing and presenting original monologues, dialogues and other productions as well as a variety of other dramatic and theatrical experiences. Next year we will continue with the theater program and hope to expand it to include more students and potentially a school production.

Currently, we have a certified visual arts teacher who services the students in our school. The visual arts teacher helps the teachers connect visual arts to all of the content areas and assists the students with projects. In addition, the visual arts teacher facilitates parent workshops twice a month showing them how visual arts connects to what their children are learning in school. This is our sixth year having schoolwide enrichment clubs once a week. Every Tuesday students participate in clubs that are arts based. We have a partnership with the New York City Ballet which services our third and fourth graders.

This year Archer Elementary offered the arts both in person and virtually. It was important that in addition to the arts being offered on the digital platform, teachers were utilizing the teachers of the arts and their classroom time to include the arts in all of their units of study. This year, more than ever before, we focused on how the arts could be used as a means of sharing learning and knowledge, presenting learning to others and communication. We look forward to bringing back the art studio in the next school year and creating an art show for families and students to showcase their work monthly. For such a show, art would take a variety of formats from digital creations to visual arts to performances (theatrical and musical).

For several years, our school has had the pleasure to work with the Stella Adler Studio with the purpose of supporting our school of new arrivals to acquire English in a fun and engaging way. The Adler group works with our students in diction, acting skills, and playwriting. Students have the opportunity to write their own plays and then see them performed by professionals. In addition, our general education teachers also support the arts program at our school by providing courses such as Introduction to Music, playwriting, and theater classes.

This year we offered quality visual arts instruction delivered to all of our students in a dedicated art room. Activities and strategies were designed to allow students to develop understanding of the meaning and purpose of visual arts. The goal of the visual arts program is the exploration of introductory concepts, skills, and techniques based on observation, exploration, and related discussions through drawing, collage, painting and sculpture. Students learn that artists are inspired by the world around them and imagination is an important part of interpreting experience. The curriculum is designed to build on art skills and experiences as students advance through the grades. Students are introduced to art history and learn to appreciate different art forms through viewing original works of art and use of the Smart Board technology. Art projects are often designed to complement the classroom curriculum. Students were offered music and dance were by Global Arts and arts and cultural oganizations to all our students. Activities were designed to apply personal and expressive preferences in the evaluation of music and dance. Students performed music and dance from other countries and cultures.

We provide all of our students with sequential, standards-based arts education and have earned a well-deserved reputation in New York City for effectively doing so for many years. In addition to full-time staff arts teachers in three different sections (music, theater, and visual arts), we also have and continue to nurture long-standing partnerships with cultural organizations. All classroom teachers and other curricula specialists also provide arts experiences for students. Weekly Town Hall performances provide opportunities for all students to participate in and experience the performing arts. Classes schedule trips to museums, music and theater performances, and dance concerts. Annual student performances commemorate The Day of the African Child, Juneteenth and other major holidays that are celebrated by members of our school community. We have an annual musical theater performance. We have partnered with Marquis Studios to provide our school community with workshops in dance, theater, music and movement.

Our school has a high quality arts program with two experienced full-time teachers in visual arts and music. Our arts teachers provide high quality instruction on a weekly basis. During the pandemic, our arts teachers continued to provide high quality virtual arts education using innovative strategies to continue to make the arts highly engaging to our students while teaching remotely. The arts teachers at PS 8 are leaders in the field of arts education through speaking at prominent arts conferences, leading professional development, performing and maintaining their own arts practices. In addition to our arts teachers, we partner with the Guggenheim Museum and Treasure Trunk. We have a songwriting resident artist to provide additional arts opportunities across the grades.

Our school's arts program is multi-layered, multi-disciplined and provides our students with the abilities to be competitive with their peers throughout the city. Each year, it is our goal to align all of our subject areas in an effort to provide our students with seamless learning and inquiry. Our students are exposed to varied forms of art including visual arts, theater, dance, and music. Our in-house arts teachers, along with our art consultants, are innovative and seek to stay current with the trends and new discoveries within their disciplines. We take pride in how we align each grade with the arts. Each of our grades is assigned an art form according to their social studies curriculum. Our artists and classroom teachers collaboratively study the units and decide what the essential question and year's focus would be for the students across each grade. We provide our students with authentic art instruction which allows them to truly understand the art form that is being studied. Our students are provided with many opportunities to engage in trips which enhance their art awareness and make their learning real and alive. Our students are also provided with many opportunities to study the varied forms of arts, collaborate with their peers and their teachers, and then present their Type III products. They engage in varied in-house art exhibitions as well as exhibitions outside of the school on stage, in museums, and at dance competitions. We tap into their talents.

