We value the arts as essential learning experiences for our students. Although we could not host live events this year, we worked with arts organizations to bring in virtual experiences, and we incorporated art in our classrooms for both virtual and in-person students. Our arts partners, Third Street Music School Setttlement, Mark DeGarmo Dance, and Arts for All, developed live virtual curriculum which both in-person and remote students participated in together. This fostered a feeling of classroom community as well as creative learning. Our in-house STEAM program offered many opportunities for creative exploration, and we organized materials for all of our remote students so that they could create mobiles, sculptures, collages, and drawings at home. In Technology Arts, our students continued to explore expression and the design process through coding, animation, robotics, and a variety of hands-on media. One of our students created an animation that was included in the Manhattan Borough Arts Festival, and many of our students contributed artworks to the D01 Arts Showcase. We also highlighted the arts in our Career Day event. Our presenters included a film and theatre director, a comedy writer, a woodworker, and an actor. We continually seek to share with students our conviction that the arts are central to understanding ourselves and the world.

We strongly believe that the arts should be an important part of a school's academic program. We have participated in and developed a wide variety of educational programs and activities to support the inclusion of the arts (music, visual arts, dance and theater) in daily curriculum offerings to our students. Many community agencies support us, including Third Street Music School Settlement and Studio in a School. Visitors to PS 19 often comment on the extent to which the students are engaged with their work. We are particularly proud of our school's warm and sociable atmosphere and productive learning environment.

Due to the pandemic we had lack of arts providers
Q42 1 Rev
Due to the pandemic, we did not have the arts programs we would normally have at PS20M. Going forward we would like to continue to provide arts programs for our students, including dance, music and theater for all ages across the school. We have worked with Ajna Dance Company, Third Street Music School Settlement, National Dance Institute (NDI) and Rosie's Theatre Kids and others to ensure we provide arts programs for our students from ages Pre-K to 5. Through these programs, our students are able to learn through the arts in addition to expressing themselves through the arts.

At Public School 63, our commitment to the arts is always growing. Since the 2010-2011 school year, full-time music and visual arts instruction by certified arts teachers has been offered to all grades. In visual arts classes, students explore a variety of two and three dimensional media and techniques. Additionally, they are exposed to a wide variety of artists both contemporary and throughout history as well as careers in the arts. Usually in music, all kindergarten through second grade students are given instruction in keyboard, reading music and vocals. As students move into the upper grades, they learn additional instruments, such as the recorder, violin, trumpet, and bucket drums. To enhance our arts program, we continue our theater partnership with Scripts to Stage, Young Storytellers in 5th grade. In the 2020-21 school year due to pandemic conditions, all music instruction was provided remotely and asynchronously. Visual arts instruction was provided as push-in for hybrid students and remotely and asynchronously for fully remote learners. Scripts to Stage was also provided remotely.

Public School 64, Home of Music and Art for Young Minds, has continued to blossom over the past several years. Equity remains a top priority, and as such, every student in Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade receives comprehensive and sequential instruction in visual arts, music and dance. Students’ work is showcased and celebrated throughout the year in hallway displays, art shows, mini performances, schoolwide concerts, and student assemblies. The music, dance, and visual arts rooms are outfitted with all necessary materials and equipment to fully engage our students in a rich curriculum as outlined by the NYCDOE Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. Our seasoned arts teachers guide students in making meaningful connections between the arts and the world around them. Additional dance, theater and visual arts instruction is supported by classroom teachers and several community based organizations, including New York City Ballet, Dancing Classrooms, and Rosie’s Theater Kids. Our students participate in many field trips to museums, cultural institutions, concert halls, and Broadway theaters. We have a full-time certified dance, music, and visual arts teacher on our staff providing every student a foundation of technical skills while developing their artistry. P.S. 64 is proud of its dedication to the arts and will continue to provide high quality arts education to the community we serve.

The School Leadership Team at PS 110 believes that arts connections can be made within all areas of curriculum and that those connections can help enhance student learning in all content areas. The Team is also committed to supporting and nurturing the many gifts and talents our students demonstrate in the various disciplines and interest areas. All three arts teachers, visual arts, music and dance , with their professional knowledge and experience, introduce our students to the wide world of arts. Students are not all in school this year due to the pandemic. All three teachers are still teaching the blended students in-person and remote students live on screen. They support students to learn, to appreciate and to gain the knowledge of visual arts, dance and music. Students are able to receive more individual attention from each teacher, participate in more hands-on opportunities in each field, engage in small group discussions, and assess each other's work. Small class size has a better effect on students' learning in the arts. In the year of 2021-2022, we hope everything will go back to normal. Students will have a chance to visit museums and art exhibitions, attend concerts, go to the movies, do performance and contribute their work for any art exhibitions.

