New York City Police Department (NYPD)

Just two weeks ago I filtered this dataset and was able to find complaint number ***. It is now no longer showing up. Is there a reason why it is no longer showing up? Or might I be searching for this complaint number imcorrectly. I took a picture of my screen so I have verified that this is the correct number. There are also a number of other complaints that are not populating but I dont believe I am doing anything differently than the first time.

For the past several days I have not been able to find many of the Cycle 8 FISP grades at the DOB NOW: Safe - Facade Compliance Filings page. Cycle 7 grades are not showing as well. I cannot even find many of the ones that were once reported and shown on the page. A colleague is having the same problem. Is there an issue with this page?

Let me see if I can help you. I think you're looking at our DOB NOW: Safety – Facades Compliance Filings dataset.

To find what you're looking for, click on the Filter button at the top right, click Add a New Filter Condition, change TR6_NO to CYCLE, type the number of the cycle you're looking for into the text box below it, click the checkbox, and then the dataset will only show the cycle you typed in. 7 and 8 are there.

When looking at a single address, your best bet is to go to our Buildings Information System (BIS). There you can find all of the information that DOB has online for your building, including permits and violations.

That said, it looks like we do not have the C of O for your building online. It was likely issued before our database was created or the document was just never scanned. You can call our customer service line at (212) 566-5000 to find out how to get the C of O for your specific building.

Hi,
I work for the ***, and I'm creating a map to help us prioritize locations for green infrastructure upgrades in parks. We would like to consider poverty as one of the variables for prioritization. In the variable descriptions for this dataset (https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/opportunity/pdf/variable-descriptions.pdf) it includes Community Districts as a variable. However, in the data dictionary, Community Districts is not listed as a column, Is there anyway to get this dataset with the community districts included? Or with any other geographic locator that is at a finer scale than borough?

Thank you for contacting NYC Open Data Help Desk. Please be advised that the unweighted sample of each Community District (CD) is often too small to be statistically viable. For this reason we only look at data at the CD level using a five year average data file. This includes poverty rates and ACS reported data. The individual year data files available on line are not suitable and we will remove the CD variable from the data dictionary.

Hi, The metadata associated with the shape files of the release, "17v1" seems to be the metadata from a 2011 release. For example all dates of data collection are in 2011 despite the "Date Last Modified" of the files being in 2017. Could I have either access to the correct metadata, or the date the zoning data was collected from the DCP for that release (17v1). Thanks!

his is an issue with outdated metadata. If you scroll down (below the dates you are referring to) you land on a section that says:

“The spatial features of MapPLUTO 11V2 are derived from the Department of Finance's Digital Tax Map (DTM) from Sept02, 2011” – which is obviously out of date.

Here are the correct dates for version 17v1.1:
RPAD Date: 4/1/2017
DCAS Date: 4/1/2017
Zoning Date: 12/31/2017
Landmark Date: 5/9/2017
Base Map Date: 3/23/2017
MAS Date: 3/10/2017
Poli Date: 4/10/2017
E-Designation Date: 4/25/2017

Also, the reason 17v1.1 was not named 17v2 is because 17v1.1 was a re-release of 17v1 with corrections exclusively to the zoning fields. Version 17v1 went out and did not include the second half of the zoning changes for 2017. Once the mistake was caught, we released 17v1.1. Version 2 means all fields would have been updated.

The production of PLUTO and MapPLUTO has changed different personnel over the last few years and details like these may have been miscommunicated or neglected as the file transferred ownership.

The data isn't wrong; the field names are confusing. I'm working on an update to the data dictionary. In the meantime, WITHDRAWAL_FLAG is a number that indicates how many permits have been withdrawn from this job. To see if the entire job application has been withdrawn, you should look at SPECIAL_ACTION_STATUS. W indicates a withdrawn application.

All of the archived MapPLUTO datasets contain the pdf version of the Data Dictionary for each release and the shapefile contains a .xml that contains the embedded metadata. You can access that metadata via the Description tab if you are using ArcCatalog. The pdf metadata we release with the current version is just a printed version of the xml file from Arc Catalog.

Please consult those two items first. If you still are having difficulty accessing the metadata let us know and we will look into providing you the pdf versions another way.

