The New York Ciy Department of Environmental Protection is seeking to install a pole-mounted security camera at Gate House 2 of the New Croton Dam located in the Town of Cortlandt in Westchester County. The need to enhance monitoring at the New Croton Dam follows recent activities of vandalism and unauthorized vehicles traversing the dam. Although security upgrades were implemented with the installation of a security camera at Gate House 1 following the events of September 11, 2001, the capacity of the agency to effectively monitor the facility has been limited to the east side of the facility and in turn has left critical and historic component vulnerable on the west side such as the spillway. The proposed work would consist of the installation of a security camera at Gate House 2 mounted on a 15-foot pole in order to provide complete and unimpeded coverage over the length of the roadway, spillway, and the entrance to the Head House at Gate House 2.

Upper Effluent Chamber Geotechnical Investigation

New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) proposes to conduct a geotechnical investigation program under the KENS-EAST-MAC portion of the Kensico-Eastview Connection (KEC) Project to inform the design of proposed improvements. The goal of the KEC project is to provide redundancy in water supply delivery between Kensico Reservoir and the Catskill-Delaware Ultraviolet Light (CDUV) Facility, in the Town of Mount Pleasant, Westchester County. An initial design phase geotechnical investigation was completed at the UEC site in 2021, which included four borings (HB-1, HB-2, HB-3, and HB-4). Proposed changes to the design following completion of the initial geotechnical investigation require three additional Standard Penetration Test (SPT) borings (HB-5, HB-6, and HB-7) at the UEC site (a/k/a the Proposed Action). These borings would involve bedrock coring, packer testing, and geophysical testing at the UEC site to inform the design of the new connecting tunnel and shaft, providing critical information including rock mass hydraulic conductivity, lateral soil and rock pressures, groundwater levels, and rock joint orientations.