Public School 142 is rich in its arts programming providing visual arts and music during the school day, collaborations with outside organizations, and an impressive afterschool arts program offering theater and visual arts. Students have visual arts and music at least once each week where they experience a wide range of techniques and processes, build on skills already learned, learn new skills, and study relevant artists. Our afterschool arts program includes musical theater, media, dance, visual arts, photography, film-making, mask-making and storytelling. The program culminates in two showcases and an annual original school musical. Rosie's Theater Kids provide musical theater for students in 5th grade with weekly practice and a culminating performance.

Shuang Wen School has always prided itself on their academics -- mathematics, literacy, science, AND THE ARTS. We provide music and visual arts instruction for all elementary and middle school students along with some classes of music and art theory. In addition to classroom instruction, students virtually visited a wide range of cultural and community organizations throughout the year. Within the school year, every elementary and middle school student performs and exhibits their work within their classes and for their parents, teachers and the neighborhood community. For the upcoming 2021-2022 school year, Shuang Wen School plans to incorporate additional use of technology and digital design within the arts with a photography program and modern band along with various cultural events for the community within the arts curriculum.
Q43 1
We are a Title I dual language elementary and middle school with over 60% of students with free lunches and over 15% of students with special needs. Our school, in general, has several languages, dialects, ages and needs from all walks of life.

PS/MS 188 is dedicated to identifying and nurturing each student's talents. To accomplish this, we strive to secure funding for arts resources and opportunities for our students. Our 2020-21 arts partnerships included Third Street Music School Settlement, Society of the Educational Arts (SEA), Repertorio Espanol, and Henry Street Settlement (Abrons Art Center) during the school day. Teaching artists from The Educational Alliance and Henry Street Settlement (Abrons Arts Center) provided arts instruction during our extended school day. Our Technology Media Arts/MakerSpace program and extended day program have been highlighted by the NYCDOE as part of its "Showcase School" initiative. We believe the arts provide a unique entry point into academics, and as importantly, meaningful pathways to high school and beyond. Given this, we collaborate with our cultural arts partners to implement arts-infused curricula in core subject areas as well as skills-based arts instruction. We are proud to have received NYCDOE's ELL/SWD (English LanguageLearners/Students With Disabilities) arts grants for the past five years> The first was in collaboration with Marquis Studios and currently in collaboration with Third Street Music School Settlement.

In our progressive approach, we believe that education must not be a race for the accumulation of facts, but should be an enriching end in itself. We also believe that education is a joint venture among students, parents, caregivers and teachers. We see the individual child’s curiosity, abilities and learning styles as integral factors in designing, individualizing and assessing each student’s learning. We believe that the arts are an essential part of the curriculum and that it is important for students to express themselves creatively and to use their imaginations freely. We believe that the uniqueness of children is revealed in their very existence and that it is the school’s responsibility to foster their innate sense of the mystery and joy of life. We encourage children to follow their interests, pursue problems in a way that makes sense to them and defend their conclusion by explaining their thinking in a variety of ways. We understand that there are many kinds of intelligence and the traditional academic, cognitive area is one. Equally important areas of intelligence are: intuition, imagination, artistic creativity, physical expression and performance, sensitivity to others, and self-understanding. To neglect any of these areas is to limit students in the development of their full human potential. We engage students with hands-on investigations, projects and design challenges across the grades and subject areas inspiring greater interest, depth and understanding.

Visual arts students are introduced to a variety of art materials and techniques with a focus on creating, observing, speaking about and writing about art. Students become familiar with various artists and art movements from around the world and throughout history and work independently and in groups to create art projects that incorporate a wide array of artistic concepts and materials. Students work on projects that deepen their knowledge of the Elements of Art as they develop their own artistic style and voice. Projects are often connected to the social studies curricula. In dance, students are introduced to a variety of dance styles and techniques with highly trained professional dancers through a series of residencies. Students work in groups to create dance routines. Dance techniques are taught across the grades and are age and developmentally appropriate. Starting in second grade, students perform choreographed dances at the culmination of their residencies. Theater is provided with classroom teachers to support social studies instruction through drama. Our music program introduces a variety of music making activities, including vocal, instrumental, and percussive. Students become familiar with various artists, styles, and genres from around the world and various time periods. Students work together and alone to create new pieces of music as well as to perform vocal and instrumental music in a variety of genres.

