Project Description
NYC DOT is proposing to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility by using concrete and painted materials to build shorter, safer pedestrian crossings, organize vehicles on the roadway, and encourage slower, safer turns. The scope of the project covers seven project sites: 30th Street and 2nd Avenue in Manhattan, Fox Street, Westchester Avenue, East 16th Street and Southern Boulevard in the Bronx, Broadway, Isham and 211th Street in Manhattan, New Lots Avenue and Van Siclen Avenue in Brooklyn, East Tremont Avenue and Whittemore Avenue in the Bronx, East 170th Street, Teller Avenue to Morris Avenue in the Bronx, and Riverside Drive and Henry Hudson Parkway Off-ramps in Manhattan. All work will occur within the existing built streets and the NYC DOT right-of-way. Specific improvements include the following: Site 1: 30th Street and 2nd Avenue, Manhattan: Build out of a concrete median tip extension at 2nd Avenue and East 30th Street; and Concrete median sidewalk extension along 2nd Avenue Service Road from East 30th Street to East 32nd Street. Site 2: Riverside Drive and Henry Hudson Parkway Off-Ramps, Manhattan: Build out of a concrete curb extension; and Build out of a concrete median tip with accessible pedestrian curb ramps. Site 3: Broadway, Isham and 211th Street, Manhattan: Replacement of the painted curb extension with a concrete curb extension. Site 4: East 170th Street, Teller Avenue to Morris Avenue, Bronx: Build out of two concrete curb extensions at East 170th Street and Teller Ave. Site 5: Fox Street, Westchester Avenue, East 165th Street and Southern Boulevard, Bronx: Build out of a concrete curb extension at Westchester Avenue and East 165th Street; Build out of a concrete planted island at Westchester Avenue, East 165th Street and Fox Street; and Build out of a concrete island at Westchester and Southern Boulevard. Site 6: East Tremont and Whittemore Avenue, Bronx Replacement of the painted curb extension with a concrete curb extension; and Build out the driveway to St. Raymonds Cemetery in a new sidewalk extension. Site 7: New Lots Avenue and Van Siclen Avenue, Brooklyn Replacement of the painted island extension at New Lots Avenue and Van Siclen Avenue with a concrete island extension.
