Mitigation Actions Title
Precincts Cloudburst Mitigation
Mitigation Actions Description
In an effort to avoid flooding of the mechanical rooms and to alleviate flows on the overall City sewer system, NYPD is looking to retrofit three of the most severely impacted locations with onsite stormwater retention. The precincts include the 50th precinct at 3450 Kingsbridge Avenue in the Bronx, the 43rd precinct at 900 Fteley Avenue in the Bronx, and the 110th precinct at 9441 43rd Avenue in Queens.
Description Problem
Hurricane Ida caused localized flooding in the New York City Metro area in September 2021. The antiquated storm water systems of the City and the NYPD facilities were not designed to handle the heavy rainfall, which overwhelmed the sewer system and resulted in several feet of water in the lower level of several NYPD facilities. The cleanup was extensive and millions of dollars in mechanical equipment was damaged.