Art is integral to the experience of each child at the Neighborhood School. Throughout their time at the Neighborhood School, students take part in visual arts, music, and theater programs. At our school, students experience art for its own sake partnering with Studio in a School and other cultural organizations to learn discipline-specific skills and to explore new forms of expression. Through these vital programs, students have a chance to collaborate with professional artists in residency-based programs. Field trips are integral to our work and curriculum at the Neighborhood School. Teachers work closely with educators and teaching artists at a range of museums and cultural institutions throughout NYC. Teachers plan trips connected with studies in all academic and artistic areas. Throughout their time at the Neighborhood School, students will likely visit the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of the City of New York, the New York Historical Society, the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Studio Museum, the Museum of the American Indian, and many more. We are a partnership school with the New Victory Theater. Curriculum at The Neighborhood School is multi-disciplinary and project-based. Students have a chance to collaborate on arts-based culminating projects. Additionally, all students take part in Project Time in their classrooms or in the Makers' Space multiple times per week. Project Time is a time in which students choose, design, plan, and execute a project of their own design. Examples include projects in film, animation, robotics, and painting.

University Neighborhood High School believes in exposing students to diverse forms of fine arts, media arts, dance, music, and theater. During the school day, every student takes at least one dance, music, and/or visual arts course each semester. Our visual arts program fosters students’ creativity and addresses their social and emotional needs while encouraging thoughtful application of the formal and conceptual aspects of art and art making. Through collaboration on projects such as mural painting and art installations, our students develop artistic and interpersonal skills as they play an active role in beautifying our school and community. Our music program offers music history, theory, singing and keyboarding to all students and infuses technology for learning music audio engineering. Students take dance classes as part of their regular coursework, study various forms of cultural dance and examine the techniques, history, influences, and aesthetics of each. Both the music and dance programs share the goal of giving students performance opportunities. For 2021-2022, we wish to begin tracking students through sequential arts concentrations and maintain a collaborative community partnership with Abrons Arts Center/Henry Street Settlement.

Arts has always played a significant role in the life of our school. We have an extensive Advanced Placement 2D Arts program that offers students of all languages a chance to express themselves and earn college credit. In addition to introductory to art courses and Edgenuity courses, art is integrated into the general classes. Lincoln Center Theater has been a valuable partner in offering in-house theater residencies to our English Languages Learners providing them the opportunity to find their voice, learn English and gain confidence through theater activities. Normally we have the opportunity to provide for students to view Broadway shows, Ballet Hispanico and visit museums throughout New York City. Due to COVID, these events were placed on hold, but we plan to engage in these activities next school year. We continue our photography programs with Magic Box Productions, Inc. Students are able to produce talent shows, cultural celebrations, art and photography exhibitions. As always, our goal is to expose our students to culture through the arts and provide them opportunities to which they might not normally have access.

New Explorations into Science, Technology and Math is a citywide kindergarten through grade twelve gifted and talented school. We are a STEM school that is committed to meeting the needs of all learners. This commitment means that we value the arts AND the sciences. To do this, we take every opportunity to promote the arts. We supplement in-school programs and courses with afterschool arts programming. We look forward to continuing on this mission.

Students who apply and are accepted into our transfer high school will be provided with the necessary arts courses to satisfy New York State Department of Education requirements for high school graduation. Student surveys are utilized to determine the types of art classes to be offered each semester. In addition to credit-bearing arts programming during the school day, an Extended School Day/School Violence Prevention grant allows us to offer afterschool music and dance programs. Remote teaching and learning coursework is available online through various platforms to support distance learning as needed.

Our goals are to augment learning with imaginative problem solving, skill development, teamwork and aesthetic education. Students develop an appreciation of several forms of artistic expression along with disciplined use of imagination and structured aesthetics. Within historical and experiential contexts, students participate in classes on photography, theater, dance, music and visual arts. Another goal is to create and maintain meaningful opportunities for students to perform and compose works using vision, movement, sound, and drama. In this way, students are empowered to take ownership of their individual dynamism, connecting arts and cultural disciplines to their everyday growth and education.

