Fourth Avenue Safety Improvements, Brooklyn
Ceqr: 15DOT006K • Project Name: Fourth Avenue Safety Improvements, Brooklyn • Borough: Brooklyn
Ceqr

Project Name
Fourth Avenue Safety Improvements, Brooklyn
Project Description
NYCDOT is proposing to upgrade the existing painted (flush) median with concrete on Fourth Avenue between 33rd and 52nd Streets in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn Community Board 7 and Fourth Avenue between 8th and 18th Streets in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn Community Board 6. The proposal is building out the median in concrete in the same footprint of an existing painted median, and will not modify the existing roadway geometry. Fourth Avenue previously ranked in the top 10% of all Brooklyn corridors for killed or seriously injured per mile. In 2012 and 2013, NYCDOT implemented a major street redesign on Fourth Avenue from 15th to 65th Streets and from Atlantic Avenue to 15th Street. The new calming design, implemented in temporary materials, removed one traffic lane in each direction to bring traffic speeds down to the speed limit and expanding the medians by four feet on each side to increase pedestrian space in the median. In addition, low-volume left-turns were banned at select locations, widening the medians from 2 to 19 feet. An evaluation of the project in Spring 2014 found that the temporary materials project resulted in significant improvements for pedestrian and motor vehicle safety, without significant adverse effects to street users. The Build year is 2017.

Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Boulevard between West 110th and West 117th Streets
Project Description
Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard (ACPB), a high crash corridor, is a two-way roadway with a landscaped median separating the travel directions. In 2012, DOT reconfigured the boulevard from West 110th to West 153rd Streets with wide parking lanes, left-turn lanes, painted median extensions and extended pedestrian safety islands. As part of phase I of this project, the painted flush medians were upgraded with concrete between West 118th and West 125th Streets, West 129th and West 134th Streets, West 136th and West 144th Streets and West 146th and West 151st Streets. As part of this phase, DOT is proposing to upgrade the existing painted flush median with concrete between West 110th and West 117th Streets in the Central Harlem section of Manhattan Community District 10. The proposal, which is supported by the community board, will not modify the existing roadway geometry or traffic operations and will provide for a safe pedestrian crossing and enhance safety and operations for all street users.

Hunter Brook North Siphon Chamber
Ceqr: 12DEP006U • Project Name: Hunter Brook North Siphon Chamber • Borough: Upstate

Project Name
Hunter Brook North Siphon Chamber
Project Description
The Hunter Brook North Siphon Chamber allows access to the Catskill Aqueduct just before it passes in an inverted siphon beneath the valley of Hunter Brook. Access to the chamber is by use of an existing paved roadway leading from Jacob Street, approximately 700 feet west of its intersection with Hunter Brook Road, in the Town of Yorktown, New York. The asphalt roadway is deteriorated, causing snow removal to be difficult and thus limiting access by DEP Operations during winter months. In addition, rainwater tends to accumulate on the roadway, also making access difficult. In order to provide all-weather access to the siphon chamber, the roadway is proposed to be repaved with asphalt along the existing alignment. In addition grass-lined drainage ditches along the roadway will be developed to handle the runoff.
