NYCDOT is proposing Corridor Safety Improvements at nine intersections along Northern Boulevard between Honeywell Street and Broadway (attached) in the Sunnyside section of Queens Community Districts 1 and 2. Northern Boulevard is a Vision Zero priority corridor with 17.5 Killed or Severely Injured per mile. The improvements will include:  Installing 14 pedestrian refuge islands;  Adding new crosswalks at Northern Boulevard at 48th Street and Northern Boulevard at 49th Street;  Traffic signal retiming/phasing at various intersections;  Painted and concrete curb extensions and restriping;  Turn prohibitions at four locations and closure of a right-turn slip lane at one location;  Reconstructing Newtown Road and Woodside Triangles; and  Reversing the street direction of 48th and 49th Streets between Newtown Road and Northern Boulevard and one block of Newtown Road. The proposal would improve safety for all street users, provide safer and shorter pedestrian crossings and simplify intersection geometry. The Community Boards support the proposed action.

DEP is proposing to completely refurbish and upgrade the Clearview Pump Station (CPS). The major components of the proposed project are as follows: Converting the interim PS to a turning manhole/fore-bay, removing the existing pumps, discharge piping and valve vault and installing concrete bench walls from the influent sewer to the outlet gates directing flow to the permanent PS wet well. Replacing the 208 volt (V) utility power service entrance from the existing Consolidated Edison transformers located under the sidewalk to the permanent PS with a new 208V service. Installing four new 4,500-gallon-per-minute (gpm) submersible pumps in the permanent PS divided wet well (two pumps each side). Reconfiguring the permanent PS drywell into a shallower valve vault for pump discharge piping and valves and connection to the existing 24-inch force main.Raising the top slab of the permanent PS drywell/new valve vault to above the base flood elevation. Relocating a 48 inch storm sewer that traverses the western portion of the site, further west on the traffic island. Constructing a building over the elevated permanent PS drywell/new valve vault to house electrical power distribution and controls for the permanent PS; constructing a permanently installed standby 500 kilowatt (KW) diesel-fueled engine driven emergency generator with subbase fuel tank; construction a restroom and stairwell to the permanent PS drywell/new valve vault. Installing a bridge crane with stationary monorail extension for removing and replacing equipment in the new valve vault and wet well suitable for loading and unloading equipment from service vehicles. Providing an above-grade quick connection to the existing force main for connection of a temporary portable engine driven pump providing the ability to pump around the permanent PS.Providing site restoration and protection including a physical traffic barrier with traffic attenuator at the southern end of the property triangle to prevent traffic from leaving the Clearview Expressway exit ramp and entering the CPS site. Providing landscaping with pervious material within a new fence line and reseeding outside areas with native vegetative grasses.

The applicant, Wilfrid Developers, LLC, is requesting approval for construction financing (the Proposed Action) to facilitate the development of affordable housing units in the Tremont neighborhood of Bronx Community District (CD) 6. The project site (Block 2924, Lots 7, 10, 25, 30, 34) has an area of approximately 36,086 square feet (sf) with approximately 180 feet of frontage on the east side of Bathgate Avenue and 215 feet of frontage on the west side of Third Avenue (see Figure 1). The Proposed Action would facilitate the construction of an approximately 225,268 gross square foot (gsf) development consisting of approximately 190 affordable dwelling units (DUs), approximately 23,489 gsf of commercial space, approximately 2,491 gsf of community facility space, and 39 accessory parking spaces, as well as approximately 12,780 sf of private open space for tenants. Construction of the proposed development is expected to begin in 2016 with all components complete and fully operational by late 2018.
