Rockaway Parkway Corridor Safety Improvements from Flatlands to Seaview Avenues

DOT is proposing corridor safety improvements on Rockaway Parkway from Flatlands Avenue to Seaview Avenue in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn Community Board 18. Rockaway Parkway is a Vision Zero Priority Corridor with 21.3 Killed or Severely Injured (KSI) per mile between 2012 and 2016. The proposed pedestrian safety islands will provide safer crossings, separated left-turn bays will create safer turns for vehicles and a parking lane stripe will calm traffic along the corridor. The Build year is 2018. Specific improvements include:  Reconfigure the pavement markings from a four travel-lane cross section to a three travel-lane cross section including one through lane and an exclusive left turn lane in each direction on Rockaway Parkway;  Construct twelve pedestrian safety islands on Rockaway Parkway at seven intersections along the corridor;  Install parking lane stripe along Rockaway Parkway; and  Upgrade all crosswalks to high-visibility.
