For example, see the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (agency 858) request date 07/27/2023. The list shows 1162, 1168, and 1173, but skips 1170. It seems like an error. Why is it skipping 1170? Do I need to contact DCAS?

1. I understand that the PD codes (variable name: PD_CD) 254 and 267, as well as 441 can be used to identify thefts of motor vehicle parts as well as motor vehicle thefts, respectively. If I am keen to look specifically at the theft of catalytic converters, is there any suggested means to identify such incidents from the above-mentioned dataset? Or alternatively, would it be possible to request for this data please?

2. Has the hierarchy rule been applied to this dataset, or otherwise, could you advise how are multiple offenses under a single incident dealt with in this dataset? I am interested to distinguish between incidents that consist solely of autopart thefts and incidents that also include other offenses (such as an incident that involves both an autopart theft as well as a theft of personal belongings from the motor vehicle).

I have looked through the dataset and noted that there are a few complaint numbers (variable name: CMPLNT_NUM) which are repeated inside the dataset. However, for the rows corresponding to each of these complaint numbers, they record the same PD codes. Hence, I am uncertain if this implies that (a) the repeated entry was meant for some other purpose, (b) most/all recorded crimes are single-offense incidents and not multi-offense incidents, and/or (c) a hierarchy rule is imposed such that even if a single incident has multiple offenses attributed to it, only the most serious offense is recorded.

I am curious how to interpret data entries occurring on the same date, for the same building, at the same price for multiple units in the building. For example, why did ***** sell multiple units for $2,500 on 2/11/2020? Do these prices represent a total sale of the building at the price listed? Or should I attribute the listed sale price as a unit sale for each unit listed? From my review of the data, this happens across all price points, low and high. Thank you.

The particular sales records referred in the inquiry are coop sales at the unit level based on DOF’s reviews from ACRIS for BBL *****, the BBL for *****. The reason that the document amount is low is because they are HDFC coops units (a type of affordable housing program ) as shown by the party 1 for these sales in ACRIS. In general, one can cross reference ACRIS to interpret data entries occurring on the same date, for the same building, at the same price for multiple units in the building.

I am trying to display a visual representing the entirety of the child population living in NYC's various shelters (DHS + DYCD + HPD + etc). I found all the Local Law 37 datasets and have created queries for them. However I also discovered the above dataset that seems to combine all of the older local law 37 tables into one table, which is ideal. However, there is no historical data, and I noticed all those individual Local Law 37 sets have not been updated since April and this new dataset picks up in May.

My question:
To get historical all-encompassing shelter data, do we need to make queries to all the old local law 37 tables and then get to anything newer than April 2023, we need to query this new dataset?

I wrote earlier about the Open Violations in NYC not updating since September, 2022. I got Response ID 3835287 that the data was now updated to the latest available. However, the total violations across all of NYC are still reported as 2,206,086 over the last several days, and that has not changed since 9/14/22. It is impossible that in all of NYC, the number of total open violations has not changed in 10 months. Therefore, the data set is not updating daily with changes in HPD violations, as it should.

We pull daily A+B+C open violations for all of NYC, which is 2,206,086 as of 6/29/22. However, this amount has not changed since 9/14/22, when it was 2,206,317. It seems crazy the number of open violations across all of NYC has not changed in 9 months...but I guess it is based on HPD update frequency. Is this accurate that despite the data set updating daily, NYC Open Data open violations rarely changes?

Hello NYC Open Data Team,
I am following up on the issue I reported here: https://nyc-moda.forms.fm/nyc-open-data-team-help-desk/responses/8NLBUJVuuCyG?response_id=8NLBUJVuuCyG on 6/14.

After further analysis I have some additional findings that may be of use:
It appears all HPD Violations that are being added to the the daily file (that have an inspection date in 2023) have an invalid "Current Status Date." When comparing the daily HPD Violation files from 6/21/23 and 6/22/23, I found that all 2,925 records that were added had erroneous status dates such as "01/03/0006." The total amount of records with invalid Status Dates has increased to 126,276 from 105,780 (on 6/14/23). This is a net increase of 20,496. Since it appears that this is affecting ALL newly entered HPD records, this seems like a major issue in the data processing pipeline. Additionally, I found that Neighborhood Tabulation Area (NTA) field for all affected records was "0." I point this out incase, this is some how related to the issue at hand. I hope any of my findings can help expedite a solution to this issue. The "Current Status Date" is critical to how we consume this data-set and we hope for a swift and comprehensive correction. Hi, this is *****, a researcher at *****, conducting research optimizing school buses in NYC.

This dataset is very helpful! But I notice that fewer records are available in recent years.
In 2015, there are 2678 streets available (having traffic volume counts), and in 2019, 1693 streets. But in 2020, only 328 rows available and in 2021, only 65 streets available.

I have double-checked the aforementioned. Could you please kindly let me know why fewer records are available ,and whether it's possible for me get those missing records later in this year.

Hi NYC Open Data,
I've been working with this dataset and observed that most of the sections of piers or reclaimed land in the East River off the west coastline of Brooklyn are labeled as being a part of the Manhattan borough. The sections are south of the Brooklyn Bridge, and west of Brooklyn Heights and the Columbia Waterfront. There are also a few docks or piers west of Williamsburg.

I've searched online to try to find more information about this and haven't found anything.

I assume these may be labeled in this way because of a policy or agreement that defines everything west of the Brooklyn coastline (all area of the East River) is part of Manhattan, and these sections fall within those boundaries or requirements.

Interestingly, most of Brooklyn Bridge Park is considered part of Manhattan, but other developed waterfront areas like John Street Park are not.

I'm curious to know more about the history of this if it is not an error, or of documents where these rules are defined. Do you know why these sections that are physically connected with Brooklyn are labeled as part of Manhattan?

This is not an error, the Borough Boundaries extend into the waterways and are defined in the City Charter (https://codelibrary.amlegal.com/codes/newyorkcity/latest/NYCadmin/0-0-0-94).  The Manhattan boundary extends to the "low-water mark on the shore of Long Island" so you will also notice this for any piers in Queens along the East River.

The borough of Manhattan shall consist of the territory known as New York county... thence across the East river to the low-water mark on the shore of Long Island, so as to include Randall's Island and Ward's Island; thence along the low-water mark on the shore of Long Island to the southerly side of Red Hook; thence across the Upper bay to the westerly boundary of the state...
