Kensico Reservior Shoreline Stabilization at DA Shaft 18

The Kensico Shoreline Stabilization Project is intended to provide stabilization and protection against wind and wave action in the project area near Shaft 18 at the Kensico Reservoir, in order to minimize erosion and maintain turbidity levels in compliance with state and federal water quality standards. The objective of the project is cost-effective stabilization that can be constructed with minimal disturbance to the shoreline and cove areas, while maintaining the normal water elevation in the reservoir. Stabilization of these areas would be accomplished through placement of riprap along the two locations of the shoreline (approximately 1,200 linear feet in total).

Rockaway Beach Boulevard Traffic Safety Improvements

DOT is proposing safety improvement measures along Rockaway Beach Boulevard between Beach 73rd and Beach 89th Streets in the Rockaway Beach/Arverne section of Queens Community Board 14. This section is categorized by 50 to 90 foot-wide streets and low traffic volumes. The proposal (attached) would enhance safety for all street users (i.e., pedestrians, cyclists, transit users and motorists) of this 0.7 mile corridor by providing safer pedestrian crossing, reducing pedestrian/vehicle conflicts and slowing speeding vehicles. The action, which will adhere to the NYCDOTs Street Design Manual, will include left-turn bays, planted medians, tree pits, a widened sidewalk channelized median, wide parking lanes, and parking lane stripes. In addition, one travel lane will be removed in each direction from Beach 81st to Beach 86th Streets as well as striped angle parking along the north sides of this segment. The proposal has been approved by Queens Community Board 14 and the Build year is 2015.
