Hazard Mitigation Plan - Mitigation Actions Database

New York City’s comprehensive effort to reduce or eliminate potential losses from the hazards described in the Hazard Specific section of the website. The map includes existing and completed mitigation actions that will minimize the effects of a hazard event on New York City’s population, economy, property, building stock, and infrastructure. It is the result of a coordinated effort by 46 New York City agencies and partners to develop and implement a broad range of inventive and effective ways to mitigate hazards.

NOTE: This table can be joined to the mapped projects using the HMP Index field.

Mitigation Actions Description
This pilot will develop resiliency signage that highlights the flood prevention and backup power assets installed across the following NYCHA sites - Riis II on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Beach 41st in Far Rockaway of Queens, and Coney Island Houses in Coney Island of Brooklyn. These signs will assist property staff and residents to identify the value of assets installed as a part of the Sandy Recovery Program.
Description Problem
The Resiliency Signage pilot will address emergency preparedness and resilience education across three NYCHA developments. The signage will look to promote staff safe-handling of resilience assets, inform residents of resilience installations, communicate the value of the improvements post-superstorm sandy, and build resilience thinking into everyday functions to instill a sense of community pride and curb vandalism of capital upgrades.