During these challenging times, our PS 1 community found "joy" in our arts programming. We wanted to make sure our children were singing, dancing and expressing their feelings through music and art. Spring was our turning point where we as a school were very intentional to ensure that our children had love, peace and hope.
Q43 1
It's been a very challenging year however we are grateful we were able to incorporate our arts programming back into our school year.

Public School 2 believes in the importance of arts education as part of our rigorous and well-rounded curriculum. Visual arts and music classes engage students in a wide range of learning. Our visual arts curriculum includes exploration of different art forms while incorporating a study of famous artists. The music curriculum includes instruction in instrumental performance (keyboard, xylophone and recorder) as well as instruction in reading music. Enrichment periods are scheduled to provide additional opportunities in arts learning. We seek out partnerships to further student arts learning and have partnered with NYU Music Mentors to provide additional individual music instruction in violin, guitar and piano. To prepare for twenty-first century learning, our students use their individual iPad apps to create iMovies, keynote for presentations as well as pages for poster presentations. These are integrated into all content areas of the curriculum: reading, writing, social studies and science. National Dance Institute continues their thirty year history at our school teaching our fifth graders. At Public School 2, we recognize the significant impact of arts learning: supporting academic learning, developing important skills, and building positive self-esteem. It is our goal that all our students receive the highest quality arts education.

In kindergarten through fifth grade, the Lower Lab School consistently presents a full calendar of family friendly arts events, including those related to academic achievement, including concerts, Sotheby's Art Show, and Lower Lab Art and Technology exhibits. Due to COVID, this year was different. Our arts specialist aligns their visual exploration of materials with the New York State Standards for the Arts. Students are involved in daily routines learning the Elements of Art, Principles of Design and discovering their own personal creativity through visual and verbal platforms.

Q42 1 Rev
Our school community has an exceptionally strong support for the arts. An integral part of the school's mission is to integrate the arts with the academic curriculum. Many classroom teachers have professional backgrounds or involvement in one or more of the arts, and many of our families have professional involvement in the arts as well. We offer visual arts, movement, technology and music programs supported by a combination of Department of Education and PTA funding. Our children have in-house movement classes twice a week and in-house visual arts once a week. Our clay and music programs provide extra time in the arts each week. The PTA also funds artists and scientists-in-residence mini-grants to classroom teachers. The funding provides partnerships with outside arts and cultural organizations to support student learning through the arts within the classroom. We take full advantage of the availability of local arts organizations, museums, and theaters through residencies and field trips. This year we have not had the same experience due to COVID.
Q43 1
During Covid we taught a lot of the year on ZOOM. SOme teachers did cultural zoom experiences with art organizations but it was not as many due to Covid.

We are an arts-based school with full-time certified teachers in the following disciplines: visual arts, dance, music and theater. Because of Covid health restrictions, our partnerships with outside organizations dramatically changed. Historically, every grade partners with an outside organization focused on theater or dance. Third, fourth and fifth graders have two artists-in-residency partnerships throughout the school year. Despite this change, classroom teachers incorporated the arts into their curriculum regularly. During remote/hybrid instruction, we offered additional visual arts, music, theater, and dance instruction to our remote students two to three times a week. This instruction was in addition to their programmed classes on STARS giving our students even more access to arts programming. In addition, we are holding a virtual arts show, remote choral performance, remote dance ensembles, remote graduation with choral performances, and a remote talent show.

Public School 40 is committed to developing a high quality arts program. The integration of the arts into our classroom curriculum is essential. Our full-time visual arts and music teachers provide our students with an outstanding and comprehensive program. Outside organizations, such as National Dance Institute and Inside Broadway, supplement and enrich our in-house arts studies. Remote afterschool opportunities in the arts were also available to students this year.

Through immersion and collaborations with various cultural programs, our students develop talent and skills in different areas of the arts. The arts are integrated into our interdisciplinary curriculum with a focus on the development of literacy, cultural appreciation, and integration of the curriculum. The programs of study actively engage children in experiencing the arts and communicating through them. We have collaborations with Chen Dance Center, The Drawing Center, Dancing Classrooms, Audubon Society, Center for Architecture, Midori & Friends, Faces of Wonder, New Victory Theater, YMCA, and Third Street Music School Settlement. The residencies are aligned with the core curriculum to support classroom instruction and provide professional development for participating staff including parental participation. We have two highly qualified arts teachers providing in-house music and visual arts instruction and experiences to the students. Gallery walks, art exhibits, celebrations, and concerts are held throughout the school year. An invitation to all these events is extended to all members of the Public School 42 community.

