About the Program

The Washington Square Park Conservancy (WSPC) is a 501(c)3 not for profit organization working with the New York City Parks Department and neighborhood groups to ensure that Washington Square Park continues as a diverse and historical urban green space through engaging volunteers and raising funds to help keep the park clean, safe, and beautiful.

WSPC is accepting new volunteers into its Greeter-Tour Program, a program that interacts with Park users, helping them learn about the exciting horticulture, history, events, and culture that the Park has to offer. From our resident hawks to the coveted Arch, the Park has many stories to be told!

Volunteer Greeter-Guide Description

WSPC is seeking committed volunteers to donate their time and expertise for this free Park program. The WSPC Greeter-Tour Program provides an opportunity for interested volunteers to become an official Washington Square Park Docent.

This program runs during the warmer months. Docents will be expected to work a minimum of 2 shifts per month, and each shift will last 3 hours (totaling 6 hours per month). Shifts will be on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 2pm. Greeters will provide information about the Park and the Conservancy to visitors during their shift. Volunteers will work in a team of their fellow volunteers. Once docents have completed the greeter orientation program, they can continue their training to become a WSP tour guide.

Volunteers must attend and participate in the program’s orientation, as well as complete required reading on the history of the Park. Orientation sessions include lectures, workshops, and on-site tours. Orientation takes place on Saturday, April 6 and 13 (attendance required at one orientation session only). By the end of orientation, each docent will be prepared to answer all matter of questions from park visitors.

Content Id

Team PWC runners receive guaranteed entry to the 2019 TCS New York City Marathon and raise crucial funds to help vulnerable children overcome the chronic stress of growing up in poverty. Founded in 1908, Partnership with Children has worked for over a century to strengthen the emotional, social, and cognitive skills of vulnerable children in New York City to help them succeed in school, society, and life.

Partnership with Children works in schools in high-poverty communities in New York City, providing critical social-emotional learning programs and mental health services for the hardest-to-reach students, and engaging families in the school community. Our professional Masters-level social workers and licensed Mental Health Clinicians work with students, teachers, administrators and parents to implement a framework of sustainable practices that creates a circle of support around each student. By addressing the social and emotional challenges that undermine achievement, our services lead to increased attendance, improved academic outcomes, better student behavior, improved school climate, and more effective teaching.

We work as integrated service providers and leaders. We provide a consistent, nurturing adult presence and systems building in schools. In short, we make schools safer and better places to learn so that all students have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

As you run 26.2 miles across the 5 boroughs and throughout the communities we serve you will not only be crossing the finish line for yourself, but advocating for more than 10,000 children the agency serves each year through Individual Counseling; Small-Group Counseling; Family and Parent Engagement; and Classroom-Wide Support.

Help Organize a Feline Fundraiser!
Content Id

Place For Cats seeks volunteers with good organizational skills to help to organize a Feline Fundraiser of Vintage Fashion & Accessories. First, we need help to locate & obtain a Manhattan location — preferably donated — for fun, drinks, and sales.

Also, we need help to record inventory of many hundreds of items, create price tags, create a flyer advertising the event that can be posted on bulletin boards as well as attached as a PDF file to emails.

We seek self-starters who might come up with ideas of how to make sales of the hundreds of items that are donated for the benefit of our rescued kitty-cats in addition to a fundraiser; i.e. sales via online efforts or efforts in private venues such as clubhouses or women's groups.

QC Speech & Debate team is looking for Volunteer Advisors
Content Id

Queens College Speech Society is the speech and debate program at Queens College. Students compete in public speaking, drama, oral interpretation, and debate tournaments throughout the Northeast and across the nation.

The team is looking for new advisors to volunteer their efforts to coach and mentor students in preparation for the upcoming 2019-2020 competition season. More specifically, the QCSS is looking for "coaches" that could assist the team in providing constructive feedback to students within weekly practice sessions throughout the season. Team members will have an opportunity to compete in any of the 11 speech catagories sanctioned by the National Forensic Association (NFA), which are: Informative, Impromptu Speech, Persuasion, After-Dinner Speaking, Communication Analysis, Prose, Poetry, Dramatic Interpretation, Duo, Program Oral Interpretation, and Extemporenous Speech. In addition to the 11 speech events, team members will also have an opportunity to debate in International Public Debate (IPDA Debate) and Parliamentary Debate.

Lastly, the team will not only be dedicated to competing within tournaments. Team members will seek ways to contribute to their academic community by hosting speech/debate tournaments at QC and assist as mentors within middle and high school debate after-school programs throughout Queens and Long Island.

This is a team not measured by the number of trophies or medals won; but rather, the team will be one that is measured by the number of hearts, minds, and lives that are touched. Volunteers will assist team members in reaching their full potential. I encourage you to visit our website at https://www.qcspeechsociety.com/ to find more about who we are and what we will be doing.

You do not need previous experience in public speaking, debate, or acting to volunteer. Just come and I will be happy to receive you. Please let me know if you are able to assist us.

Thanks.

Broad Views on Broadway Intern
Content Id

Broad Views on Broadway is looking for a motivated, and passionate person interested in interning with us. Who’s the perfect candidate for this position? Someone looking to get invaluable theatre administration or technical experience while being a part of a company dedicated to seeing a change in theatre representation and development.

Since Broad Views on Broadway was first created we have held to our mission of supporting emerging artists. Our goal as a company has always been to produce new works in New York and support their development. Though our mission has modified over the years and we have grown in our actions and make plans to continue to adapt, we still stand by those principals. Broad Views on Broadway is a Music and Theatre company that strives to provide an enriching, nurturing environment for artists. BVOB seeks to broaden people's views on typical Broadway productions by displaying original works in varying capacities as well as providing support to new development and artists. In the past, we’ve strived to produce 4 new works a year as well as subsidized classes and workshops.

In the upcoming 5 years BVOB plans to expand to producing 4 Shows, 4 staged readings, 4 reading labs, and Workshops for writers, actors, composers, and producers to further feed the industry with educated and developed art.

As our intern, you can be a crucial part of that. We have various roles to fill such as social media intern, production assistant intern, and a general intern with a variety of responsibilities, including monitoring the BVOB email and curating responses, assisting in preparation as well as the day of implementation for events, and assisting the Admin team with other tasks. This internship would have a 10 hour a week commitment, that could be increased to 15 hours a week commitment during our Summer Fresh Festival in August (for interested parties). You would be provided with a MetroCard stipend to cover transportation. For more information contact broadviewsonbroadway@gmail.com with Attn: BVOB Intern.

The All Stars Project of New York transforms the lives of youth and poor communities using the developmental power of performance, in partnership with caring adults. Its six developmental programs rely heavily on community organizing!

Community organizing happens a few different ways. Phone shifts reach specific students and volunteers. Community outreach gets feet on the ground to reach different parts of New York City. You’ll find yourself signing up young people for the Talent Show, discussing the Development School for Youth, and recruiting new students of all ages to UX. Bringing people together is also part of other All Stars activities, like running an off-off-Broadway theatre.
