Project Description
Sumet I is made up of 5 six-story buildings and 7 five-story buildings totaling 201 units and located in Williamsburg. The sponsor acquired all 12 buildings in 1978, which are based in the City Council District 34 and Brooklyn Community District 1. The building is currently owned by Sumet I Associates, and there will be no changes in ownership. All the units except the super unit receive Section 8 under a HUD project-based Mark Up to Market HAP Contract. A partial Article V tax exemption would continue to maintain affordability and enable the owner to make improvements to the units. There are 4 studios, 43 one-bedrooms, 90 two-bedrooms, 53 three-bedrooms, 10 four-bedrooms, and 1 supers unit in the total portfolio. Sumet I includes 8 elevators, a laundromat, and community space. The sponsor is looking to pursue a moderate rehabilitation, which is expected to include air sealing, boiler retro-commissioning, installation of a mechanical air vent in the boiler room, pipe insulation, and roof insulation. There is no ground disturbance, but the sponsor is expected to consider demolition as part of the scope of work at different points during the next three-year period.