“47” has dynamic arts and dance rograms. We also have partnerships with Third Street Music School Settlement and other organizations to provide in school and afterschool arts enrichment for our students. "47" seeks out opportunities for our students to experience all of the arts available in New York City. Our students attend and engage in discourse around concerts, plays, Broadway shows, arts and cultural exhibits as well as other arts opportunities around the city.

Currently, Public School 111 has a full-time music teacher and visual arts teacher for grades Pre-K through five. Due to the restrictions of COVID, our normal arts partnerships were cancelled for the 2020-2021 school year. Orchestra of St. Luke’s is an afterschool program servicing about 35 students in grades one through five. It continued to provide music lessons separate from the school setting via ZOOM for families that were interested. Our goal is to have a grade specific arts program for each grade provided by outside cultural arts organizations in addition to our full-time music and visual arts teachers.

P.S. 116 Manhattan has a longstanding commitment to aesthetic arts education where students learn by focusing on an artist's works of art, including dance, music, theater, and visual arts. We concentrate on students' perceptions of a particular work guided by a line of inquiry to explore the artistic and aesthetic process of featured artists. In order to provide each child a comprehensive experience with the arts, we are proud partners with 92nd Street Y, American Classical Orchestra, Dancing Classrooms, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and National Dance Institute. During this unprecendented school year, we are grateful that some of our valued partners were able to offer virtual afterschool programming to keep the arts alive at 116!

Public School 124 views the visual arts, music, theater and dance as integral components of a well-rounded curriculum for all elementary students. The arts programs support and enrich academic learning in order for our students to develop reading, writing and oral language skills. Appreciation for various art forms is encouraged as students visit different cultural institutions (this year virtually) as well as participate in hands-on activities taught by New York State certified arts teachers and teaching artists from partner organizations. The arts teachers use the various arts disciplines to help children develop appreciation for the arts as well as provide them with other avenues to express their understanding of themselves and their world. Meaningful arts education at our school is supported by professional development and collaborative planning with classroom teachers incorporating the arts into the curriculum. Parents support the arts at Public School 124 by attending virtual student performances.
Q43 1
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, distancing restrictions made it necessary for our school to use the dedicated art room as a classroom and the arts teachers pushed into regular classrooms. It is our school's intent to re-dedicate the art room to its use for art only once restrictions are lifted.

In addition, though we were unable to take students on field trips and to arts events outside of the classroom, students were able to attend and participate in many events and trips virtually.

Our school provides a very strong enrichment program in arts education. The arts program is a crucial factor in attracting an ever increasing number of applicants to our middle school. Approximately 20% of our students who apply to specialized arts high schools are accepted. It is our goal to increase partnership with visiting artists and cultural institutes in order to broaden their appreciation of the arts, to be able to express themselves creatively so that our students can learn from the professionals and to gain insight into the art profession as a possible career choice.

We believe that the arts play a vital role in helping to improve our students' academic performance and achievement by providing a variety of venues for them to develop the necessary language and social skills, self-confidence and poise needed to succeed. We believe that our students' experiences with the arts programs contribute to their high academic achievements that resulted in our school being the proud recipient of the 2017 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award! This year, all of our arts residencies were conducted remotely via Zoom. Students enjoy the residencies. Therefore, our online attendance rate is very high. Our comprehensive program includes our in-house music and visual arts programs and an arts residency program for every child from Pre-K through grade 5. Many of our arts partnership programs offer scholarships to students who show a particular interest or talent in a discipline and also provide opportunities for them to continue after they leave Public School 130. In addition to our day school offerings, we had, prior to the pandemic, many free school-sponsored afterschool programs: a fife and drum corps, a school chorus, and a Chinese lion dance club. We plan to resume these programs in the coming school year. This year, our school received a renewed grant for a 92Y CASA visual arts program. Parents actively support our many programs by volunteering and raising funds to pay for partnerships with community based organizations, musical instruments, and equipment.
Q43 1
All of the arts programs listed in the survey have been made possible by the generosity of our parents and our Parents Association. We are a Title I school with a majority of children coming from homes that speak a language other than English. Because the parents see the value and the positive impact that the arts have had on their children's academic performance, they have been tremendously supportive in helping us to raise the funds necessary to continue the programs. As a result, our school has consistently ranked as one of the higher performing schools in New York City.

