Bramley Mt. Fire Tower
Project Description
New York City Department of Environmental Protection is reviewing the proposal to reconstruct a historic fire tower that once stood on the Bramley Mountain (a/k/a proposed action), located on a DEP-owned property off Glenn Bernie Road, in the Town of Delhi, Delaware County. Delaware County and Friends of Bramley Mountain Fire Tower have proposed to reconstruct the fire tower that once stood on the summit of Bramley Mountain until the 1970s. Access to the fire tower would be via the existing Bramley Mountain Trail located off Glen Burnie Road and operated by the Catskill Mountain Club. Returning the tower to the summit of Bramley is intended to make the trail an even more significant draw, and would be an economic, recreational, historical, and cultural benefit to the local community. The approximately 100-foot-tall steel tower would sit on a approximately 1,600 sq.ft. base anchored by concrete piers. Post construction inspections and maintenance would be performed by Friends of Bramley Mountain Fire Tower. The proposed action involves constructing a new set of four (4) concrete piers on which the tower would be erected. The tower structure would be constructed out of structural steel members and metal plank grating.
