Closure of Ashford Slip between New Lots Avenue and Livonia Avenue, Brooklyn

NYCDOT is proposing to close Ashford Slip between New Lots Avenue and Livonia Avenue to create a pedestrian plaza (New Lots Triangle Plaza) in Brooklyn Community Board 5. The project will consist of approximately 3,800 square feet (sq. ft.) of open space available to local residents, shoppers and restaurant patrons. The plaza was created by demolishing an 800 sq. ft. cobblestone traffic island and joining the plaza to the adjacent sidewalk and the staircase of the New Lots Avenue train station. The plaza will be maintained by the New Lots Avenue Triangle Merchants Association and is supported by the local merchants, residents and the community board. The plaza design, which will calm traffic and provide improved safety for all street users, will include granite blocks, planters with trees, umbrellas, and movable furniture.
