Phosphate Storage Facility Cone Penetration Testing
Project Description
New York City Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP) proposes to design and construct a new temporary structure to house a 9000-gal phosphoric acid tank and its associated equipment adjacent to the Existing Chlorination Buildings (constructed in the 1980s) located at the Hillview Reservoir campus in the City of Yonkers. Subsurface cone penetration testing (CPT) needs to be conducted to advance the proposed structural design of the phosphate storage facility. As there is no existing geotechnical information available for the proposed location of the phosphate storage facility, performing CPTs would provide a detailed definition of the stratigraphic profile and penetration resistance data that can be used to evaluate the structural design of the facility. The proposed CPT locations would be approximately 169- to 194-feet away from the Second South Existing Facility Building.

Project Name
Rehabilitation of 191st Street Pedestrian Tunnel
Project Description
NYC DOT is proposing the rehabilitation of 191st street pedestrian tunnel, which connects Broadway to St. Nicholas Avenue. This tunnel provides not only a valuable connection for residents west of Broadway to the 1 Subway line, but also serves to interconnect the neighborhood west and east of Broadway, which are at two different elevations. An inspection of the tunnel in 2017 identified the following major areas of concern: Hollow areas, horizontal and vertical cracks, and spalled areas of concrete; Evidence of water leaking, seen from the bottom of the arc near the beginning of the tunnel; Worn out and broken staircase down to the tunnel missing iron plates; Vertical and horizontal cracks with signs of water leaking at two locations near electrical fixtures; Water springing out through scuppers causing flooding along the tunnel; and Non-ADA compliant ramps. Through a Design/Build contract, this project will address the above issues. The tunnel will need to be closed during construction and shuttle bus service will be provided to ferry individuals between the tunnel portals. The proposed project is located in the Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan Community Board 12. The estimated time of completion (Build year) is 2025.
