Report Abstract
The yards of four historic houses along a historic roadway, Hunterfly Road, which now lie in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, have been intermittently excavated from the 1970s through today. The houses were part of a historic, African-American community called Weeksville, and are now part of a museum run by the Weeksville Heritage Center. This report analyzes the finds from all previous excavations, in order to determine the construction date of the houses, and to learn about the lives and practices of inhabitants. The artifact analysis determined that the houses were most likely constructed in the mid-19th century, and while much of the lives of the inhabitants remains unknown, the artifacts provide clues to eating habits and neighborhood patterns.