The Clinton Hill School strives to provide each student with an arts education that will develop creative ability and nurture a lifelong appreciation for the various art forms within the viable parameters of hybrid learning. We will restart our creative dance program and project based educational experiences that integrate the arts across all subject areas and disciplines while addressing the academic and social needs of our diverse student population. Through our partnerships with many cultural organizations, the students are exposed to a variety of art forms, artists and techniques. These various art forms help students develop motor skills, gain exposure to music and theater using imagination, and learn audience skills, movement skills and cooperation. Students will showcase their art through concerts, performances, galleries and displays in local businesses.
Q43 1
Due to the large number of teachers on accommodations, we needed to place our Dance teacher in a classroom. We were unable to provide dance instruction and the PTA was unable to raise enough funds to provide theatre arts.

Society of the Educational Arts, Inc. (SEA) is a bilingual arts-in-education organization and bilingual theater for young audiences. SEA provides our students with rich learning experiences of dance, theater, and cultural performances that are specially designed for our school community. Individualized programs address students' academic needs, strengthen the arts curriculum, and provide cultural experiences. Students work with SEA's professional dance teaching artist to learn the history of salsa, hip-hop and African dance as they craft their skills in perfecting partner work. Our students present their routines during schoolwide cultural performances for the enjoyment of their peers, school staff, and parents.

PS46K is a STEAM school with the arts-infused throughout the curriculum, providing opportunities for differentiated instruction within various learning modalities. The arts inform and energize our project-based learning model; supporting and reinforcing learning while developing skills and understandings in individual arts disciplines.
While the school went through the last year with hybrid learning and other challenges we found our students met the test with flexible thinking and creative problem-solving that has been instilled in them through our curriculum.
Families enthusiastically engaged in the arts programming during the past year. Students with families attended virtual concerts and field trips. All arts programming was family-focused.
Grade-appropriate lessons are designed to enhance vocabulary and critical thinking skills necessary to prepare students for college and beyond. In addition to an experiential curriculum, students demonstrate mastery of concepts and content as well as processes. We utilize the rich cultural resources of New York City as an extension of classroom activities.
Q43 1
The past year has been challenging. We found that our consistently strong family arts programming in the past provided us with a solid base to meet current demands.

At PS 56, we have a full-time dance instruction that sees all students in the school, Pre-K through 5th grade. In the dance program, the dance teacher teaches a variety of dance styles and genres and culminates each program with a performance in the winter and spring. For visual arts, we partner with Studio in a School to provide visual arts experiences to all students. We utilize residencies so children engage in visual arts for approximately five to six months of the school year weekly. For music, we partner with Little Orchestra Society which also provides a residency for five to six months out of the school year.

The Academy of Performing Arts (APA) provides the opportunity for students to pursue training in classical ballet, contemporary dance, and vocal music. The Academy places special emphasis on preparing the young artist for high schools that offer specialized performing arts programs. APA has partnered with several arts groups, organizations and foundations such as Mark Morris Dance Group, Arts Alive, Dance Africa, American Ballet Theater and Creative Outlet as well as individual artists. Students are featured in our annual Winterfest and Springfest Concerts which showcase all of the art disciplines. Our vocal students have performed at several events hosted by local politicians over the years. Both our dance and vocal students have competed at arts contests sponsored by local community organizations. The School of Fine Arts and Design (FAD) integrates technology into the arts through the graphic design course in grade 8. A number of those students participate in the production of the school yearbook. This year several students will submit work for the Basquiat Project co-sponsored by the Barclay's Center.
Q43 1
The arts opportunities for our students this year were severely limited by the COVID-19 pandemic.

PS 133 is committed to quality education in the performing and visual arts. Our dedicated dance studio features mirrors, flooring, barres and technology. Lower grades focus on creative dance as well as an intro to ballet technique, choreography and dance history. Upper grades begin with an intro to dance covering creative movement concepts and then focus on ballet and modern technique, Jazz and Hip hop dance history, and choreography. In our drama program students develop social and emotional skills, as well as creative thinking skills. They develop performance skills focused on using ""The Actor's Toolbox"" - the body, voice, and imagination. Units of study include pantomime, playwriting, scene study, and puppetry, among others. The STUDIO visual arts program is a dedicated art studio where the students are encouraged to experiment in a variety of styles including drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, sculpture, 2-D applied design, and media tech are integrated into classroom content. Our cultural partners provide new and exciting opportunities for our students to express themselves, in addition to providing opportunities to interact with artists and arts venues in our community.

Due to scheduling requirements related to COVID-19, it was necessary for our music teacher to be placed in the classroom this year but will be returning to the music program for the 2021-2022 school year. We also plan to continue with residencies and field trips from years past.
