2 men were arrested for shooting 4 men outside of a restaurant on February 10th, 2023. See this nypost article:

This appears to be incident key 263503175 in the dataset. There are 16 records with the incident key 263503175. The dictionary says each row is a unique incident. This is not true. It is a unique combination of incident, victim, perpetrator, and something else. What am I missing? I want to build a dataset where each row is a unique combination of victim and incident. How do I do that?

However, every time I've looked at the map in the last week, all the points that have been plotted out on the map for hydrant locations disappear within a second or two. Can you please advise me on how this issue can be resolved?

Thank you for contacting the Open Data HelpDesk regarding WKT field for the Automated Traffic Volume Counts data. This field contains X,Y coordinates and not the common Lat, Long coordinates. You will need a GIS application to make the conversion, such as ArcMap or QGIS (open source).
Helpful guides- some basic GIS knowledge is required:
1) ArcMap- use the Calculate Geometry tool in the attribute table. More information about the tool on the ArcGIS website:https://desktop.arcgis.com/en/arcmap/latest/manage...
2) ESRI community forum (https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-api-for-flex-questions/how-to-convert-x-y-to-lat-long/td-p/353854).
To do:
1. Remove the parentheses for the WKT and separate the numbers (before and after the space) into LAT column and Long column.
2. Load the data into the GIS application as a CSV, add new columns in the attribute table (lat,and long).
3. Use the Calculate Geometry tool in the attribute table (right click on the column header) to process the conversion. Fill in as follows:
a. Coordinates system of the data sources: NAD1983 State Plane New York Long Island FIPS 3104 Feet
b. Use coordinate system of the data frame: WGS 1984
c. Units: Decimal Degree

3) QGIS- free to download, more information from this blog: https://www.gisoutlook.com/2020/05/coordinate-conv...
To do:
1) Import CSV file: Layer -> Add Layer -> Add Delaminated Text Layer (CSV file)-> (keep everything else as default) only change Geometry CRS: EPSG:2263- NAD83/ New York Long Island (ftUS) -> add
2) Export layer+ Conversion: Export-> Save Feature As-> File Name: (select where to save the new file) Fill in as follows:
a. Format: CSV
b. CRS: EPSG:4326- WGS 84
c. Geometry: AS_XY

The Unique key/ identifier used for these records does not line up with the record ID's used on the website the city provides to look up these records (https://portal.311.nyc.gov/check-status/)

As part of an SBS-funded grant project to support small BIDs, my team has been working to help BIDs access and utilize data sets like this. They're biggest gripe so far is that they're unable to fully utilize the 311 data set because of this issue with the unique identifier fields not lining up. If the city could expose a new field that lines up with the 311 report lookup system, this would resolve their issue with this data set.

The zoom bar that's usually on the left-hand side will pop up when the page initially loads, but disappears in an instant. I've tried on multiple devices, and nothing works.

I am a NYC native and current Public Administration student at LSE doing my master's dissertation on how increases in homelessness during COVID-19 vary with community district.

Would you be able to clarify if it gives the number of individuals whose last address is from that district, or does it give the number of individuals who are in a shelter in that district? My team is conducting a study of NYC Green Carts. We are currently looking at the NYC Open Data Street Vendors Violations data set (based on the OATH Hearings Division Case Status.) Given the size of this dataset, I wonder whether there is a clear cut way to discern which of the violations are related to Green Cart Vendors specifically.

We are considering filtering by Issuing Agency (would this be DOHMH?) and by charge code and charge code description. Can you advise on whether there are other variables that would be useful for this task, and whether there are a list of Green Cart specific codes you might be able to share?

Hurricane Evacuation Zones were created by the NYC Emergency Management (NYCEM) office. You can find all the information related to coastal storm and hurricane preparedness on their website. The Department of City Planning (DCP) releases the data as part of a quarterly update to NYC political and administrative districts, which are aligned to the NYC street centerlines and non-street features.

Based on the metadata provided:
Hurricane Evacuation Zones are determined by New York City Emergency Management and represent varying threat levels of coastal flooding resulting from storm surge. Hurricane evacuation zones should not be confused with flood insurance risk zones, which are designated by FEMA and available in the form of Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs).

You need to reach out to the NYC Emergency Management office. They created the Hurricane Evacuation zones and conducted the SLOSH model analysis.
We can mention that hurricane categories do not have a direct correlation with the evacuation zones, but the more severe the category of hurricane, the more potential of impact on more evacuation zones. Superstorm Sandy was not even categorized as a hurricane when it reached NYC in 2012 but still impacted many of the evacuation zones.

There is a big jump from the LL37 to LL79 temporary housing data and I would like to know the best way to use the data. The description says it should be comparable, but there's a big jump between datasets. Specifically...

In April 2023, the LL37 report has a total of 25,000 under “adults in families” . The categories here are category = “number of unduplicated persons” & Facility = “DHS administered facilities"
In May 2023, the LL79 report shows a total of 34,633 adults in families, a nearly 10k increase. In this data the field names are slightly different, but the closest comparison seemed to be category = "total number of individuals utilizing city-administered facilities" & facility = "DHS administered facilities"
There is also a significant increase in the number of adult families, from 3,273 to 4,083 from April to May across the datasets. There are increases between these two months in other categories, but they seem more in line with the average month-to-month fluctuation historically. These jumps stand out.
As a result, tabulating the total number of people in DHS shelters (adding the total children, adults in families, and single adults) between April and May also jumps up substantially.

I’d like to know what the right way to compare this data across time would be (the description of the data says it should be comparable) and if so which fields to use. With the field name changes and this increase, I want to know if this is a proper comparison, if there really was this increase in people in shelter between April and May, or if the data reporting methods changed, and if so, how.

Our organization uses the DOB site to check on the ongoing construction works. After multiple times crossing reference between the "Build – Job Application Filings" and "Build – Approved Permits" I found a gap in which the Job Application shows this project has a certain work type permit, but when checking the same Job Filing Number (or BIN) on the "Build – Approved Permits" is not found.

Is this because the permit for that work type on "Approved permits" expired and was not updated on the "Application Filings"?
What report is outdated, and which one is good to use?