Our visual arts teacher provides courses to students at all grade levels. The curriculum, aligned with the NYC Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Visual Arts, incorporates both two dimensional and three dimensional comprehensive units of study. Students will explore a variety of artistic mediums and be exposed to many different artists, movements, and be encouraged to consider their own identity and place as an artist and within our visual culture. As a supplement, our school has received a five year Extended School Day/School Violence Prevention grant that is used to fund partnerships. Groundswell, a mural design and creation program, brings together artists, youth, and community organizations to bring about social change through art. Their teaching artists are working with our students to beautify our school space. We also have dance and step clubs provided in-house where students prepare choreographed dances to perform for the Urban Assembly School for Emergency Management (UASEM) community at our town halls and special events. In addition, the UASEM has an in-house cooking club where students work with a teacher to design a cookbook of their favorite dishes and then learn to cook these dishes and share them with the larger UASEM community throughout the school year.

At Public School 150, we are proud of our long-standing commitment to the arts and of our recent development of theater offerings. The arts play a significant role in daily instruction at our school. Students receive stand-alone instruction as well as arts instruction integrated into our in-depth science and social studies themes. Each year, all our work comes together in our annual arts festival, which includes a visual arts exhibit with work from every student in the school and an original theater piece that incorporates dance, music, theater and content study artwork. The theater piece is performed on the main stage of Stuyvesant High School for our families. This year it will be done virtually.

We are proud of the varied arts programs that our students woud normally participate in throughout the school year. With the generous assistance of the Parents Association and the participation of our arts committees (comprised of parents and teachers), we hope to be able to continue to offer these wonderful programs in the upcoming school year. PS 158 is committed to providing diverse instruction in the arts. We were so fortunate to have previously enjoyed diverse performances in school as well as many field trips.
Q43 1
As a result of the pandemic and collateral restrictions and mandates we were unable to have our robust grade level enrichment programs in collaboration with outside vendors. In addition, scheduling, staffing and periodic closures all posed challenges to realizing our cultural goals. We are hopeful that next year we can return to our full and complete arts and culture programming.

Wagner Middle School offers classes in visual arts, theater arts, and band. These programs provide much needed art opportunities for students to participate in exhibits, performances, and trips to many arts based institutions. Band members normally participate in band five times a week, and collaborate in concerts, borough-wide band shows and performances at Carnegie Hall. This year, due to Covid restrictions, this was greatly reduced. However, a number of 6th-8th grade students will have auditioned for the Manhattan Borough-Wide and Inner City Band as well as the National Children's Chorus. Non-band students participate in a rotating program of theater and visual arts following the NYC Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts and an alignment to the Common Core Standards. Activities in the theater and visual arts programs include but are not limited to art studio, drama club, museum club, dance performances, and digital photography. This year we could not hold our normal winter and spring concerts. Every year a number of our students will be accepted into summer art 'intensives' at Frank Sinatra School for the Arts. This year, we had a virtual “Talent Show” that was a great success. Also, a student was selected in the citywide juried art show called PSArt. Their exhibit will be displayed in The Met ropolitan Museum of Art for the entire summer. At Wagner, we feel every student should be equally exposed to the arts as they are to other core subjects to create a well-rounded student.

This year has been a challenging year overall and especially for arts programs. We were not able to participate in programs with our usual partnerships such as the National Dance Institute or the New York City Ballet or hold student concerts or art shows. All music classes and most art classes were taught online via Zoom. However, arts instruction is an integral part of the school day at our school. In addition to continuing the school based arts programs which included instrumental instruction (concert band, recorder), chorus, general music and visual arts instruction, we were able to continue our partnerships with Carnegie Hall Corporation and the Manhattan School of Music Opera programs through virtual programs.

At Public School 183, we believe in allowing children to experience the arts from Pre-K to grade five. Not only are the arts integrated into the regular classroom subjects, we also have a full-time visual arts teacher, music teacher, who leads 4th and 5th grade band and chorus, a technology teacher, and a teacher in Pre-K and kindergarten who takes children once a week for a block building class. We also partner with community based organizations to integrate arts education into the general curriculum. We have partnerships with New York City Ballet, local NYC museums, the New-York Historical Society, OneWorld Global Classrooms, National Dance Institute, and Chess NYC. All of these important partnerships support our belief in educating the whole child. In addition, Public School 183 is the proud sponsor, along with our council member's Office of the Upper East Side District 2 Art Show held annually at Sotheby’s Auction House.

