Business Description
Dattner Architects is a women-owned business with one office, in New York City. We are a mission-driven firm, committed to enriching civic space and the urban experience.
We transform environments and strengthen communities through engaged collaboration, thoughtful programming, and creative design.
Our foundation is civic architecture. Our designs for transit, schools, libraries, housing, healthcare, parks and recreation facilities, and police and fire stations enrich the urban fabric with distinctive, innovative, and inspiring buildings—positively impacting countless residents. We provide architecture, interior architecture, urban design, and planning services.
Over time, our work has grown in scale and complexity, but our role in all of our projects has remained consistent. We are both architects and advocates of each project—facilitating the complex exchanges between communities, professionals, and government officials required to identify, amplify, and implement the project’s vision. Dattner Architects has a well-earned reputation for delivering complex, public projects, and we are actively working with the SCA, DDC, CUNY, DASNY, NYCHA, MTA, PANYNJ, NYS Parks, and the General Services Administration.
Across the five boroughs and the region beyond, our work has had a significant role in the transformation of each place’s urban fabric, contributing to our vision of what cities can be. Having worked with numerous public agencies, we have helped to design, revitalize, and expand urban schools, infrastructure, housing, and parks in many diverse neighborhoods. Our projects have been recognized with Design Excellence Awards from the NYC Public Design Commission and numerous other organizations including American Institute of Architects; Boston Society of Architects; Municipal Art Society; New York Landmarks Conservancy; Urban Land Institute; Society of American Registered Architects; and The Architects Newspaper.
As architects we see ourselves as stewards of the built environment, we have a long-standing commitment to sustainable design characterized by a responsive, project-specific approach that combines passive and low-tech solutions with more active systems, analysis, and controls. With each new commission, we seek to push beyond the conventional standards for sustainability, innovating high-performance low-carbon approaches that work with the building program, site, and budget.
