Inquiry
‘firstname’ & ‘lastname’ variables are case sensitive. Pair that with the fact that the assigned registrationcontactid for a given contact is building-specific, and you leave next to no ability for people to consolidate the actions of a registered agent across buildings, and you leave developers open to the margin of error that comes with two individuals having the same name.
Let’s also discuss the fact that some registered agents use “johN doE” “j doe” “J DOE” “JOHN DOE” “John doe” “john Doe” “john doe”… and so on in order to hide their affiliations and behaviors as registered agents at other specific properties. This is a MASSIVE error.. if it was even accidental in the first place.. it teeters on a violation of the Housing Maintenance Code, which specifically states that information in these registrations cannot be misleading or inaccurate. Implement case insensitivity, and even fuzzy matching. Assign ONE unique registrationcontactid to ONE unique individual. As it stands, the registrationcontactid serves no purpose. The registered agent of my building has 30+ different ones. One for each building. That defeats the purpose. Thankfully, I was able to consolidate data on my private server and implement the things that I am suggesting. The result? Game changing. I am able to see all LLCs that my landlord is associated with, all BINs — so all buildings. I then query the HPD Violations dataset and am able to see how many violations all of their buildings have, how many are open, closed, what class they are, and how long they have been letting them go.
For some perspective here:
- I am a college dropout.
- You are the government.
- One of us makes a living helping small businesses make videos for social media.
- One of us collects their income through taxes.
The fact also that I need to report this is in-and-of-itself horrifying.
Warmest regards,

Thank you for your suggestions regarding property registration. We will review what technology changes are necessary and feasible at this time to make our data as user-friendly as possible for the purposes of analysis and grouping. We appreciate that this information is widely used and can provide valuable insight into conditions across buildings.
