Inquiry
Dear OpenData team,
This is *****, a graduate student at *****. I'm currently doing a research project and part of my concentration is on the roadway conditions/issues in NYC. I find the Street Pavement/Assessment Rating dataset helpful, but I'm having a hard time acquiring enough useful information about the details of these ratings, such as how they are calculated, what methods are used and what aspects are considered during the process, etc. I'm wondering if there's a document or at least a detailed explanation on these items. There's a deadline on my work so I'm a little pressed for time. I would appreciate it a lot if you can offer some feedback!
Many thanks,
*****

Thank you for your inquiry on the Street Pavement Ratings data. New York City roadways uses a 1-10 scale for street ratings, 1-3- Poor, 4-7- Fair and 8-10 (7 on local streets)- Good. The ratings are conducted by staff inspectors that checks for Rutting, Cracking, Raveling, Potholes, Patching, and Fatigue. The conditions are input into an in-house computer application using a scale of Low, Med, High and Small, Med, Large, the computer uses an algorithm to formulate a numerical rating.
Ratings:
10- No distress (newly constructed) (Good)
9- No distress (Good)
8- Less or equal to 5% distress (Good)
7- 5%-10% distress (Good on local Street otherwise Fair)
6- 10%-25% distress (Fair)
5- 25%-50% distress (Fair)
4- About 40%-60% distress (Fair)
3- 50%- 70% distress (Poor)
2- More or equal to 75% distress (Poor)
1- More or equal to 75% distress (Poor)
