I see that the evictions dataset no longer has a field for “Scheduled Status”, to indicate whether the eviction was scheduled vs. pending. I have data through Feb 2019 that has this information and it’s in the dataset description, but I no longer see it in the dataset. Does this mean that the dataset now only includes executed evictions, indicated by the “Executed Date” field?

For various reasons “scheduled status” was removed because the schedule for an actual eviction date can be changed numerous times. To accurately reflect eviction data, only “executed date” is now listed and it is generally updated within 24-36 hours. Thank you.

Good afternoon, my name is ***** I’m a student at the University of ***** and had a question about the NYPD’s Shooting Incident Data (Historic). Is there a way to obtain shooting incident data from the years before 2006 from the NYPD?

Furthermore, the Data Dictionary for the dataset states that “shooting incidents occurring near an intersection are represented by the X coordinate and Y coordinates of the intersection Shooting incidents occurring anywhere other than at an intersection are geo-located to the middle of the nearest street segment where appropriate.”
Is there any way possible to obtain information on the exact XY coordinates of the shooting incidents from the NYPD from a data use agreement or other privacy agreement with the department? I appreciate any help you can give me in this endeavor and hope to hear back from you soon.

DSNY submitted requests to remove the three DSNY Open Data datasets that contained derelict vehicle information because the data for these datasets came from a legacy system that DSNY no longer maintains. Current information on derelict vehicles can be found in the following 311 Open Data set: https://data.cityofnewyork.us/Social-Services/311-Service-Requests-from-2010-to-Present/7ahn-ypff. On this dataset, if you search for “derelict vehicles”(plural) in Complaint Type, you will see entries from DSNY (which handles derelict vehicle complaints for vehicles that don’t have license plates). If you search for “derelict vehicle” (singular) in Complaint Type, you will see entries from NYPD (which handles derelict vehicle complaints for vehicles that do have license plates). If you search for “abandoned vehicle” in Complaint Type, you will see derelict vehicle towing information which is handled by NYPD. I'm using the 311 data (filtered between 2016-11 to 2021-10, complaint type = Dirty Condition, Dirty Conditions) to work on my waste management project. I realized that some of the data was missing for 2021-10 and the number of calls is significantly lower. 2021-10 is also when DSNY stopped updating sidewalk rating data. Was there any organizational change that caused this? Please let me know if the agency is using another name for the complaint type or datasets.

311 Service Requests from 2020 to Present

There are multiple reasons for the issues that you noticed. Due to the rollout of a new system to handle 311 service requests in September 2021, a number of old complaint types were deprecated and merged with new complaint types. For example, “Dirty Conditions” that existed before is now only known as “Dirty Condition”. The descriptors associated with complaints have also been deprecated, and some don’t exist anymore.

The Department of Sanitation is currently working with DoITT (the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications) to figure out a technical solution to connect the old and new complaint types so that historical comparisons can be made. Once the data is corrected by DoITT, the 311 datasets will have to be republished. We cannot provide a timeframe when this will happen since we do not control this process.

Please note that the Scorecard Inspection program, which measures and reports on street and sidewalk cleanliness across the city’s five boroughs, is a program managed through the Mayor’s Office of Operations (not the Department of Sanitation) so you will need to direct your questions regarding this program to them. I am conducting research on illegal parking in New York City, and I have noticed a few confusing patterns in this dataset that I am seeking explanation for.
1. Is there a reason for a large increase in the volume of requests starting in 2019 and continuing into 2022? Was there a system change?
2. In 2020, there is a significant drop in illegal parking related requests in the months of April/May, which I assume has something to do with COVID changes, but I would love to know the specific reason for the drop.
3. The most confusing anomaly is the month of April 2021. There is a very significant drop in requests in this month, and I was wondering if something happened during this month to cause that.
Of course, any of these changes could perhaps be natural, but since they do not seem that way I would really appreciate any background info you have on these patterns.

Hi there, this data seems to have incorrect borough-community district numbers, inconsistent with other city data. For example, 100s are in Manhattan, the 100s reflect the Bronx in the Community Health Survey. This dataset also says there are 60 community districts, not 59. Meanwhile, the Community health data set has 4 districts in Staten Island and there are only 3 here. Similarly, they code 7 districts in the Bronx, but there are 12 here. 10 in queens for them, 14 for this data, etc. Ideally, I would like to link connectivity by each of the 59 community districts to health outcome data. Thanks!
