I'm trying to connect the PAD and PLUTO files using the BBL identifier. There are examples where the same building has different BBL codes in the two files. One example is 200 North End Avenue, which is BBL 1000164601 in pad and 1000167520 in pluto

This could be an issue related to the version of PAD and PLUTO you are using. Please confirm you are using the latest version of each:
PAD = 18D
PLUTO = 18v1.1

I looked up 200 North End Avenue in GOAT and it confirms the BBL is 1000167520.

Both BBLs are technically correct, they are just at different levels. This BBL indicates that the building is a Condo. With Condos, the complex receives a lot number in the 7500 range, and each individual condo unit receives a condo unit lot number (1001-6999). So on Block 16 in Manhattan, condo unit lot number 4601 is a unit inside condo complex lot number 7520. PLUTO always assigns the condo complex lot number, unless it does not exist yet - then it would list the condo unit lot number.

You can also confirm this by checking Department of Finance (DOF) Digital Tax Map (DTM) application by entering either BBL.

When I download this dataset via export-csv button (...sv7x-dduq/rows.csv?accessType=DOWNLOAD)
there is a problem with a line of the file for document_id=2016050400438019 where some json data is getting injected into the file somehow. The record looks correct on the portal, but the error is present in api queries as well (https://data.cityofnewyork.us/resource/sv7x-dduq.json?$query=select%20*%20where%20document_id=%272016050400438019%27).
This is what the line looks line in the downlaoded csv. I contacted Socrata and also looked back at the portal, and confirmed that this is a problem that occurred during the upload of the data rather than the processing, and so Socrata said that I should ask you about it again. On the portal if you filter for the record by document_id and expand the "CRFM" column you'll see that the same extra text is there. All they could say is that this extra information must have been included as a text string durring the upload, but didn't have any other advice on how to resolve it. Hopefully you all will be able to re-upload it and fix the issue. In case it's helpful, I downloaded the file only about a week ago and didn't have this problem then and this record is not a new one, so maybe just re-trying it will work?

A certification is a request by an agency to DCAS for a number of persons on a list who are eligible for appointment. Very often an agency may only have one opening but will request a list of a large group of eligible candidates. As a result, candidates who are included on a certification may not hear from an agency if the open position has been filled.

I would like to do analyses with this data but the data size is exceedingly large (10.5 gb as CSV) and I cannot load this file into stats software. I have seen other datasets that had a filter option. Not having a filter option for this database greatly reduces its utility. I doubt many users have the technical expertise or hardware to handle a database of this size. Alternatively, year-by-year data could be provided on the website.

The documentation indicates that cmplt_num is intended to be a unique ID so something must be going wrong. They are clearly two different complaints. This is the only case of the uniqueness of cmplt_num being violated.

I checked the three examples you gave, and the issue appears in the source data, which means this would be a more complicated fix than just refreshing open data.

I don't have an easy way to check the frequency of this problem. If these are the only 3 records in the past 3 years that are affected, I would ask you to treat them as outliers. If you find that the error is frequent enough that it adversely affects your analysis, please let me know.

In the meantime, I have logged the issue, and we will try to address correcting these 3 records when we get the chance.

Hello, Department of Buildings relies on NYC Geographical Online Address Translator to update block and lot information for any individual BIN#'s. GOAT recently updated BIN#***, they had corrected the lot number to lot ***** but in the process removed address information that DOB requires in order to apply for permits using their online portal. DOB's site now has a red error code on this BIN's page stating "NO PRE-BIS PLACE OF ASSEMBLY CERTIFICATES FOUND" and when we try to apply for permits another error saying "no address found" comes up. Can you help me? I tried emailing GOAT several times on this matter without any response and DOB also does not have any solution to fixing this.

The response indicated that the issue is not with Geosupport/GOAT (which contains the correct information you provided) but with DOB’s records. The address in question is still associated with lot 93 on our end.

I'm trying to recycle household plastic, paper, etc. My building doesn't recycle so I used the dataset to find dropoff locations. I found two sites close to me in the dataset. When I went in person, neither seems to exist. The two I visited were 115 Chrystie St and Seward Park (both outdoor spots in Manhattan).

What does the "s" entry mean? For example, in the JSON block for "THE CINEMA SCHOOL", "s" is used for all the variables except for the "dbn". What does "s" mean in this case? I am unable to find an explanation or key to this.

If you export a file in CSV/Excel format and try to open it in the Excel program, you will only be able to load about one million records as per this program's data size limitations. In order to generate the export files for 2016 and 2017 please use a filter feature of the platform. For example, for 2016, please follow the following filtering criteria:
CMPLNT_FR_DT is between 01/01/2016 and 12/31/2016. This filter will generate around 476K records which you can export and open in Excel.

I have a question regarding the air rights Y or N data. Does N mean the property does not have air rights? In particular we believe that Manhattan Block 1309 Lots 7, 107, 65 and 64 have air rights, but the data is showing a N for air rights. Is this the case? Thanks.

The ACRIS air rights flag is a property modifier selected by the ACRIS user when adding the property to the ACRIS tax forms or cover pages in advance of submission for recording. The flag is meant to indicate that the document in question covers the air rights associated with the underlying property at that BBL rather than the property itself.

With this in mind, a value of N does not indicate that a property does not have air rights.

I believe this may be due to how the Boiler ID is entered for these devices. On the DOB NOW Public Portal it looks like two IDs were crammed into the Boiler ID field which is only supposed to have one ID #.

Please note that summons 1005796464 was opened on "2016-12-18 11:30:00" and has no interest but a $10 penalty charged, summons number 1102218753 written on "2017-02-08 15:58:00" has a penalty of $60 and an interest charge of $21.41.

​Thank you for contacting NYC Open Data Help Desk. The penalty amounts assessed in STARS depend on the type of violation. For camera violations, only one $25 penalty is assessed. For all parking violations, three penalties are assessed ($10, $20, and $30). The application of interest begins when a violation enters judgment status, and is calculated as 9% simple interest. As to the timing of penalty assessments and entry of judgment, there are different schedules depending on the category of plate a summons was issued to. Penalty assessments do not move beyond the first penalty on summonses for which the liable owner could not be determined (as is likely the case with the cited summons 1005796464).

The recent construction work at consisted of a minor alteration that did not require a new Certificate of Occupancy. You can see the Letter of Completion for this job signed by the Commissioner of the Department of Buildings on 1/8/2018.

You are still using the wrong spelling for the family name of my great-uncle who was killed in line of duty in ***. The name is ***, not ***. The error was caused by a news reporter who misspelled the name in a report on the fire. His name was correctly spelled in the *** obituary that followed. It is also correctly engraved on the firemen's monument in Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn. Just in case you need to cross-check.

The 18D version of the NYC Election District shapefile appears to be missing a variety of precincts, such as AD 23 Precinct 72. In addition, the election results files appear to have some discrepancies: the pdf for the 2018 general election lists 0 votes for this same precinct, while the csv file for the same election lists hundreds of votes in this precinct.

NYC Election District 23072 is over a water body so it will only appear in the Election Districts (Water Areas Included) shapefile.
