DSNY Rule Amending Set-Out Time for Solid Waste and Recyclable Materials Collections
Project Description
The Department of Sanitation (DSNY) proposes to amend its rules governing the permitted hours of the day for residents and businesses to place solid waste and recyclable materials out at the curb for collection by DSNY and by private carters. Currently, DSNY requires, through Section 16-120 of the New York City Administrative Code, that all sold waste and recyclables be kept inside a building or at the rear of a building until the permitted set-out time set in the rules for collection by DSNY or a private carter. For all residential properties, DSNY rules currently allow the placement of waste and recyclables at the curb in plastic bags beginning at 4:00 p.m. For commercial properties, DSNY rules allow the placement of waste and recyclables at the curb either one hour before the businesses' closing or two hours before their scheduled collection. The proposed rule changes will be effective on December 31, 2022.