Our current arts program provides exposure to and participation in the multiple arts disciplines to strengthen a child’s academic, social and emotional growth, and development as an individual. Whenever possible, the arts curriculum is integrated with the academic curriculum but also with a schoolwide focus on culture and identity. The technology available to teachers in the building is often integrated into arts instruction. Computers, iPads, and various software is integrated into music and art instruction.

The goals of our arts program are for children to use original ideas while developing art skills and techniques. They will be familiar with a variety of visual arts forms and can describe them using the vocabulary of visual arts media. We expect that they will develop an awareness of the expression and communicative power of visual arts and express thoughts through the combined use of the visual and performing arts. They will showcase their learning by using various media (drawing, painting, sculpture, and collage) to create artwork with some of the principals of design. Students will also work within the ORFF music program in the upper grades and Music and the Brain keyboarding in the lower ones. The goal is for students to learn various instruments as well as note reading to be able to both play and sing in various genres of music.

At 217, we educate the whole child and believe the arts are a significant component of every student's education no matter their academic or artistic abilities. Now, more than ever, we are ready to re-embrace the arts as a force for healing, nurturing and learning. In addition to scheduled classes with our certified visual arts and music teachers, every grade will have an opportunity to work with an arts, cultural or wellness organization for an extended residency program. These organizations will include the Roosevelt Island Main Street Theater, National Dance Institute, Dancewave, The Museum of the Moving Image, and others. We anticipate that our green roof will also be completed this fall. It will serve as both an inspiration for art making and a venue for our arts programming and afford us the opportunity to offer coordinated cross curriculum content in the arts, sustainability, wellness and the sciences. Our PTA, through our shared vision, hard work and dedication, makes these learning opportunities available to each and every student, and we are deeply grateful for their generosity and continued support.
Q43 1
We are a Prek to Grade 8 school, about to add 3K to our building. We have an international population of students, whose parents work for the United Nations, Cornell Weill Hospital, Rockefeller University and attend Cornell Tech University. Our PTA sponsors most of our enrichment programming including dance and theater. We currently have two full time certified music and visual arts teachers who teach all grades. Although COVID, limited what could be offered to students in person, we were able to provide remote dance instruction with The National Dance Institute, Dancewave and visual arts instruction with The Museum of Moving Image.
We are planning to reestablish our enrichment offerings next year.

Arts instruction is a rich and vibrant part of students' learning at Public School 234. Every student in the whole school has hands-on visual arts experiences. Our most significant partnerships with cultural arts organizations in New York City are with National Dance Institute which works with our fifth graders weekly, and Wingspan Arts which provides theater instruction to our kindergarten through fourth grade students. Classroom teachers instruct students in visual arts, music and theatrical arts experiences throughout our rich social studies curriculum. Normally in non-pandemic years, we have offered a full array of vocal music classes in kindergarten through third grade as well as instrumental music beginning in the fourth grade. Our visual arts teacher, music teacher, and dance teacher collaborate throughout the school year to create amazing, well-crafted arts learning and culminating performances for our students. Public School 234 has a long and rich history of valuing the arts in children's learning. This is completely evident as you walk through our school.

Artists at Salk are enrolled in visual arts class from 6th-8th grade. Salk also provides rigorous and fun afterschool portfolio development program for 7th and 8th graders interested in applying to an arts high school. The art room was renovated in 2018 with ample light, storage, work space and access to technology. Salk artists work in many mediums, including drawing, painting, printmaking, and digital photography. Students are encouraged to explore ideas, to experiment, and to push their own boundaries beyond while encouraging a growth mindset. Students are guided in the process of discovering their own innate creative strengths, curiosity, passions, and personal voice. Historically, Salk had a thriving drama program. Students took drama classes from 6th through 8th grade and also participated in our theater program afterschool in collaboration with Manhattan Youth. Our drama program was closely interwoven with our humanities program so there was ample opportunities for interdisciplinary work. Due to the pandemic, we did not continue our drama program during the school day, though we continued with a virtual drama program. Our afterschool program has a high participation rate and students dedicate themselves to the intensive work of doing musicals, Shakespearean plays, adapting Disney shows, and much more. We are dedicated to the arts and the ways it can enrich the human experience. We will continue with our visual arts and drama program during the day in 2021-2022.
