I am trying to use the Yellow Taxi Trip Data of various years along with the linked dataset regarding Taxi Zones, but there seems to be zones that go beyond the 262 (upwards of 265) in some of the trip data. Is there a particular reason for why those few Taxi Zones are missing from the Taxi Zones dataset?
Assigned Agencys Response
Thanks for reaching out about the Taxi and Limousine Commission's Open Data. We appreciate you pointing out this issue-- because we publish taxi zones in shapefile format on NYC Open Data, only zones that can be mapped appear in the download. Zones 264 and 265 are codes used by the TLC to indicate that the trip was not mapped to an NYC neighborhood-- 264 indicates that the coordinates for the trip were corrupted or otherwise invalid, and 265 indicates that the coordinates were valid but not within the 5 boroughs (could be Connecticut, New Jersey [not Newark airport], Boston, etc). Zone 263 is Yorkville West and should have appeared in the list you downloaded, but because it is converted from a shapefile to a CSV it appears some values are lost. I will work with NYC Open Data to fix this.
For the complete taxi zone lookup, please visit the TLC website's trip record page:
