Project Description
NYCDOT, as the lead agency, with the design and implementation services of the Department of Design and Construction (DDC), is proposing to widen and improve Amboy Road between Richmond Avenue on the west and Armstrong Avenue on the east on Staten Island. The proposed project would result in additional travel lanes, new medians, and would reconstruct approximately 2,000 linear feet of Amboy Road (approximately 143,831 square feet of surface area) to current NYCDOT design standards with relocated curbs, sidewalks, and street lighting. To implement the proposed project, the City must acquire within the mapped City right-of-way private land, which comprises portions of the front yards, parking areas, and driveways of commercial and auto-related properties, and a portion of the parking area of the Eltingville Station U.S. Post Office. With the proposed project, an estimated 31 street trees would be cleared. Therefore, DDC, in conjunction with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), would implement a tree replacement, transplanting, and protection plan as part of the project, which calls for 42 new trees to be planted along Amboy Road. The proposed action is located in the Eltingville neighborhood Staten Island Community District 3.
