Alley Pond Park Interior Tidal Wetland Restoration
Ceqr: 17DPR004Q • Project Name: Alley Pond Park Interior Tidal Wetland Restoration • Borough: Queens
Ceqr
17DPR004Q
Project Name
Alley Pond Park Interior Tidal Wetland Restoration
Project Description
The proposed project is the restoration of approximately 0.23-acres of tidal wetland within a set of expanded and newly formed pools in the interior of the Alley Creek salt marsh. These pools have increased in size substantially since 1974, resulting in fragmentation and loss of the surrounding marsh. The proposed project will pilot an approach for addressing the ongoing loss of habitat in fringe marshes along the western Long Island Sound. In order to restore the Alley Creek marsh, sediment would be placed within the pools to either close or return them to their historic extent. Once the sand has been placed and settled, those areas would then be planted with native wetland vegetation.

The proposal involves a request from the project sponsor, Rose Hill Asset Management Corp., for construction financing HPD to facilitate the development of a new affordable housing building in the Belmont neighborhood of the Bronx, Community District 6. The proposed project would be developed through HPDs Neighborhood Construction Program. The project site is located at 712-720 East 187th Street and 2361-2365 Crotona Avenue, Bronx NY (Block 3103, Lots 33 and 35), on southwest corner of the intersection of East 187th Street and Crotona Avenue. The project site measures approximately 5,600 square feet (sf). Currently 712-720 East 187th Street contains three retail units, 2365 Crotona Avenue contains one residential unit and one vacant retail unit, and 2361-2363 Crotona Avenue contains two vacant residential units. Under the proposal, the existing buildings on the project site would be demolished to facilitate the new construction of the proposed project, a new five-story, approximately 20,023 gross square foot (gsf) building containing 24 units of affordable housing and approximately 4,278 sf of commercial space.