I search on the critera you suggested and was able to find what is listed as the architect's license number. However, it seems to be the same as the zip code for the job. Yes, you can. Look at both of our job filing datasets: DOB Job Application Filings and DOB NOW: Build – Job Application Filings. You will need to search both because we are in the midst of transferring all filings to our new DOB NOW system.
The best way to search is to use the "Applicant License #" field. If you don't know the license number, you can try searching by the architect's first and last name or by company name, but these fields are not standardized and you will have to search for alternate spellings.

Your report about a license number being the same as the zip code for the job is strange. I would like to take a closer look to check for data errors. Please provide the license number and/or job number that you are looking at.

As for your question about finding an architect that you know has pulled permits with DOB, it could be that the particular architect you are looking for wasn't the lead architect on the job. A job application has a single applicant, and multiple permits can be pulled for each application. You might be able to find more information about this architect if you look at the permits pulled under this job. Check out our DOB Permit Issuance and DOB NOW: Build – Approved Permits and see if you can find him/her listed as the Permittee.

When you're looking for history on a single address, your best bet is to use our BIS website. You'll find a ton of information on the Property Profile for that address, including all of the violation history that we have online.

Discrepancy between BIS and Job Application Filings: BBL 2023650020, 885 Brook Avenue (aka 887 Brook Avenue) has 4 records in the dataset but no job application filings in BIS. The records in the dataset have 4 different job numbers. Why the discrepancy, and are the data in Job App Filings accurate?

BBL is tricky with our data because we focus on buildings, and you can have more than one building on a BBL. So you have to look at both 885 Brook Avenue and 887 Brook Avenue in BIS. (Both are BBL 2023650020)

That said, if you know that these two addresses are in fact the same building, then we need to correct our source data and combine them. If that's the case, please contact me with more details and I'll help you get that fixed.

I am part of a team at the *** that is collecting and analyzing child care data for a research project on child care supply in all 50 states. This is a follow-up to research that we published last year, entitled Mapping America's Child Care Deserts.

We have downloaded a list of licensed child care providers from your department's website, but I have a few questions before we start geocoding and mapping the data for our next child care deserts report, to be released late this fall.

1) Is the data, which we just recently downloaded, current information, to the best of your knowledge?
2) Is this a complete list of the licensed and/or registered child care providers in your state?
3) Is there any other data that is not included here, but which you are able to share with researchers? In particular, we are interested in understanding how much of the present child care market can serve infants and toddlers, but we are also interested in hours of operation, prices, staffing levels, and quality ratings.

We would greatly appreciate confirmation of the accuracy and completeness of this dataset, and welcome any questions of next steps for further engagement as we conduct our research. Our team is dedicated to properly representing the current state of the American child care market, and we could not undertake such a project without dedicated state agencies such as yours.

It does return plenty of data for 2013 thru 2016 dates, for example:

Is there an issue? Or is there a new endpoint URL for current, 2018 events?

I recently looked at the fire dispatch and fire response data files. For the same time period 1/1/2013 to 12/31/2017 the file from Starfire Dispatch system has 135,757 records and the Incidents responded has only 117,508 which is a large difference. Shouldn't they have exactly the same number of records ? Also is there any key available to link the two files ? The response file has a 7 digit IM_INCIDENT_KEY and the dispatch file has a 16 digit Starfire_Incident_ID.I don't see any commonality between the two keys. Thanks.

All incidents are not included in the response data for a number of reasons such as….
The data for the fire dispatch dataset is derived from the Starfire Computer Aided Dispatch system. The Incidents responded dataset is derived from the NYFIRS system. They inherently collect different types of data for different purposes. The NYFIRS system is used to create incident reports, detailing some of the actions taken by fire units, for example. Not every incident as dispatched by the Starfire system requires an incident report. For example, a call that results in a false alarm may be in the Starfire dataset, but not in the NYFIRS dataset. Additionally, NYFIRS and Starfire have different categories for classifying incidents and therefore some of the counts in question may not match. These systems do not have an identifier to tie them together. However, they incidents in either dataset can be linked via the borough, alarm box number and incident datetime.
