Business Description
Laurissa Jane Music Studio (LJMS) is a dedicated performing arts institution committed to providing children, youth, and adults with a strong, equitable foundation in music and the performing arts. Rooted in community engagement and artistic excellence, LJMS believes in the transformative power of arts education to build confidence, discipline, creativity, and lifelong skills.
LJMS proudly serves the vibrant communities of South Jamaica, St. Albans, Hollis, Queens Village, Rosedale, and Cambria Heights in Queens—areas where access to consistent, high-quality arts programming is often limited. To further remove geographic barriers, LJMS also offers live, interactive online instruction, allowing students in Brooklyn and beyond to participate fully in our programs. Through our virtual offerings, LJMS has successfully reached students as far as Oregon and Georgia, expanding access to arts education for families nationwide.
Through a team of experienced, professionally trained instructors, LJMS provides both private and group instruction, offered in person and online, in piano, voice, guitar, choral music, and musical theater. Instruction is available for students of all ages and skill levels, from early childhood beginners to teens and adults pursuing advanced musical goals. Lessons are designed to be sequential and developmentally appropriate, emphasizing technical proficiency, music literacy, ensemble skills, and expressive performance while fostering creativity and self-confidence.
LJMS places a strong emphasis on inclusive, student-centered learning environments. Group classes promote collaboration, teamwork, and peer learning, while private instruction allows for individualized goal-setting and personalized musical development. Across all programs, instructors integrate foundational musicianship, performance practice, and social-emotional learning, helping students build resilience, focus, and communication skills through the arts.
In addition to year-round music instruction, LJMS operates a Summer Musical Theatre Arts Program, which offers a dynamic, immersive creative environment for young people with a passion for acting, singing, and dancing. This multidisciplinary program integrates vocal performance, acting technique, movement, choreography, and ensemble collaboration. Students work together toward a culminating production, gaining firsthand experience in rehearsal processes, stage presence, and live performance while developing leadership and confidence in a supportive setting.
Recognizing the importance of formal music education and credentialing, LJMS offers year-round preparation for nationally and internationally recognized music assessments, including NYSSMA and ABRSM. Through structured coaching, repertoire development, and mock evaluations, students are supported in achieving measurable milestones that strengthen academic portfolios and artistic pathways.
Performance is a central component of LJMS programming. Students are provided with regular opportunities to perform in recitals, showcases, school partnerships, and community events, allowing them to apply their learning in real-world settings and engage families and community members in their artistic growth. These experiences reinforce confidence, accountability, and pride in achievement.
Grounded in the belief that the arts are essential—not optional—LJMS remains committed to expanding access to high-quality music and performing arts education. By combining in-person and online instruction, community-based partnerships, and performance-driven learning, Laurissa Jane Music Studio continues to nurture the next generation of expressive, skilled, and empowered artists while strengthening the cultural fabric of the communities it serves.
