Inquiry
Is there a manner in which I can simply extract a polygon of interest from this dataset? It's large shape-file size and the inability to extract areas of interest makes it difficult to work with. It is a great layer and I would like to work with it on a regular basis, but the large file size makes it difficult to do so. I can extract sub-datasets from ArcMap but it would be great to be able to do it directly from the NYC Map web user interface. Also, is there a way engineers or people in a professional, technical field can reach you via telephone for more immediate feedback? The guidance on the website seems to be for more basic users as opposed to professionals who use GIS on a frequent basis. Is there a way to get more advanced help and feedback? Thank you in advance. This is a great resource that looks to be continually developing!

Unfortunately there are no ways to extract an exact polygon from a shape file using the Socrata API. The closest solution would be just to isolate the desired layer via the "More Views" tab, export and use an external GIS program to conduct further analysis. The open data team has confirmed that a successful export of said layer is possible.
