The BCSM theatre department currently offers two levels of theatre: introduction to theater and theatre performance. The work in these courses requires personal motivation, passion for exploration, risk-taking, and most importantly, an openness to new ideas, thoughts, and feelings. Students will enhance and develop performance skills in improvisation, theatre games, spoken word, physical theatre and vocal work. We will increase our abilities as imaginative and analytical actors by interpreting the texts of dramatic works. Additionally, we will gain new performance skills needed to help build characer in monologues and scenes. These classes will prove an enjoyable outlet for self-expression, group interaction, and an opportunity to explore personal meaning and identity. After school, the department produces two full scale musical theatre productions each year. Students audition and are chosen to sing, dance and act among their fellow ensemble members. Technical theatre work is also offered, where students may help design, build and paint the sets. Every fall and spring, the theatre department partners with the Theatre Development Fund's Stage Doors Program. Through this program, students collaborate with a TDF teaching artist and attend a Broadway show for free.
