Inquiry
I know that Uber started to incorporate the hailing of the yellow taxis on their platform a few years ago. I hope to do some research related to these trips, and have a few questions regarding the public TLC trip records:
1. For the yellow taxi trips that are hailed on the Uber app, are they in the Yellow taxi trip record dataset or High-Volume For-Hire Vehicle trip record dataset, or are they in any of the public datasets at all? I have this question because from my understanding, while these trips are executed by yellow taxi, the trip records should be recorded via the Uber app database and not the taxi meter.
2. If they are included in one of these public datasets, are there any identifiers that show whether the trip is hailed on street or online via an app?
3. If this information is not available in the public dataset, are we able to request it for research purposes?
Thank you so much!

Assigned Agencys Response
We received your inquiry from the NYC Open Data Helpdesk. Our response is as follows:
1. Uber-forwarded yellow taxi trips show up in the taxi data since they were performed by a taxi. Unfortunately, we don’t have information to distinguish which rides were forwarded from Uber.
2. We are able to identify trip records for e-hail rides (hailed through apps like Curb/Arro). For yellow, flex fare e-hails can be identified from payment_type=0; for green, it would be payment_type is null and trip_type is null.
Hope that helps.
Best,
